ABSTRACT

Epithelioid hemangioma (EH) is an uncommon benign vascular lesion, also known as angioblastic lymphoid (or angiolymphoid) hyperplasia with eosinophilia, characterized by an unclear etiopathogenesis. It usually affects young to middle-aged adults and develops in the head and neck region, as painless cutaneous or subcutaneous reddish papules or nodules. Large vessels involvement is extremely rare, and to date only two cases affecting the brachial artery have been cited in literature. In this report we present a further case of EH of the brachial artery and review the pertinent literature.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Rectovaginal fistulas (RVFs) have multiple causes, size and location on which the surgical treatment depends. DESCRIPTION: The Authors consider different approaches to RVFs and describe a clinical case of recurrent high RVF. CONCLUSIONS: Most RVFs can be successfully repaired, although many interventions may be necessary. A colostomy with delayed repair may improve RVFs outcome. Moreover, several authors indicate Mucosal Advancement Flap and Babcock-Bacon technique as the treatments of choice respectively for low and high RVFs (complex and recurrent) and emphasize the placement of endoscopic prothesis in cases of difficult healing of the anastomosis.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Gallstone ileus is a rare cause of gastrointestinal obstruction, more frequent in elderly patients, whose treatment is essentially surgical, although some para-surgical and mini-invasive possibilities exist, allowing the solution of such obstructive condition in a completely non-invasive way. DESCRIPTION: In our study, after reporting two cases of biliary ileus managed by our surgical division, we will analyze the most suitable diagnostic procedures and the therapeutic approaches to this pathology. CONCLUSIONS: Gallstone ileus is a quite rare pathology in population, but affects more frequently elderly people; The treatment of this disease is mainly surgical.
