ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

Reflex sympathetic dystrophy syndrome is a peculiar rheumatological pathology whose diagnosis at times is evident, but other times it is complex. This difficulty compels us to have a good knowledge of the syndrome and to take it into account when faced with any rheumatological differential diagnostic. In this work we revise the major aspects of diagnostic.

ABSTRACT

ABSTRACT

The elbow is a location where algodystrophy is rarely established. When algodystrophy affects the elbow it usually does it in a secondary way, being part of a shoulder-hand syndrome. However the original affectation of the elbow, outside this context, is even more exceptional. In this work we present two cases of algodystrophy originally found in the elbow and we revise the characteristics of this location.

ABSTRACT

Diabetic cheiroarthropathy is a periarticular pathology that concerns diabetes mellitus, especially the insulin-dependent and long-term variety. Normally it is asymptomatic and consists of a pain-free limited extension of the metacarpophalangeal and/or proximal interphalangeal joints, with a spontaneous posture of slight flexion in the fingers. It can be accompanied by other rheumatological pathologies usually associated with diabetes.

ABSTRACT

We applied to a group of 44 patients, clinically affected by algodystrophy, a protocol of vascular explorations (Doppler, capillaroscopy, basal plethysmography, reactive hyperemia test and measurements of the oxygen transcutaneous pressure) in order to analyze their contribution to the detection of such disease, concluding that Doppler, capillaroscopy and plethysmography do not contribute with quantifiable results. On the contrary, the reactive hyperemia test and the measurements of the oxygen transcutaneous pressure showed up as explorations able to quantify the degree of microcirculatory disorder in the algodystrophy and to allow its evolutive follow-up.

ABSTRACT

Biphotonic absorptiometry has begun to demonstrate its usefulness in the field of osteoporosis. In algodystrophy, the radiology and the degree of isotopic fixation suggest a bone disorder, although both techniques are unable to objectively quantify it. Biphotonic absorption is an scanning technique which allows the quantification of bone demineralization in the segment affected by algodystrophy and its evolutive follow-up.
