ABSTRACT

The study included 60 men (mean age 33.2 +/- 1.6 years) with grade I arterial hypertension and 25 age-matched practically healthy men. They were subjected to veloergometer test with an increasing load till submaximum rise in the heart rate, condition limiting further exercise, excessive AP elevation, dyspnea, or fatigue. Increased oxygen consumption by myocardium in excess of metabolic requirements of the organism was documented at rest and under standard load. Criteria (increase of double product, pressure load index, cardiac load index) for the work done by myocardium to overcome peripheral resistance and for functional remodeling have been developed.

ABSTRACT

Quality of life (QL), types of attitude towards the disease (TATD), and treatment compliance (TC) were studied in 36 men aged 18 to 59 years, who had had the diagnosis of arterial hypertension (AH) for 1 to 3 years. Type of Attitude Towards Disease Questionnaire (Bekhterev Research Institute, 1987) and QL of AH Patients Questionnaire (Ivanovo State Medical Academy, 2000) were used. The study revealed that QL of the patients and their TC depended on TATD. At AH debut in men, anosognostic, ergopathic, and anosognostico-ergopathic TATD prevail; QL of these men is equal to that of practically healthy persons; the absence of TC is associated with these TATD. Harmonic TATD, which took place in 8% of the patients, facilitated TC. In 20% patients, TATD included hypochondrial, anxious, and sensitive components, which prevented TC and formed the lowest QL.

ABSTRACT

Thirty-five men with neurocirculatory dystonia (NCD) aged 24.4 +/- 1.8 and 22 practically healthy men of comparable age were examined. All the patients underwent standard load veloergometric test by step-up technique until submaximum heart rate was achieved. The study found significant increase in myocardial oxygen consumption both at rest and during physical exercise. The author offers quantitative criteria that allow for objective evaluation of disturbances in the regulatory systems that provide response to measured physical load and thus contribute to clinical diagnostics of NCD.

ABSTRACT

Thirty-seven males aged 18 to 55 years (mean age 29.6 +/- 1.8 years) who had a 1-3-year history of arterial hypertension (AH) were examined. All the patients were found to have grade 1 hypertension. Life quality (LQ) was studied using the questionnaire developed by the Ivanovo State Medical Academy in 2000. A significant decrease in LQ was found at the peak of AH in the patients as compared with healthy individuals; however, the specific parameters of the health status and reductions in their functional capacities differed slightly. It is concluded that it is necessary to apply a standardized approach to assessing the patients' complaints and medical history data.

ABSTRACT

AIM: To study efficacy of sanatorium treatment of aged patients with gastroenterological and locomotor diseases in the heriatric center. MATERIAL AND METHODS: 100 patients were investigated for effects of sanatorium treatment on quality of life. RESULTS: Clinical symptoms depended on the patients' age. Patients under 70 years of age had leading symptoms from gastrointestinal organs and locomotor system. These patients were most responsive to rehabilitation measures. In 70-year-olds and older patients cardiovascular and cerebral pathologies are of special importance limiting usage of physiotherapy and necessitating wider application of medicines: hypotensive, antianginal, circulation correcting, etc. The sanatorium stage of rehabilitation creates a positive emotional background in these patients. CONCLUSION: Sanatorium treatment resulted in improvement of life quality in gerontological patients.
