The Effect of Spiritual Well-being on the Self-efficacy Level of Individuals with an Intestinal Stoma.

OBJECTIVE: To investigate the spiritual well-being and self-efficacy levels in patients with intestinal stomas. METHODS: For this descriptive study, researchers conducted face-to-face interviews with 51 participants. Data were analyzed using a descriptive characteristics questionnaire, the Stoma Self-efficacy Scale (SSES), and the Three-Factor Spiritual Well-being Scale (TF-SWBS). RESULTS: Participants had a mean SSES score of 56.98 ± 21.24. Education level and stoma type affected the SSES scores. Income level affected TF-SWBS scores. There was no correlation between SSES and TF-SWBS total scores. There was a positive correlation between TF-SWBS scores and stoma duration and age. CONCLUSIONS: Nurses should provide trainings to develop self-efficacy among and enhance psychosocial and spiritual support for patients with a stoma.

Death Anxiety, Religious Attitude and Associated Factors in Dialysis Patients, A Descriptive Study; Turkey Sample.

Aim: The aim of this study is to determine the relationship between death anxiety and religious attitudes of patients receiving hemodialysis and peritoneal dialysis treatment, and to determine the differences between the two treatment groups according to the affecting factors. Method: It is a descriptive research. The study was completed with 105 individuals receiving dialysis treatment. The study universe is dialysis patients who continue their treatment in the same hospital. The sample size and power was determined by utilizing the results of another study. Descriptive characteristics form, Religious Attitude Scale and Death Anxiety Scale were used to collect data. Results: The mean age, religious attitude scale score and death anxiety scale score of the participants is 57,01 ± 12,969, 3,10 ± 0.612, and 9,55 ± 3,533, respectively. Conclusion: The religious attitude of dialysis patients is moderate and they have death anxiety. Hemodialysis patients have more death anxiety. There is a weak correlation between religious attitude and death anxiety. Recommendations: It can be suggested that nurses who care for dialysis patients, should be aware of the role of religion in the lives of dialysis patients and its relationship with health outcomes, and it may be recommended to apply holistic care for these patients to express their feelings and their concerns about death.

A Descriptive Study of Spiritual Well-Being and Foot Care Practices Administered to Turkish Patients Diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes.

The aim of the study is the determination of factors affecting the moral well-being of individuals with type 2 diabetes, their foot care behaviors, and the relationship between their spiritual well-being and foot care behaviors. This is a descriptive and relationship-seeking study. The population of the study was comprised of patients with type 2 diabetes who continued their treatment in the same hospital. The sample group consisted of 157 people determined by power analysis (0.05 margin of error, 0.85 power, and 0.447 effect size). For data collection, the Participant Information Form, Spiritual Well-being Scale, and the Foot Care Behavior Scale were used. The mean age of the participants was 59.50 ± 4.858, the body cure index was 29.97 ± 4.233, the foot care awareness score was 51.04 ± 9.884, and the spiritual well-being score was 19.44 ± 7.423. The spiritual well-being subdimension scores were as follows: meaning: 5.17 ± 3.226, belief: 9.79 ± 4.277, and peace and tranquility: 4.48 ± 2.608. Foot care awareness and spiritual well-being scores of the patients were moderate. Individuals' awareness of foot care is affected by their willingness to use medication and to receive education about diabetes; while the income level affects their moral well-being. There is a weak and positive relationship between the two scale scores. It would be appropriate to address the patients spiritually and to provide care with an integrated understanding of care. The adoption of foot care by nurses will make nursing more visible and will be effective for the protection of public health.

Nursing Students' Views and Suggestions About Case-Based Learning Integrated Into the Nursing Process: A Qualitative Study.

AIM: This study aimed to evaluate students' views and suggestions about case-based learning. METHOD: The research was planned by using qualitative method of phenomenological type. Case-based learning was integrated into the nursing process and implemented in four sessions, and then, students' views and suggestions were collected. In the interview, a semi-structured interview form was used, in-depth interviews were made, and the data were evaluated by qualitative data analysis. Phenomelogical approach of Colazzi was used in the analyzes and Huberman method was applied. The COREQ was used to analyze and report the qualitative data. The sample consisted of second-year students in the nursing department of a public university in Anatolia in the academic year 2017-2018. Participants attended the case-based learning program. A focus group interview was conducted with 10 of the participants. RESULTS: Participants are 10 students with a mean age of 19.86 ± 0.78 years. A total of 65 opinions and suggestions were presented during the focus group meeting. These were grouped under two main and seven sub-themes. Participants had positive views on the program and gave practical suggestions. CONCLUSION: Case-based learning integrated into the nursing process is a practical nursing method that helps students learn and understand the nursing process better and approach patients from a holistic perspective.
