ABSTRACT

The paper provides pathogenetic evidence for multichannel electrostimulation used by the author's procedure in patients with infantile cerebral paralysis. It also presents the clinical and functional findings of its use in combination with balneopelotherapy, massage, therapeutical exercises, and orthopedic prophylaxis. The therapeutic efficiency was 82.4 and 84.2% for patients with spastic diplegia and in those with hemiparetic infantile cerebral paralysis, respectively.

ABSTRACT

Clinical electromyographic studies were made to evaluate the efficacy of transcerebral exposure to UHF electric field which has been used as an adjuvant to therapeutic exercise, massage, climate treatment in 33 patients with hyperkinetic infantile cerebral paralysis (ICP). The effect on the motor disorders reached 70.8%. Specific features of statokinetic function in hyperkinetic ICP children recorded electromyographically dictate combined use of various modalities (therapeutic exercises, preformed physical factors, games, reflex therapy, etc.) to improve therapeutic actions on vestibular apparatus.

ABSTRACT

The study involved 178 children aged 7-14 with mild or moderate-severity spastic diplegia and hemiparetic infantile cerebral paralysis (ICP) exposed to UHF electric field. The effect of this modality incorporation into ICP combined treatment was evaluated with regard to clinical manifestations, hemo- and cerebrospinal fluid dynamics, bioelectric activity of the brain, psychic functions, immunological reactivity, sympathetic-adrenal activity. There was a positive trend in the clinical and paraclinical parameters studied.

ABSTRACT

The author performed an EMG study of the biceps femoris muscle and their proximal and distal parts in 15 normals and 42 patients with diplegic forms of infantile cerebral palsy. In patients with infantile cerebral palsy there were significant coordinational disturbances in the bioelectric activity of the muscles of the thigh during walking and an orthostatic position. These changes had characteristic traits depending upon the influence of preserved primitive tonic reflexes.
