ABSTRACT

Calcium phosphate nanoparticles were doped with zinc ions to produce multifunctional nanomaterials for efficient agronomic fortification and protection of plants. The resulting round-shaped nanoparticles (nanoZn) were composed of 20.3 wt % Ca, 14.8 wt % P, and 13.4 wt % Zn and showed a pH-controlled solubility. NanoZn were stable in aqueous solutions at neutral pH but dissolved in citric acid at pH 4.5 (i.e., the pH inside tomato fruits), producing a pH-responsive delivery of the essential nutrients Ca, P, and Zn. In fact, the foliar application of nanoZn on tomato plants provided tomatoes with the highest Zn, Ca, and P contents (causing, respectively, a 65, 65, and 15% increase with respect to a conventional treatment with ZnSO4) and the highest yields. Additionally, nanoZn (100 ppm of Zn) inhibited in vitro the growth of Pseudomonas syringae (Ps), the main cause of bacterial speck, and significantly reduced Ps incidence and mortality in tomato seeds, previously inoculated with the pathogen. Therefore, nanoZn present dual agricultural applicability, enriching crops with nutrients with important metabolic functions in humans and simultaneously protecting the plants against important bacterial-based diseases, with considerable negative impact in crop production.

ABSTRACT

Objective: To analyze the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic on the mental health of adolescents. Method: Descriptive documentary. Results: 15 articles related to the research topic. Conclusion: By means of the deep analysis carried out, it can be concluded that, all people have been affected by the pandemic , however the population that suffered the most has been the adolescents, due to the fact that they have had to adapt to the mechanism established to stop the contagion of COVID-19, thus leaving aside the daily activities that they previously performed how to attend classes in person, interact with other people and attend public spaces or events ,as a result in the future of these young people can generate a series of emotional disorders , since adolescence is a fundamental and crucial stage for the development of social habits

ABSTRACT

This paper reports for the first time in Colombia, two myasis cases caused by Cochliomyia hominivorax in stray dogs. Clinical examination of both patients revealed fever and a large wound at the palpebral level on the right side, and multiple perforating wounds in the right posterior limb where larvae were found. The treatment applied was the manual removal of larvae in the dogs, and subsequent eye enucleation in one dog due to the total loss of the upper right eyelid and the severe mechanical damage that the cornea received. Treatment was reinforced with repellents applied around the wounds and antibiotics. This finding of Cochliomyia hominivorax in stray dogs in Colombia raises concerns about the potential of dogs serving as a reservoir for human infection in the region.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: Interrupted Aortic Arch (IAA) is an obstructive anomaly, with a rare frequency of isolated presentation in the general population, being different when it presents concomitance with other cardiac anomalies and / or genetic syndromes such as DiGeorge Syndrome and Down Syndrome. Case report: The case of a newborn with facies characteristic of Down Syndrome, diagnosed with Interrupted Aortic Arch type A, is presented through computed tomography angiography. Discussion: Three types of Interrupted Aortic Arch (IAA) have been described so far, in which a persistent arterial ductus that allows continuity between the pulmonary artery and the descending aorta has been identified as a common feature. There are no reports of diagnostic algorithm for the detection of this pathology, but it has been studied using 2D echocardiography, computed tomography angiography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI). Its definitive treatment is surgical. Conclusion: A case report of the interruption of the aortic arch is presented with a comprehensive review of the literature that correlates with radiological images, to cause an impact on the generation of knowledge of said pathology, which allows for a timely diagnosis, strengthens our medical behavior. and leads to better management of medical resources.
