ABSTRACT

Objective: To evaluate the clinical efficacy of endovascular treatment for non-thrombotic right iliac vein compression syndrome with intravascular ultrasound. Methods: The clinical data of 40 patients with non-thrombotic right iliac vein compression syndromereceiving intravascular ultrasound-assisted balloon dilatation combined with stent implantation from January 2012 to December 2018 were retrospectively analyzed. There were 32 males and 8 females, the average age of whom was 63 (46-81) years old. The patients were classified according to the CEAP (Clinical-Etiology- Anatomy-Pathophysiology) classification: 7 cases as C3, 18 as C4, 10 as C5 and 5 as C6. All patients underwent percutaneous right femoral vein puncture, intravascular ultrasound, and balloon dilatation combined with stentimplantation in the right iliac vein lesion location. Results: The success rate of clinical operations was 100%. There were no serious complications during the perioperative period. All patients were followed up for 4-58 months. During the follow-up period, the relief rate of limb edema was 88.6% (31/35), the pain relief rate was 86.7%(13/15), and the healing rate of ulcers was 100% (6/6). After the stent implantation, the endovascular area of the compression site was significantly enlarged (34.5mm(2)± 11.1mm(2)vs129.8 mm(2)±17.2 mm(2), P<0.001). The follow-up of color Doppler and/or anterograde angiography for deep veins of lower limb with digital subtraction angiography showed that the blood flow in the stentsweres mooth in all patients. Three cases were observed that the intimal hyperplasia led to mild in-stent restenosis, no obvious in stent restenosis (>50%). The abdominal X-ray plain film showed no obvious displacement and fracture of the stents. The venous clinical severity score (VCSS) was statistically significant (13.0±2.4 vs 6.2±2.0, P<0.001). The statistical results of short-form health surver SF-36 showed that the scores of life quality in all dimensions of the affected limb were significantly improved after operation (P=0.000). Conclusion: Intravascular ultrasound-assisted balloon dilatation combined with stent implantation is not only a safe and effective treatment for non-thrombotic right iliac vein compression syndrome, but also has a good mid-term patency rate.

ABSTRACT

Yolk ratio is an important production index in the salted duck egg industry. Yolk constituents are deposited during development of follicles. However, the molecular mechanism responsible for different yolk ratios in laying ducks remains elusive. In this study, Shaoxing ducks laying eggs with different yolk ratios were chosen for an analysis of liver and ovary transcriptome information. Twelve libraries were constructed and generated an average of 58.5 million clean reads per library, of which 69% of clean reads from liver and 65% of clean reads from ovary were mapped to a reference genome. Between cross-phenotype groups, a total of 250 and 230 differently expressed genes (DEGs) were identified in liver and ovary respectively, of which 101 and 50 DEGs respectively were characterized. Several DEGs were detected, among which HMGCS1, HMGCR, FDFT1, (DHCR7), (STARD4), CYP46A1 and LPIN3 are involved in cholesterol metabolism-related pathways; KIAA0319, STARD4, AP1S3, SH3GL2 and CAV2 are involved in vesicular transport in the liver; and ELOVL2 and PSD2 are involved in fatty acid elongation and endocytosis in the ovary. High yolk-ratio ducks had higher activity for cholesterol synthesis and molecular trafficking. The identification of candidate genes greatly advances the understanding of the genetic basis of the formation of different yolk ratios.

ABSTRACT

The fruit peach originated in China and has a history of domestication of more than 4000 years. Numerous local cultivars were selected during the long course of cultivation, and a great morphological diversity exists. To study the diversity and genetic background of local peach cultivars in China, a set of 158 accessions from different ecological regions, together with 27 modern varieties and 10 wild accessions, were evaluated using 49 simple sequence repeats (SSRs) covering the peach genome. Broad diversity was also observed in local cultivars at the SSR level. A total of 648 alleles were amplified with an average of 13.22 observed alleles per locus. The number of genotypes detected ranged from 9 (UDP96015) to 58 (BPPCT008) with an average of 27.00 genotypes per marker. Eight subpopulations divided by STRUCTURE basically coincided with the dendrogram of genetic relationships and could be explained by the traditional groups. The 8 subpopulations were juicy honey peach, southwestern peach I, wild peach, Buddha peach + southwestern peach II, northern peach, southern crisp peach, ornamental peach, and Prunus davidiana + P. kansuensis. Most modern varieties carried the genetic backgrounds of juicy honey peach and southwestern peach I, while others carried diverse genetic backgrounds, indicating that local cultivars were partly used in modern breeding programs. Based on the traditional evolution pathway, a modified pathway for the development of local peach cultivars in China was proposed using the genetic background of subpopulations that were identified by SSRs. Current status and prospects of utilization of Chinese local peach cultivars were also discussed according to the SSR information.

ABSTRACT

To enhance optical emission in laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy, both a pair of permanent magnets and an aluminum hemispherical cavity (diameter: 11.1 mm) were used simultaneously to magnetically and spatially confine plasmas produced by a KrF excimer laser in air from pure metal and alloyed samples. High enhancement factors of about 22 and 24 in the emission intensity of Co and Cr lines were acquired at a laser fluence of 6.2 J/cm2 using the combined confinement, while enhancement factors of only about 11 and 12 were obtained just with a cavity. The mechanism of enhanced optical emission by combined confinement, including shock wave in the presence of a magnetic field, is discussed. The Si plasmas, however, were not influenced by the presence of magnets as Si is hard to ablate and ionize and hence has less free electrons and positive ions. Images of the laser-induced Cr and Si plasmas show the difference between pure metallic and semiconductor materials in the presence of both a cavity and magnets.

ABSTRACT

An ultra-high-performance liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (UHPLC-MS/MS) method for simultaneous determination of 10 mycotoxins in grain was developed. The selected mycotoxins were: deoxynivalenol, 3-acetyldeoxynivalenol, 15-acetyldeoxynivalenol, nivalenol, fusarenon X, moniliformin, zearalenone, zearalanone, ochratoxin A and ochratoxin B. The samples were extracted with aqueous acetonitrile (84 : 16, v/v) and purified by reliable laboratory-made mixed cartridges. The analytes were separated on an Acquity UPLC HSS T3 column (100 × 2.1 mm, 1.8 µm) and eluted with a mobile phase of water containing 0.2% aqueous ammonia and acetonitrile/methanol (90 : 10, v/v). All mycotoxins were detected with a Waters Micromass Quattro Ultima Pt tandem quadrupole mass spectrometer operating in negative electrospray ionization using multiple reaction monitoring mode. Accurate determination was achieved by employing commercial ¹³C15-deoxynivalenol as internal standard, which compensated for target loss and eliminated matrix effects. The established method was further validated by determining the linearity (R² > 0.9990), average recovery (75.8-106.5%), sensitivity (limit of quantitation 0.09-8.48 µg kg⁻¹) and precision (relative standard deviation ≤ 6.9%). It was shown to be a suitable method for simultaneous determination of 10 mycotoxins in grain. Finally, a total of 69 corn samples randomly collected from eastern and northern China were analyzed. The results showed that deoxynivalenol was the most frequently detected contaminant, whilst 3-acetyldeoxynivalenol, 15-acetyldeoxynivalenol, nivalenol, zearalenone, zearalanone, fusarenon X and moniliformin also occurred frequently. Ochratoxin A and ochratoxin B were present only in trace amounts in a small number of samples.

ABSTRACT

Twenty elements in two samples of nasal-pharynx cancerous tissue (NPCT) have been measured with PIXE. The results show that the element concentrations of calcium and zinc are very high, up to several thousand micrograms/g. Compared with results from other types of cancer patients, trace element concentrations in NPCT seem to be in a special status.
