ABSTRACT

Introduction: Electronic sports, termed esports, is a growing athletic activity in which high levels of attention and cognitive performance are required. With its increasing popularity and competitiveness, interest in strategies to improve performance have emerged. Improving esports athlete performance, namely cognitive endurance, and resilience, may lie in nutritional or lifestyle factors. The Nutrition, Vision, and Cognition in Sport Studies (IONSport) investigated nutritional and behavioral factors that can influence cognition via 3-dimensional multiple objects tracking test (3DMOT) via Neurotracker X (NTx) software. The purpose of this study was to characterize the lifestyle of high level esports athletes with detailed nutrition, sleep, and physical activity assessments, and their association to gaming related cognitive performance. Methods: 103 male and 16 elite female esports athletes aged 16 to 35 years old completed surveys, food records, and cognitive testing sessions over 10 days. Participants were instructed to maintain their normal dietary and lifestyle habits. Results: There were positive significant associations between average NTx scores and the following nutrients: magnesium, phosphorous, potassium, sodium, zinc, selenium, thiamin, niacin, vitamins B6 and B12, folate, cholesterol, saturated, polyunsaturated, and monounsaturated fats, omega-6 and omega-3 fatty acids, and choline. Majority of participants did not meet recommended dietary allowances (RDAs) for these micronutrients nor the recommended intakes for dairy, fruit, and vegetables. There was a significant (p = 0.003) positive (r = 0.272) association between total vegetable intake and average NTx score. There was a significant negative association (p = 0.015) with our final sustain session, which measured cognitive resilience, and the Stanford Sleepiness Scale score. Repeated measures analysis was done with these groups over the 18 core NTx sessions. There were significant (p = 0.018) differences between the two groups with those who consumed the recommended amount of protein or more performing significantly better on NTx over the 18 sessions than those that did not consume enough protein. Those who consumed the recommended intakes for riboflavin, phosphorous, vitamin B12, and selenium performed significantly better over the 18 core NTx sessions than those that did not meet the recommended amounts. Discussion: The need for a nutrition intervention that is rich in protein, vitamins, and minerals is warranted in this population.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To compare the image quality between a deep learning-based image reconstruction algorithm (DLIR) and an adaptive statistical iterative reconstruction algorithm (ASiR-V) in noncontrast trauma head CT. METHODS: Head CT scans from 94 consecutive trauma patients were included. Images were reconstructed with ASiR-V 50% and the DLIR strengths: low (DLIR-L), medium (DLIR-M), and high (DLIR-H). The image quality was assessed quantitatively and qualitatively and compared between the different reconstruction algorithms. Inter-reader agreement was assessed by weighted kappa. RESULTS: DLIR-M and DLIR-H demonstrated lower image noise (p < 0.001 for all pairwise comparisons), higher SNR of up to 82.9% (p < 0.001), and higher CNR of up to 53.3% (p < 0.001) compared to ASiR-V. DLIR-H outperformed other DLIR strengths (p ranging from < 0.001 to 0.016). DLIR-M outperformed DLIR-L (p < 0.001) and ASiR-V (p < 0.001). The distribution of reader scores for DLIR-M and DLIR-H shifted towards higher scores compared to DLIR-L and ASiR-V. There was a tendency towards higher scores with increasing DLIR strengths. There were fewer non-diagnostic CT series for DLIR-M and DLIR-H compared to ASiR-V and DLIR-L. No images were graded as non-diagnostic for DLIR-H regarding intracranial hemorrhage. The inter-reader agreement was fair-good between the second most and the less experienced reader, poor-moderate between the most and the less experienced reader, and poor-fair between the most and the second most experienced reader. CONCLUSION: The image quality of trauma head CT series reconstructed with DLIR outperformed those reconstructed with ASiR-V. In particular, DLIR-M and DLIR-H demonstrated significantly improved image quality and fewer non-diagnostic images. The improvement in qualitative image quality was greater for the second most and the less experienced readers compared to the most experienced reader.

ABSTRACT

Summary: Identify the relationship between the couple's attitude regarding the choice of contraceptive methods in postpartum vaginal delivery patients of the Hospital San Juan de Lurigancho period November-December 2015. Materials and methods: Analytical observational cross-sectional study. Two instruments one addressed to the woman and one for your partner to a sample of 174 spouses (puerperal and couples) during visiting hours at the hospital service Hospital San Juan de Lurigancho during the months of November-December 2015 was used The survey was applied only to new mothers and couples who meet the criteria for inclusion and exclusion. The relationship between the attitude of the partner about contraception and the choice of contraceptive method for postpartum women of vaginal delivery was sought. An exploratory analysis of the variables of interest using measures of central tendency and dispersion (mean and standard deviation or median and interquartile range) for quantitative variables, frequencies and percentages for qualitative variables was performed, then a bivariate analysis using two-way tables finally it proceeded to the multivariate analysis using a logistic regression model. With a confidence interval of 95 per cent (p<0.05). Results: Knowledge of family planning participant's postpartum level is "Medium" 78.16 per cent. These are in a younger age group (20 to 24) represented by 44.25 per cent of the surveyed population. With a degree of predominantly secondary education (71.26 per cent). Most new mothers chose birth control just before discharge (78.74 per cent). The attitude of the couples is predominantly "indifferent" represented by a 63.22 per cent. No statistically significant association between attitudes found couples against the use of contraception and the use of them by women. (CI 95 per cent, X2: 16.45). Conclusions: There is no statistically significant relationship between the attitude of the couple and the choice of contraceptive...
