ABSTRACT

Based on Self-Determination Theory, the primary objective of this work was to compare the factor structure of the different versions proposed (SIMS-16, SIMS-15, SIMS-14 and SIMS-13), as well as to explore the possible sustainability of a new structure for the Situational Motivation Scale (SIMS) in the Spanish Physical Education context. The secondary objective was to provide evidences supporting measurement invariance, internal consistency and external validity for the best factor structure identified. A total of 644 Physical Education Post- Compulsory and Compulsory Secondary Education students (344 men y 300 women; Mage = 15.04, SDage = 1.58) participated. The confirmatory factor analyses did not support psychometrically the different versions (SIMS-16, SIMS-15, SIMS-14 y SIMS-13) found by the previous research for the SIMS. Nevertheless, the findings sustained psychometrically a 12-item 4-factor correlated model, which was invariant across gender and educational level. The correlational analysis supported the instrument’s discriminant validity and, in turn, underpinned the selfdetermination continuum. The internal consistency analysis reflected suitable values for each factor. The results of structural equation model supported the tenets of the hierarchical model of intrinsic/ extrinsic motivation. In conclusion, the use of a new factor structure for the Situational Motivation Scale (12-item 4-factor correlated model) was recommended in Physical Education Post-Compulsory and Compulsory Secondary students in the Spanish context

ABSTRACT

The objective of this research was to examine the influence of an intervention based on Sport Education Model (SEM), in comparison with Traditional Teaching Model (TTM), on motivational regulation in high school students in Physical Education class. A total of 44 high school students (22 men and 22 women, Mage = 16.32, SD = .57) participated. The design was a quasi-experimental study with pre- and post-test measures and intra- and inter-group analysis. The intervention consisted of 12 sessions for teaching of basketball, following the guidelines recommended by literature both for the SEM group and for the TTM group. The results have indicated that SEM significantly improved the level of intrinsic motivation and of identified regulation in relation to TTM. The findings have also showed that SE has significantly reduced the level of external regulation and of amotivation in the students regarding TTM. In conclusion, SEM is a teaching model of sport which encourage the development of the most selfdetermined regulations of motivation (intrinsic motivation and identified regulation) in teaching-learning process in school setting, which could arouse the interest of students for regular practice of sport in free time (AU)

ABSTRACT

Encapsulated papillary ductal carcinoma (EPC) of the breast is a rare form of cancer with defining histopathology of encapsulation. These lesions are typically indolent but may rarely have concomitant, synchronous invasive lesions. This report details a 56-year-old black female who presented with a palpable left breast mass. Adenosis with focal fibrous and ductal hyperplasia characteristics were found on core needle biopsy. Excisional biopsy showed EPC with invasive components. A simple mastectomy was performed and a second lesion was identified as invasive ductal carcinoma.EPC typically has good prognosis and a low incidence of invasion. The risk increases in the presence of a second, synchronous lesion as in our case. Management is typically performed with breast conserving methods; however, missing a second lesion is possible. This report provides an overview of the literature and discussion of the role of MRI in preoperative workup.

ABSTRACT

In Switzerland sarcoptic mange is frequent in free-ranging wild carnivores but until recent years no cases had been recorded in wild ungulates. Since 2010, cases have been observed in wild boar in the cantons of Solothurn, Tessin and Thurgau. Here, we report the detection of mange-like skin lesions in wild boars by photo-trapping and the post-mortem findings in 6 culled animals presenting different stages of the disease. Potential sources of infection include mangy red foxes, outdoor domestic pigs and wild boars from surrounding countries. Disease spread in the wild boar population may become relevant not only for wildlife but also for domestic pig health in the future if piggeries' biosecurity is insufficient to prevent interactions with wild boar.

ABSTRACT

An ongoing canine distemper epidemic was first detected in Switzerland in the spring of 2009. Compared to previous local canine distemper outbreaks, it was characterized by unusually high morbidity and mortality, rapid spread over the country, and susceptibility of several wild carnivore species. Here, the authors describe the associated pathologic changes and phylogenetic and biological features of a multiple highly virulent canine distemper virus (CDV) strain detected in and/or isolated from red foxes (Vulpes vulpes), Eurasian badgers (Meles meles), stone (Martes foina) and pine (Martes martes) martens, from a Eurasian lynx (Lynx lynx), and a domestic dog. The main lesions included interstitial to bronchointerstitial pneumonia and meningopolioencephalitis, whereas demyelination--the classic presentation of CDV infection--was observed in few cases only. In the brain lesions, viral inclusions were mainly in the nuclei of the neurons. Some significant differences in brain and lung lesions were observed between foxes and mustelids. Swiss CDV isolates shared together with a Hungarian CDV strain detected in 2004. In vitro analysis of the hemagglutinin protein from one of the Swiss CDV strains revealed functional and structural differences from that of the reference strain A75/17, with the Swiss strain showing increased surface expression and binding efficiency to the signaling lymphocyte activation molecule (SLAM). These features might be part of a novel molecular signature, which might have contributed to an increase in virus pathogenicity, partially explaining the high morbidity and mortality, the rapid spread, and the large host spectrum observed in this outbreak.
