ABSTRACT

PIP: The video No rubber, no way] provides facts on HIV/AIDS and prevention, and talks about problems faced by youths living on the street. It was produced by the Popular Image Creation Center (CECIP) in cooperation with the National Movement of Street Children and the Sao Martinho Foundation. The video is fast-paced and humorous with a young actor posing as a "streetkid reporter" who interviews adults on how they would help street youths as well as street youths themselves. Safer drug injection practices, safety precautions needed in donating blood, how to request HIV tests, and the dilemma of condoms being too large for some young boys are discussed. Animated sequences are used to convey technical data, while moves in a soccer match are compared to sexual intercourse. The video has been used by agencies working with street children, private and public schools, and adults. It is also shown during daily programs in public squares organized by CECIP's community television project in peripheral areas of Rio de Janeiro. CECIP is working on a booklet to accompany the video which will be available in bookstores and newsstands.^ieng

ABSTRACT

Congenital coronary fistula is a rare heart defect, which consists of a communication between a coronary artery and a cardiac chamber of coronary vessel. Most such fistulae drain into a right heart chamber or into the pulmonary artery. Congenital left coronary artery-left ventricle fistula is even more uncommon. In a search of the literature, we were able to find only 15 other cases of congenital left coronary artery-left ventricle fistula. We describe here the clinical picture of a patient with left circumflex coronary artery draining into the left ventricle, and the successful surgical repair of the lesion. As far as we know, such a case has never before been reported in detail.

ABSTRACT

An experiment has been performed to measure directly the effect of atmospheric turbulence on spherical wave propagation of light on a vertical path. The results permit determination of the magnitude of the effect at a variety of locations and under different conditions. Agreement is found with the functional form predicted by the inertial theory of turbulence. General agreement is found with scattering data obtained by a low-frequency radar and with predictions of some turbulence profile models. The results also demonstrate some reasons for poor agreement with time integrating sensors.
