ABSTRACT

AIMS: The aim of this study, it examine how visits to neonatal intensive care units were made during the COVID-19 process and how mothers were affected by this process. METHODS: In this phenomenological study, interviews were conducted with semi-structured questions and face-to-face interviews with the participants. While collecting the data, both observation and interview techniques were used. A content analysis technique was used to analyse the data. RESULTS: The findings of the study were gathered under two themes: 'mothers' recommendations about visits in neonatal intensive care units' and 'mothers' fear of transmitting COVID-19'. CONCLUSION: As a result, visitor restrictions implemented during the pandemic period hurt on newborns. During the pandemic period, visitor restrictions were imposed in neonatal intensive care units around the world. Unfortunately, in our study, it was determined that this restriction was made. This situation may have adversely affected the mother-infant attachment and the growth and development of the baby and may have led to irreversible problems. Therefore, newborn nurses should give more importance to mother-infant interaction and continue their treatment and care without separating infants from their mothers.

ABSTRACT

Aim: We aimed to evaluate the relationship between digital game addiction tendency and depressive symptoms in children (36-72 months). Method: We conducted this research in a virtual environment with the mothers of 747 children (36-72 months). A predictive evaluation was performed using a simple regression analysis between the mean scores of the Digital Game Addiction Tendency Scale (DGATS) and the Child Depressive Symptoms Assessment Scale (CDSAS). Results: A total of 53.9% of children reported that they play games for 3-24 h a day. The average duration of children playing digital games was 2.86 ± 1.86 h per day. The total mean score of the CDSAS was 142.48 ± 27.36. The total mean score the children received from DGATS was 46.34 ± 17.28. In the regression analysis, it was determined that there was a strong positive correlation between the (DGATS) total score average and the (CDSAS) total score average (R = 0.52, R2 = 0.27, p < 0.05). Accordingly, digital game addiction tendency explains 27% of children's depressive symptoms. Conclusions: When the standardized beta coefficient and t values are examined, it can be said that digital game addiction tendency is a significant predictor of children's depressive symptoms.

ABSTRACT

This study was conducted to determine death anxiety and religious coping in heart failure patients. It was determined that 64% of the patients were male, the mean death anxiety score was 7.78 ± 3.91, 38% had ≤6 points and 62% had ≥7 points. Positive religious coping score was 20.54 ± 6.58 and negative religious coping score was 6.86 ± 3.18. Patients with a diagnosis of heart failure ≥3 years had higher death anxiety levels. There was a weak positive correlation between death anxiety and positive and negative religious coping scores. Death anxiety and the number of days hospitalized were determined to predict positive religious coping in regression analysis. The model explained 7.6% of the total variance in positive religious coping. Heart failure patients were detected to have high death anxiety. Patients were observed to have high positive religious coping scores. As death anxiety increases, patients exhibit positive religious coping behavior.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to determine the difficulties experienced by disabled children and their mothers due to the necessity of being at home during the coronavirus 2019 (COVID-19) process. The research is a qualitatively prepared phenomenological-type descriptive study. "Content analysis" was used in the analysis of the interview questions. Semi-structured interview technique was used as the data collection method. It was determined that the disabled child lost the skills he learned during the COVID-19 process; his health was adversely affected; there were disruptions in the education process; behavioral problems began; and he experienced social isolation. As a result, it can be said that both children with disabilities and mothers who care for them try to cope with many difficulties during the COVID-19 process and they are left alone and do not receive support during this process.

ABSTRACT

AIM: This study was conducted to determine the paediatric forensic cases under the age of 18 from of the year of the outbreak of war. DESING AND METHODS: The population of the study included 16,970 people under the age of 18, who were accepted as forensic cases among 88,052 cases, who presented to the emergency department of Kilis State Hospital between January 2011 and November 2019. The application time of the patients, their nationality, age, gender, their types of application to the emergency department, the event causing the forensic case, and the follow-up and treatment methods in the emergency department were recorded on the standard data entry form. RESULTS: Among all the paediatric forensic cases, it was determined that 52.0% were Syrian, 70.8% were boys, 30.0% were in the age range of 11 and 15 years and 20.5% had an outpatient treatment. CONCLUSIONS: In this study, although juvenile forensic rates are consistent with the literature, the higher forensic cases of Syrian nationality was determined as a striking result. PRACTICE IMPLICATIONS: Today, considering extraordinary situations such as wars and armed conflicts, more refugees may benefit from Turkish healthcare services in the in the forthcoming periods and it is important for community health to conduct studies in this field.

ABSTRACT

Spiritual well-being is considered a significant factor in helping to manage chronic diseases and cope with the disease process. This descriptive-correlational study aimed to investigate the relationship between spiritual well-being, diabetes burden, self-management, and among 300 outpatients with type 2 diabetes in Turkey. A significant relationship was found between the diabetes burden and self-management levels and the spiritual well-being of patients with diabetes (p < 0.005). Multiple linear regression analyses found that a high diabetes burden (ß = -0.106) decreased well-being, and high self-management increased well-being (ß = 0.415). Additionally, the results revealed that marital status, household members, performing daily life activities alone, hospitalization due to complications, diabetes burden, self-management, glycemic control, and blood lipid parameters explained 29% of the total variance in the spiritual well-being level. Accordingly, the present study recommended that health professionals should consider spiritual well-being to support disease management with a holistic approach to diabetes patients.

ABSTRACT

This study aims to evaluate the validity and reliability of the Emotional Abuse Questionnaire (EAQ) in Turkish. This psychometric study was conducted between 01/02/2021 and 31/04/2021, with 341 adolescents aged 12-19. Data were analyzed with SPSS and LISREL programs. Language validity of EAQ was determined to be appropriate after translation-back translation and expert opinion. The sample adequacy calculated for the EAQ was evaluated as very good Kaiser Mayer Olkin (KMO = 0.94, X2 = 4104,42). In the Confirmatory Factor Analysis (CFA), of the EAQ revealed that 29 of the 30 items were suitable for Turkish society, they preserved their 6-factor structure, and the factor loads of the items ranged from 0.40 to 0.87. and the CFA fit index values were within acceptable limits/perfect fit limits. In this study, Cronbach's alpha reliability coefficient was found to be 0.94. The two half reliability levels of the scale were evaluated as 0.91. A strong and highly significant positive correlation was observed in the test-retest results (r = 0.92). Turkish adaptation of EAQ; It was concluded that it has sufficient internal reliability and validity to be able to evaluate emotional abuse and can be easily applied.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: This research demonstrates that nurses feel pain because the pandemic process has separated them from their family and children. AIM: To examine the family relationship situation of nurses in the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic. METHODS: The research adopted a descriptive qualitative design. Participants were selected by the snowball method. An individual in-depth interview technique was used while the participants were away. In-depth interviews were made with a total of 27 nurses. Nine of these nurses were excluded from the study due to communication problems and device problems during the interview. RESULTS: This research showed that nurses suffered from family relationship breakdown and insufficiency in intrafamilial coping. The nurses stayed away from their families due to overtime and fear of COVID-19. They cannot meet the needs of their children and spouses for whom they are responsible, and they cannot spare time for them. They were living a tiring life with great responsibility and faced with mental problems such as burnout syndrome and depression. This study was conducted in three cities with a high number of COVID-19 cases in Turkey. We investigated three themes: Breakdown in continuity of intrafamilial relationship, ineffectiveness in role performance, and ineffective individual coping. CONCLUSION: The nurses suffer from conditions such as change in parent-infant/child relation and insufficiency in intrafamilial process coping.

ABSTRACT

Psychological health problems such as depression, anxiety and feelings of distress are often seen in patients with acute coronary syndrome (ACS). Religious coping in dealing with psychological health problems is one of the methods commonly used by cardiac patients. This study was conducted to determine the depression levels and religious coping methods of individuals diagnosed with ACS and identify the relationship between their positive or negative religious coping methods and their depression levels. The descriptive and correlational study was conducted with 253 ACS patients. In the study, the depression levels of most patients were low, but 19.8% showed moderate-severe depressive symptoms. It was found that the patients adopted positive religious coping styles on a high level, but there was no significant relationship between positive religious coping and depression levels (p > 0.05). It is recommended that health professionals also closely monitor ACS patients for depressive symptoms after their diagnosis, encouraging patients to use positive religious coping styles to support their well-being and recovery against this life-threatening disease.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: This study examined what affects parents' thoughts about vaccinating their children. We explored whether parents' attitudes towards the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccine and their perception of control of COVID-19 were related to their thoughts about vaccinating their children. METHODS: The sample of this descriptive study consisted of parents (n = 274) with children between the ages of 0-12. To collect data on parents' thoughts and opinions participants completed the Attitudes Towards COVID-19 Vaccine Scale and the Perception of Control of COVID-19 Scale. RESULTS: Parents' thoughts about having their children vaccinated were related to a number of children, gender, education status, employment status, death of a relative due to COVID-19, and fear of taking their child to a hospital due to fear of COVID-19. There was a statistically significant relationship between the parents' thought of vaccinating their children against COVID-19 and the mean scores of the Attitudes Toward the COVID-19 Vaccine Scale and the Perception of Control of COVID-19 Scale. CONCLUSION: It was surprising that parents with a high education level and working parents had negative thoughts about getting their children vaccinated against COVID-19. In addition, parents' attitudes towards COVID-19 vaccine and their perceptions of COVID-19 control were related to parents' thoughts on getting their children vaccinated.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: In painful operations like invasive procedures, it is aimed to analyze the effect of making the new-born listen to white noise CD by using the NIPS pain scale. METHODS: This is a randomized control trial of research made on 60 new-borns, ranging from 0-28 day-old, 28 gestational weeks and over, and coming to the intensive care unit in Gaziantep Cengiz Gokcek Maternity and Children Hospital in Turkey. New-borns in the experimental group on invasive procedures were exposed to white noise CD. New-borns were recorded while they were listening to white noise during an invasive procedure. Then, the NIPS pain scale on the questionnaire form and efficiency of white noise have been evaluated by comparing the new-borns' duration of crying. RESULTS: New-borns' duration of crying has been found statistically significant in the Independent Samples T-test (p < .05) which was performed between two independent groups with a 95% confidence interval. Duration of crying in the group being exposed to white noise (18.20 sec) has been determined lower than that of the control group (44.96 sec). CONCLUSION: In the end, the use of white noise CD on new-born during the invasive procedure has been determined to be applicable.
