ABSTRACT

The splenic cysts are rare diseases and the diagnosis is now easier with modern imaging modalities. The authors report two cases of asymptomatic splenic cysts. The spontaneous involution in less than 3 years has been followed by CT Scan. This possible evolution which has never been described, the improvements of the splenic surgery and the risk of serious infectious complications after splenectomy, must modify the indications of the treatment. A US or CT follow up can be purposed for non symptomatic cyst and a partial splenectomy when these lesions are clinically symptomatic.

ABSTRACT

This retrospective study involved 37 subjects who were examined by means of intravenous digitalised angiography, vascular ultrasonography and spectral analysis of the Doppler signal. The last two examinations were found to give the most precise images and functional information. The concordances between angiography and ultrasonography on the one hand and spectral analysis on the other were 82 and 90 per cent. The authors have established a protocol in order to limit and systematize these examinations during screening for carotid atheroma: the risk factors are weighted; a score is obtained by summation; depending on the value of this score and the patient's age, the investigation procedure is pursued or not. The sequence always consists of ultrasonography followed by spectral analysis when plaque is detected and by angiography when the plaque is stenotic or ulcerated. In symptomatic patients, ultrasonography and digitalised angiography are performed routinely.

ABSTRACT

The authors report a case of a pelvic site of a Castleman pseudo-tumour, still called angio-follicular hyperplasia or lympho-vascular hamartoma. This disorder of unknown aetiology may be situated anywhere along the lymphatic chains (70% of cases in the mediastinum). It is often associated with immuno-haematological disorders. Suitable for surgical treatment, the course is always favourable.
