ABSTRACT

We report the case of an 84-year-old woman with histiocytic sarcoma arising in the terminal ileum. The lesion was identified on CT of the abdomen as a 10 cm segment of terminal ileum with mild circumferential wall thickening, isoattenuation, and diffuse homogeneous enhancement. The patient was treated with surgery and adjuvant chemotherapy. This case provides an example of when imaging may be useful for the detection of this rare malignancy and its complications.

ABSTRACT

We present a case of a 57-year-old African American man with systemic sarcoidosis, who initially presented with cervical spinal cord disease. Initial MRI showed an elongated intramedullary area of increased signal intensity on T2 and inversion recovery sequences within the cervical spinal cord with minimal contrast enhancement after gadolinium administration. Further radiologic evaluation led to a chest CT, which showed bilateral hilar lymphadenopathy. Thoracic lymph node biopsy revealed systemic sarcoidosis. Post treatment MRI showed improvement of the cervical spinal cord lesion, further supporting the diagnosis of systemic sarcoidosis.

ABSTRACT

We report the magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) findings of metronidazole-induced encephalopathy in a 58-year-old man who was treated with metronidazole for hepatic encephalopathy. MRI is likely to be helpful in confirming the diagnosis of metronidazole toxicity in clinically suspected cases.
