ABSTRACT

Magnesium batteries attract interest as alternative energy-storage devices because of elemental abundance and potential for high energy density. Development is limited by the absence of suitable cathodes, associated with poor diffusion kinetics resulting from strong interactions between Mg2+ and the host structure. V2PS10 is reported as a positive electrode material for rechargeable magnesium batteries. Cyclable capacity of 100 mAh g-1 is achieved with fast Mg2+ diffusion of 7.2 × ${\times }$ 10-11-4 × ${\times }$ 10-14 cm2 s-1. The fast insertion mechanism results from combined cationic redox on the V site and anionic redox on the (S2)2- site; enabled by reversible cleavage of S-S bonds, identified by X-ray photoelectron and X-ray absorption spectroscopy. Detailed structural characterisation with maximum entropy method analysis, supported by density functional theory and projected density of states analysis, reveals that the sulphur species involved in anion redox are not connected to the transition metal centres, spatially separating the two redox processes. This facilitates fast and reversible Mg insertion in which the nature of the redox process depends on the cation insertion site, creating a synergy between the occupancy of specific Mg sites and the location of the electrons transferred.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the relation between sexual function and depressive symptoms in puerperal women during the pandemic period. STUDY DESIGN: Prospective cohort with 125 women evaluated in the immediate postpartum period (before the pandemic - T1) in Hospital de Clínicas de Porto Alegre, 3 months (pandemic onset - T2) and 6 months (pandemic peak - T3) after birth by email and WhatsApp. The Female Sexual Function Index (FSFI) and the Edinburgh Postnatal Depression Scale (EPDS) were applied. RESULTS: Fifty puerperal women participated in the three periods of the study. The median age was 25 years. There was an inverse correlation between the FSFI and EPDS values at T2 (p < 0.001) and T3 (p < 0.001), demonstrating that the worsening sexual response was secondary to the higher prevalence of depressive symptoms in the puerperium in the COVID-19 pandemic. There was an increase in EPDS scores in the three periods: at T1, the EPDS scores were 5.0 (2.0-9.0), increasing to 7.0 (4.0-14.0) at T2 and 6.5 (3.0-13.0) at T3 (p = 0.004). There was no difference between the FSFI index at the three evaluated times. CONCLUSIONS: Puerperal women are a susceptible subgroup for sexual dysfunction and depressive symptoms, which are correlated to each other and worsen in periods of stress, therefore, it is mandatory to investigate depressive symptoms in puerperal women with sexual complaints, especially during the COVID-19 pandemic.

ABSTRACT

The electrochemical properties of P2-Na2/3Mn0.8Fe0.1Ti0.1O2 layered oxide, which is a promising cathode material for rechargeable Na-ion batteries (NIBs), are evaluated with an optimized in-house ionic liquid (IL)-based electrolyte, and its performance is compared with that using carbonate-based electrolyte. The IL-based system reveals better electrochemical performance at room temperature than the carbonate electrolyte-based one at 0.1C and 1C, especially in terms of cycling stability, with a 97% capacity retention after 100 deep cycles (0.1C). The electrode/electrolyte interface is thoroughly studied in both systems by means of X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy and scanning electron microscopy so as proof that the formed interface is crucial to optimizing the electrochemical performance of NIBs. The carbonate-based system shows a thin, inhomogeneous, and unstable interface layer, while the IL-based one exhibits an even thinner but homogeneous and more stable interface, which may result in safer and longer-lasting NIBs.

ABSTRACT

Ionic liquids (ILs) are considered as appealing alternative electrolytes for application in rechargeable batteries, including next-generation sodium-ion batteries, because of their safe and eco-friendly nature, resulting from their extremely low volatility. In this work, two groups of advanced pyrrolidinium-based IL electrolytes are concerned, made by mixing sodium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (NaFSI) or sodium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (NaTFSI) salts salts with N-methyl- N-propylpyrrolidinium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (Pyr13FSI), N-butyl- N-methylpyrrolidinium bis(fluorosulfonyl)imide (Pyr14FSI), and N-butyl- N-methylpyrrolidinium bis(trifluoromethanesulfonyl)imide (Pyr13FSI). The characterization of eight different electrolytes, including single anion electrolytes and binary anion mixtures, in terms of thermal properties, density, viscosity, and conductivity, as well as electrochemical stability window and cycling performance in room-temperature sodium cells, is reported here. Among all of the blends, those containing Pyr14FSI outperform the others in terms of cell performance enabling the layered P2-Na0.6Ni0.22Al0.11Mn0.66O2 cathode to deliver about 140 mAh g-1 for more than 200 cycles.

ABSTRACT

The implementation of aqueous electrode processing of cathode materials is a key for the development of greener Na-ion batteries. Herein, the development and optimization of the aqueous electrode processing for the ecofriendly Na0.44MnO2 (NMO) cathode material, employing carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) as binder, are reported for the first time. The characterization of such an electrode reveals that the performances are strongly affected by the employed electrolyte solution, especially, the sodium salt and the use of electrolyte's additives. In particular, the best results are obtained using the 1 M solution of NaPF6 in EC/DEC (ethylene carbonate/diethyl carbonate) 3:7 (v/v) + 2 wt % FEC (fluoroethylene carbonate). With this electrolyte, the outstanding capacity of 99.7 mA h g-1 is delivered by the CMC-NMO cathode after 800 cycles at a 1C charge/discharge rate. On the basis of this excellent long-term performance, a full sodium cell, composed of a CMC-based NMO cathode and hard carbon from biowaste (corn cob), has been assembled and tested. The cell delivers excellent performances in terms of specific capacity, capacity retention, and long-term cycling stability. After 75 cycles at a C/5 rate, the capacity of the NMO in the full-cell approaches 109 mA h g-1 with a Coulombic efficiency of 99.9%.

ABSTRACT

We report the first proof of concept for a non-aqueous semi-solid flow battery (SSFB) based on Na-ion chemistry using P2-type NaxNi0.22Co0.11Mn0.66O2 and NaTi2(PO4)3 as positive and negative electrodes, respectively. This concept opens the door for developing a new low-cost type of non-aqueous semi-solid flow batteries based on the rich chemistry of Na-ion intercalating compounds.

ABSTRACT

The Sexual violence causes suffering and produces physical and psychological consequences that can be listened in the clinical space. The Brazilian health department recommends that social assistance should be provided by specialized interdisciplinary approach; however, there is a lack of literature about psychological services and results performed, especially in the psychoanalytic approach. The clinical observation testifies that sexual violence can be a repetition in many cases, that the adult women who have suffered abuse during their childhood keep the that as a secret, and that the maintenance of such secrecy results in consequences, that often overload the public health services. We realized along the studies that the secret has been justified by the emotional connection between the abused and the abuser, however the clinic experience shows us that despite the presence of these characteristics, this silencing is not always related to the emotional relationship described above but is often related to the possibility of maintaining a subjective position which may not be revealed. Therefore, this "assumed" reason could make it impossible for these women to be treated. Based on the belief that clinically the secrecy has its function on the way we can conduct the treatment of each women from the theoretical point of view as well as the maintenance of a subjective position we present a theoretical research about sexual violence and the concept of secrecy in the Freud and Lacan literature, as well as review of the specialized scientific researches. We analyzed psychoanalytic concepts such as silence, the unsaid, the Oedipus complex and the psychic constitution, trauma, repetition and fantasy. We discussed the issues related to the links of sexual violence and secrecy with the psychoanalysis, emphasizing the "choice" for the secrecy as something that has the function of protecting the fantasy. We also considered the importance of multidisciplinary services supporting treatments of sexual violence victims in the Brazilian health system in order to reduce the overload on public institutions, as well as, the possibility of finding ways for psychologists to work with patients who have sexual violence history. At last, we discussed the possibilities of prevention, the treatment of psychological suffering and the dialogue among the health fields such as medical and social services, corroborating for new projects of interdisciplinary services and new researches

ABSTRACT

Post-adjusted M-plasty can be used in any surgical defect that can be closed by direct approximation of the borders to avoid the formation of apical protrusions. It is performedwithout prior planning; the tissue is removed only if the surgeon detects a protrusion during surgery. This method offers the advantage of sparing healthy tissue by adjusting the incisions to each patient?s skin?s tension lines, wrinkles and junctions of cosmetic units, in addition to the possible use of the ?M?s pedicle as a small advancement flap. This study describes the procedure step by step, highlighting the differences and advantages compared to traditional M-plasty.
