ABSTRACT

A correct differential diagnosis of pelvic tumors is sophisticated in gynecology. The present effort concerns with introducing of computertomography in our diagnostic facilities. The ultrasound method being of value in detection of early developing ovarian tumors and showing their size as well as the extent of tissue transformation is however unprecise in comparison with CT-method which allows to evaluate the anatomical relations and tissue differences. The latter one allows differentiation of cystic tumor from dermoid cyst as well as from solid tumor. Density measurement scrutinizes with more precision endometriosis, lipomatosis and tubo-ovarial abscesses. The CT-diagnosis has been proving useful especially in differentiation between ovarian and intestinal tumors.

ABSTRACT

The diagnosis of malignant tumors in the region of the female pelvis is very difficult to make so far. The authors present in this paper their first experiences in simultaneous use of ultrasound and computed tomography for detecting malignant uterine and ovarian tumors. Relationship between ultrasound and computed tomography is then evaluated on the basis of own experience. Indications for a CT examination in the pelvic region based on previous ultrasound examination are defined.

ABSTRACT

PIP: Contraception with Monogest was evaluated in a group of 20 young women, 9 of whom were younger than 19 years of age. Monogest's contraceptive action is based on its increasing the viscosity of cervical mucus, which causes a decrease in sperm activity and penetration. Also, the endometrium does not undergo a complete transformation. Monogest was 100% satisfactory in 10 women, only partially satisfactory in 3 women, due to changes in menstrual cycle length, and completely unsatisfactory in 7 women. Of these 7 women, 3 experienced amenorrhea which required drug therapy, and 4 women had metrorrhagia. It is concluded that while Monogest may be effective in older women, its use in younger women is limited.^ieng

ABSTRACT

PIP: A case of upper extremity venous thrombosis due to Stediril, a hormonal contraceptive is reported in a 44-year old woman. Stediril was prescribed for recurrent metrorrhagia after unsuccessful treatment with curettage, progestins, estrogens and other preparations. Bleeding was controlled with Stediril and the patient continued taking it for 30 months. At that time, the patient was admitted to the hospital with thoracic pain, dyspnea and an edematous bluish left arm. Venography detected thrombophlebitis and occlusion of the left subclavian, axillary, and cephalic veins. The authors note that after 15 years of studying complications of hormonal contraceptive use, they have never seen a fatal incident related to its use. Of 16 women who required thrombectomy for various reasons, none had ever used hormonal contraceptives.^ieng
