ABSTRACT

Background: In this study, we aimed to analyze the relevance between computed tomography characterization and pathology of pulmonary ground-glass nodules with different pathology types. Methods: Between January 2017 and December 2018, a total of 657 patients (191 males, 466 females; mean age: 60.9±8.1 years; range, 34 to 80 years) with pathologically diagnosed ground-glass nodules were retrospectively analyzed. The clinicopathological characteristics and computed tomography characterizations of patients with ground-glass nodules who received surgical resection were analyzed. The clinical data including age, sex, smoking status and medical history were recorded. Computed tomography characterizations included the location and size of the tumor, the size of the consolidation components, density uniformity, shape, margin, tumor-lung interface, internal signs and surrounding signs. Results: Based on the computed tomography imaging characteristics, a mean computed tomography value of ≥444.5 HU was more likely to indicate malignant lesions, while ≤444.5 HU indicated benign lesions. A malignant ground-glass nodules" maximum diameter of <6.78 mm, a diameter of the consolidation component of <3.88 mm, and a mean computed tomography value of <-536.5 HU were more likely to indicate atypical adenomatous hyperplasia and adenocarcinoma in situ. A maximum diameter of malignant ground-glass nodules of >11.52 mm, a diameter of the consolidation component of >6.20 mm, and a mean computed tomography value of ≥493.5 HU were more likely to indicate invasive adenocarcinomas. The focus between these parameters indicated minimally invasive adenocarcinomas. Conclusion: Ill-defined tumor-lung interface, irregular in shape, and smooth nodule margins suggest benign lesions while round or oval, clear tumor-lung interface, spiculation signs, lobulation signs, bubble signs, air bronchograms, pleural indentations, and vessel convergences are helpful in the diagnosis of malignant lesions. A clear tumor-lung interface, the spiculation signs, lobulation signs, and bubble signs indicate the invasion of the lesions.

ABSTRACT

Solanum lycopersicum phenylalanine ammonia-lyase 5 (SlPAL5) gene regulates the metabolism of phenolic compounds. The study of transcription factors that regulate the expression of SlPAL5 gene is of great significance to elucidate the regulatory mechanism underlying the biosynthesis of phenolic compounds in tomato fruit induced by UV-C irradiation. Here, yeast one-hybrid library of tomato fruit was constructed, and the yeast one-hybrid technology was used to screen the transcription factors that regulate the expression of SlPAL5, the key gene related to the synthesis of phenolic compounds in tomato fruit. As a result, a transcription factor, SlERF7, was obtained and sequenced, followed by the blast homology analysis. Further experiments confirmed that SlERF7 interacted with the promoter of SlPAL5 gene. In addition, UV-C irradiation significantly increased the expression level of SlERF7. These results indicate that SlERF7, which is regulated by UV-C irradiation, might be involved in regulating the transcription of SlPAL5, which provided foundations for further studying the regulation mechanism of the biosynthesis of phenolic compounds in tomato fruit induced by UV-C irradiation.

ABSTRACT

@#Objective In this study, glial cell-derived neurotrophic factor (GDNF) were used to induce neural stem cells (NSCs) derived from brain tissue of rat embryo to directional differentiation at a low oxygen environment.Thereby, exploring the affects of low oxygen on differentiation of NSCs into dopaminergic neurons. In this condition. We got quite a lot of dopaminergic cells, which will lay the foundation for the next step of cell transplantation. Methods NSCs were isolated and cultured from cortex of 14~16 days Wistar rat embryo. Then,at a series of different oxygen concentration with adding of GDNF,the TH positive cells differentiated from NSCs were detected by immunocytochemistry and immunofluorescence methods. Results Low oxygen obviously increased TH expression with significant differences compared to the normal oxygen control group(P<0.01).What’s more,at 3% low oxygen concentration, there was a highest differentiation rate for NSCs to TH positive neurons. Conclusion Low oxygen concentration promoted the differentiation from NSCs to TH positive neurons.3% oxygen concentration was the optimum low oxygen concentration. There was no dependence relationship between differentiation rate promoted by low oxygen concentration for NSCs to TH positive neurons and oxygen concentration gradient. There was a more significant increase in induction efficiency for combined use of low oxygen and GDNF on induction of differentiation of NSCs into TH positive neurons.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>This study aims to evaluate the optical data of the different sites of the cobalt-chrome (Co-Cr) alloy abutments covered by four different all-ceramic crowns and the color difference between the crowns and target tab using a digital dental spectrophotometer.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>Ten Co-Cr alloy abutments were made and tried in four different groups of all-ceramic crowns, namely, Procera aluminia, Procera zirconia, Lava zirconia (Lava-Zir), and IPS E.max glass-ceramic lithium disilicate-reinforced monolithic. The color data of the cervical, body, and incisal sites of the samples were recorded and analyzed by dental spectrophotometer. The CIE L*, a*, b* values were again measured after veneering. The color difference between the abutments covered by all-ceramic crowns and A2 dentine shade tab was evaluated.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The L* and b* values of the abutments can be increased by all of the four groups of all-ceramic copings, but a* values were decreased in most groups. A statistical difference was observed among four groups. After being veneered, the L* values of all the copings declined slightly, and the values of a*, b* increased significantly. When compared with A2 dentine shade tab, the ΔE of the crowns was below 4.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Four ceramic copings were demonstrated to promote the lightness and hue of the alloy abutments effecttively. Though the colorimetric baseline of these copings was uneven, veneer porcelain can efficiently decrease the color difference between the samples and thee target.</p>

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To clone and construct a eukaryotic expression vector of human bone morphogenetic protein (BMP) 2 and histidine in vitro and synthesize chitosan (CS)/pIRES2-EGFP-hBMP2-His nanoparticles. METHODS: pMD18T-hBMP2-His was digested by EcoR I and BamH I to obtain the hBMP2-His gene, which was inserted into pIRES2-EGFP to form pIRES2-EGFP-hBMP2-His. Afterward, CS, which exhibited five different molecular weights and deacetylation degrees, was complexed with pIRES2-EGFP-hBMP2-His to form CS/pIRES2-EGFP-hBMP2-His nanoparticles; in this procedure, a desolvent method was used at different N/P ratios (amino in CS to phospho in plasmid DNA). The gene-encapsulating ability of CS was evaluated by agarose gel electrophoresis and fluorescence spectrophotometry; size, distribution, and potential were analyzed using a ZetaPALS analyzer. The shape of the nanoparticles was observed under an atomic force microscope. RESULTS: 1) pIRES2-EGFP-hBMP2-His was constructed after the cloned hBMP2-His gene was confirmed by sequencing. 2) CS/pIRES2-EGFP-hBMP2-His nanoparticles were synthesized and pIRES2-EGFP-hBMP2-His was packaged by CS. 3) CS/pIRES2-EGFP-hBMP2-His nanoparticles were globular with an average size of 111.7 nm to 3,214.2 nm and an average zeta-potential of 4.93 mV to 16.79 mV. CONCLUSION: CS/pIRES2-EGFP-hBMP2-His nanospheres are successfully synthesized.

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>This study is conducted to explore new methods to perform surface biomodification of titanium implants and improve osteogenic efficiency.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>An RGD peptide and chitosan (CS) were combined by acylation reaction, forming RGD-CS. An RGD-CS/pDNA complex was subsequently prepared using a complex coacervation method and grafted on a pure titanium surface after physical and biochemical treatments were performed. The chemical structural characteristics of RGD-CS were evaluated using an infrared spectrometer and an elemental analyzer. The shape of this complex was then assessed by gel electrophoresis combined with atomic force microscopy. The grafting effect of this complex on the titanium surface was detected by EB staining.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>CS and RGD peptides were coupled by an amide bond. The RGD-CS/pDNA complex was completely composited at N/P > or = 2. Atomic force microscopy results showed that the morphology of this complex was mainly spherical. EB staining experiments showed that this complex was successfully grafted on the titanium plate.</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>RGD peptide-modified CS can be used as a titanium implant surface plasmid package carrier of pDNA.</p>

ABSTRACT

<p><b>OBJECTIVE</b>To compare the fracture surface of the machinable infiltrated ceramic (MIC) prepared in different conditions, and to relate its strength and toughness to the differences in their microstructures.</p><p><b>METHODS</b>The Al2O3 matrix were prepared, infiltrated by the machinable glass and crystallized. Based on sintering and infiltrating time and conditions, the specimens were divided into three groups: Perfect group, insufficiently infiltrated group, mal-sintered substrate group. Specimens were fabricated, three point flexural strength and elastic modulus were tested, and the microstructure of the MIC fracture surfaces was analyzed by means of scanning electron micrograph (SEM) observation.</p><p><b>RESULTS</b>The strength of the insufficiently infiltrated group and mal-sintered substrate group were lower than that of the perfect group, and faults in the microstructure of these two groups also proved this. The foreland of glass infiltrating in the Al2O3 and the interface of glass and complex demonstrated that the Al2O3 surface was smoother than the complex and there was a big crack in the glass but not in the complex which proved the crack resistibility of glass and Al2O3 were smaller than that of the complex (MIC).</p><p><b>CONCLUSION</b>Correct preparing process could make the glass infiltrate into properly sintered Al2O3 sufficiently which ensured best mechanical properties of the complex.</p>

ABSTRACT

Objective To investigate the best operative approach in the treatment of myasthenia gravis (MG) by comparing surgical effects of median sternotomy, trans-sternal surgery and video-assisted thoracoscope surgery (VATS). Methods One hundred and nine patients who received thymectomy for MG were divided into median sternotomy group,trans-sternal group and VATS group according to the way of operative incision. The clinical features, such as operative time, operative blood loss, postoperative drainage volume and drainage time, postoperative hospitalization time, postoperative pulmonary infection, incisional infection, MG crisis, postoperative chronic pain and upper limb's movement disorder were retrospectively analyzed to evaluate the effect of the surgery. Results The operative blood loss, postoperative drainage volume and drainage time, and incisional infection in VATS group [(77.5 ± 18.0) ml, ( 100.8 ± 11.8) ml,( 2.3 ± 0.5 ) d, 0 ] were superior to those in trans-sternal group[ (97.4 ± 14.3 ) ml, ( 175.8 ± 18.3 ) ml, ( 3.1 ±0.7 ) d, 6.2% ( 2/32 ) ] and median stemotomy group [ ( 130.1 ± 24.0) ml, ( 379.0 ± 45.6 ) ml, (4.2 ± 0.6) d,13.8% (9/65)] (P <0.05),and median sternotomy group was the worst. The incidence of postoperative pulmonary infection, MG crisis, upper limb's movement disorder and postoperative hospitalization time in VATS group were superior to those in trans-sternal group and median sternotomy group (P <0.05).Conclusions Three mini-incision surgical approaches are safe, feasible and effective. VATS is more advantageous and is worth popularizing in large and medium-sized hospitals. Trans-sternal surgery is the better choice for primary hospitals without advanced technology and equipments.

ABSTRACT

Electrocardiogram (ECG) signals are often contaminated by residual power-line interference. In order to filter the noise and not to distort signal too much, certain types of digital notch filters need a narrow frequency band, but such a band leads to ineffective filtering in the case of frequency deviation of the interference. In this paper, we propose a novel arithmetic. Firstly, sinusoidal parameters (frequency and phase) are estimated from the sinusoidal values in the linear segment of ECG. Secondly, a sinusoid function in linear segment is determined by the estimated sinusoidal parameters. Thirdly, the interference values in the nonlinear segment closest to the linear segment are calculated by the sinusoid function. Lastly, we subtract the corresponding interference value from the real value. The experiment results show that, in comparison with other arithmetic, the novel arithmetic can more effectively remove the power-line interference from ECG signal.

ABSTRACT

This study is designed to compare the distribution, function and cell cycle of rat osteoblast cultured on sandblasting and acid-alkali base titanium surface versus that cultured on carbonated hydroxyapatite titanium surface; the aim is to probe the influences of different surfaces on the function of osteoblasts. SD rat's osteoblasts were primary-cultured, passaged to the 4th generation and then cultured on the two kinds of surfaces. The cellular modality was observed using an inverted microscopy analyzing system. Proliferation was examined by MTT chromatometry and depicted by growth curve. Expression of alkaline phosphatase (ALP) was detected by Enzyme-Linked Immunosorbent Assay. The cell apoptosis and proliferation were examined by flow cytometry. The proliferation curve and index of the osteoblasts on the two kinds of surfaces were almost the same. However, on the carbonated hydroxyapatite group, the level of alkaline phosphatase expression of osteoblasts was higher and kept longer than the other one. In conclusion, the elements on the titanium surface influence the cell function, and the surface with rich PO4(3-) and Ga2+ can enhance the mineralization function of rat osteoblast.
