ABSTRACT

Isoxazole derivatives have been shown to possess antiparasitic activity. In the present study, 3-substituted 5-methylthio-isoxazoles were synthesized and tested for anthelmintic activity, along with some other isoxazoles which have been reported but not tested earlier. Nine compounds (2a, 2b, 2e, 2g, 2u, 3a, 3b, 3e and 3f) showed activity against both A. ceylanicum and N. dubius in vitro. Twelve compounds (2a, 2b, 2d, 2e, 2f, 2h, 2l, 2n, 2o, 2u, 3d and 3e) showed activity against N. dubius in vivo, a parasite of veterinary importance.

ABSTRACT

A detailed study was carried out on six biochemical parameters and four yield attributes using multiple regression analysis to investigate their relationship in the mulberry silkworm,Bombyx mori. The study generated new information on the importance of digestive amylase activity for the survival of the silkworm and revealed the inability of other enzymes to affect this relationship. Data also substantiate the observations made earlier on the genetic variability of amylase in the mulberry silkworm. Analyses extend the positive role of alkaline phosphatase and invertase in the expression of the other yield traits studied and indicate the definite possibility of using biochemical markers for silkworm breeding.

ABSTRACT

A simple micromotility recorder for monitoring the motility of small nematodes (adult) is described. Normal motility of Ancylostoma ceylanicum and Nematospiroides dubius was recorded. The time course to cause paralysis (paralysis time) was also observed in the presence of various anthelmintics, e.g., Levamisole, Pyrantel; and Ivermectin at graded concentrations. This is a simple in vitro model for screening of potential anthelmintic compounds.
