ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: To report a case of surgically induced necrotising sclerokeratitis (SINS) with imminent uveal prolapse following uncomplicated cataract surgery. METHODS: Case report. RESULTS: The causative agent was found to be a subtarsal abscess and the condition responded to drainage of the localised infection and a course of topical antibiotics. CONCLUSION: This report represents the first account of postoperative scleral necrosis arising from a subconjunctival abscess, and illustrates the importance of identifying all aetiopathogenic factors in cases of postsurgical necrotizing scleritis.

ABSTRACT

Forty three randomly selected patients of scrotal hydrocele were investigated for alterations in functions of the testes. FSH and LH levels were raised in 50 and 75 per cent of patients respectively whereas testosterone level was found subnormal in 14 of the 28 patients in whom hormone profile was studied. LH and FSH levels also showed some relation with duration and size of the hydrocele. Similarly, sperm concentration and their motility was found affected by the duration of the disease.

ABSTRACT

A report is made on an unusual case of corneal graft which was clear for well over a decade, and then manifested allograft rejection phenomenon concurrently in both eyes initiated by keratoplasty in the second eye. A bilateral and simultaneous corneal graft rejection in an individual does not seem to have been reported previously. Serial tear immunoglobulin (IgG) levels, which were normal in the initial postoperative period, demonstrated an elevation throughout the rejection phenomenon. The possible significance of this rise in the tear IgG levels is discussed.
