Determination of the efficiency of fibroblasts' colony-formation in patients with Hodgkin's disease, non-Hodgkin's malignant lymphomas and reactive lymphoid hyperplasia reveals that the colony-forming ability of fibroblasts does not depend on the nature of the pathological process, but depends on the morphofunctional status of the lymphoid tissue. It is found that single determination of fibroblasts colony-formation efficiency cannot be used as a prognostic feature for determination of the further course and outcome of the disease.

Surgical procedures such as mediastinoscopy (101 cases) and parasternal mediastinotomy (6 cases) were used for improvement of diagnosis of lesions in mediastinal organs. As a result of complex examination including histological methods, malignant lymphoma was diagnosed in 12 cases, Boeck's sarcoidosis--75, mediastinal form of lung cancer--8, tuberculosis of mediastinal lymph nodes--6 and other lesions of organs of the mediastinum--in 6 cases.

Based on a multi-factorial analysis with application of mathematical methods and an electronic computer-32, it was shown that differences in clinical manifestations of lymphogranulomatosis in untreated patients (360 observations) of two age groups--children and adults, concerned the incidence of the disease in males and females, a primary localization of the process and the frequency of separate symptoms, intoxication and histological types. On the contrary, no statistically reliable differences were noted in factors characterizing the malignancy of the process (staging of the disease, the frequency of general symptoms and signs of the biological activity.

The authors present an analysis of the results of polychemotherapy: MOPP, CCNU+NMU schedule in 36 patients with generalized lymphogranulomatosis of stage IIIB and IVA,B. An experience with the associated chemotherapy has evidenced the effectiveness of this kind of treatment and the possibility to gain the complete remission approximately in 80% of patients.

In cytological assay of the material, obtained from 144 patients with different lymph node lesions, the precise diagnosis was established in 119 observations (82.6%), the diagnosis remained unestablished or was erroneous in 25 cases (17.4%). It was found that of primary importance in establishing the differential cytological diagnosis of lymph node lesions are cytomorphological criteria, the role of cytochemical studies is only axilliary.

The investigation based on the analysis of 275 observations indicates that the recognition of lymphogranulomatosis in the general medical service institutions is not adequately organized. Due to their oncological ignorance 22.5% of patients addressed to a specialist 3 months and longer following the onset of the first symptoms. Prolonged and incomplete examination not infrequently resulted in diagnostic errors and delayed therapy. To the onset of the treatment 50% of patients have developed a generalized process (stage III-IV). Therefore, to improve the early diagnosis of lymphogranulomatosis it is essential to gain adequate enlightenment among the doctors of the general medical service and the population with ragard to the clinical manifestations of malignant lymphomas and also to institute the appropriate organization measures.

Studies on quantitative DNA content in lymphnode cells in patients with lymphogranulomatosis and reticulosis indicated that small prednisolon concentrations (0.1 mg/100 mg of cells) may be responsible for a reduced amount of DNA. The study of the quantitative content and turnover rate of total RNA has shown by the labeled uridine-H3 precursor incorporation a considerable decrease of RNA content and the reduce incorporation of the label in total RNA (approximately by 40% on an average).
