ABSTRACT

While maintaining information over a delay of time, working memory (WM) also allows individuals to prepare the mnemonic contents for prospective utilisation. However, it remains unclear whether the expectation of the time of WM test could modulate neural responses during the retention interval of WM and subsequent performance. Here, we investigated whether temporal expectations based on the variability of delay duration can modulate 9-13 Hz alpha oscillations during WM retention and whether the expectation-induced alpha activity was associated with WM performance. Participants performed a retro-cueing WM task with magnetoencephalography (MEG) (Experiment 1) and a standard WM task with electroencephalography (EEG) (Experiment 2). The expectation of the timing of the WM test was manipulated by the temporal structure of the tasks with small or large variability in the delay durations. We showed that alpha oscillations during retention interval and WM performance varied with duration variability in both of the MEG and EEG experiments. The novel finding was greater alpha-power attenuation over the left frontal and parietal regions during WM retention when the duration variability was small and the test onset was predictable, compared to when the duration variability was large and the test onset was less predictable. Importantly, we observed a positive relationship in variability difference between the response benefit and alpha-power attenuation in the left posterior parietal regions at both MEG-source and EEG-electrode levels. Finally, we confirmed the behavioural benefit when a condition with a fixed delay-duration was included in a behavioural experiment (Experiment 3). When conjoined, the delay duration enables individuals to anticipate when the relevant information would be put to work, and alpha oscillations track the anticipatory states during WM maintenance.

ABSTRACT

Goal-directed aiming relies on the ability to control attention and visuomotor movements while preparing for motor execution. Research in precision sports has investigated cortical oscillations for supporting expert performance. However, the results may be influenced by adaptive and strategic behaviors after intensive training. Whether and at what time points distinctive oscillations support goal-directed aiming without such training remains elusive. In this electroencephalographic (EEG) study, we investigated how the theta, alpha and beta oscillations change to support accurate aiming before novices took an action. We first conducted a model-based analysis to examine the correlation of cortical oscillations with accurate shooting on a trial-by-trial basis in a within-individual manner. The results showed that alpha and beta oscillations at different time points during the aiming period were better predictors of aiming accuracy. We then compared the oscillatory power for good versus poor performance. The results showed decreases in the alpha and beta power across distributed cortical areas and an increase in the frontal theta power successively before shot release. Moreover, greater intertrial phase coherence was observed for good performance than for poor performance in posterior alpha activity and anterior beta activity during the aiming period. In conclusion, these results advance our understanding of the temporal dynamics of theta, alpha and beta oscillations in orchestrating goal setting, motor preparation and focused attention to monitoring both external and internal states for accurate aiming. Among the three, alpha and beta oscillations are critical for predicting aiming performance and theta oscillations reflect effortful cognitive control.

ABSTRACT

To evaluate the gas content characteristics of nanopores developed in a normal pressure shale gas reservoir, the Py1 well in southeast Chongqing was selected as a case study. A series of experiments was performed to analyze the total organic carbon content, porosity and gas content using core material samples of the Longmaxi Shale from the Py1 well. The results show that the adsorbed gas and free gas content in the nanopores developed in the Py1 well in the normal pressure shale gas reservoir range from 0.46-2.24 m3/t and 0.27-0.83 m3/t, with average values of 1.38 m3/t and 0.50 m3/t, respectively. The adsorbed gas is dominant in the shale gas reservoir, accounting for 53.05-88.23% of the total gas with an average value of 71.43%. The Gas Research Institute (GRI) porosity and adsorbed gas content increase with increasing total organic carbon content. The adsorbed gas and free gas contents both increase with increasing porosity value, and the rate of increase in the adsorbed gas content with porosity is larger than that of free gas. Compared with the other five shale reservoirs in America, the Lower Silurian Longmaxi Shale in the Py1 well developed nanopores but without overpressure, which is not favorable for shale gas enrichment.

ABSTRACT

The Lower Silurian Longmaxi Shale in Southeast Chongqing of Sichuan Basin in China is considered to be a potential shale gas reservoir by many scholars in recent years. The special shale gas well, namely, Pengye-1 well, was selected as a case study to evaluate the characteristics of the shale gas reservoir. A series of experiments were performed to analyze the geochemical, mineralogical, and petrophysical features and gas content using samples of the Longmaxi Shale from Pengye-1 well. The results show that the organic and inorganic porosities of these samples are range of 0.08-2.73% and 0.06-2.65%, with the average of 1.10% and 1.76%, respectively. The inorganic pores primarily contribute to the porosity until the TOC content is more than 3%. Organic matter plays an important role in adsorbed gas content. The adsorbed gas is dominant in the Longmaxi Shale of Pengye-1 well, which ranges from 0.46 to 2.24 cm3/g, with an average of 1.38 cm3/g. The free gas content ranges from 0.45 to 0.84 cm3/g with an average of 0.68 cm3/g, and is 24.4-49.7 percent of total gas with an average of 37.5%. The bottom part of the Longmaxi Shale is the most favorable for shale gas exploring, which is higher of brittleness mineral content, porosity and gas content. Compare with the other five shales in America, the Lower Silurian Longmaxi Shale is derived from older sedimentary periods with significantly higher thermal maturity and has experienced several periods of intense tectonic, which are unfavorable for the shale gas enrichment.

ABSTRACT

Latent transforming growth factor-ß (TGF-ß)-binding protein 2 (LTBP2) is one of four proteins in the LTBP family of proteins (LTBP1-4) and was shown to play a vital role in tumorigenesis. However, little is known regarding the functional role of LTBP2 in thyroid carcinoma. Therefore, the current study aimed to evaluate the effect of LTBP2 expression on the proliferation, invasion, and tumorigenesis in thyroid carcinoma cells and to explore the molecular mechanism of LTBP2 in tumor progression. Our results showed that the expression of LTBP2 is upregulated in human thyroid carcinoma and cell lines. Knockdown of LTBP2 inhibits the proliferation, invasion, and EMT phenotype in thyroid carcinoma cells. Furthermore, knockdown of LTBP2 attenuates thyroid carcinoma growth in nude mice. Finally, knockdown of LTBP2 inhibits activation of the PI3K/Akt pathway in thyroid carcinoma cells. In summary, the present study has provided further evidence that knockdown of LTBP2 inhibits invasion and tumorigenesis in thyroid carcinoma cells. Our findings may help to further elucidate the molecular mechanisms underlying thyroid carcinoma progression and provide candidate targets for the prevention and treatment of thyroid carcinoma.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To explore the application of double pedicle blood supply pectoralis major myocutaneous flap in reconstruction of laryngeal and hypo pharyngeal defect after carcinoma resection. METHOD: All the patients received initial treatment. Pectoralis major myocutaneous flap was Applied in one-stage reconstruction in 22 cases of laryngocarcinoma and hypopharyngeal carcinoma with post-operation defect. During operation, pectoral branches of thoracoacromial vessels and branch of lateral thoracic vessels were reserved and prepared to be double pedicle vessel fascia bundle without muscle at the beginning part, rearched to defect area through subclavian tunnel. After operation, it is necessary to closely observe the subcutaneous swelling, quantity and color of the drain and others of neck surgery area to exclude the occurrence of surgical hematoma. When there is suspicion, do timely exploration. RESULT: Pectoralis major myocutaneous flaps of 22 patients were all survived. Pharyngeal fistula occurred in 2 cases and was cured by change of dressing. Twenty-one cases received radiotherapy after operation without secondary flap necrosis. After follow-up of 6 months to 24 months, one case of roll repairment of circumferential defect in cervical esophagus,found to have anastomotic stenosis 8 months after radiotherapy and then underwent gastrostomy treatment,the other 21 cases showed good recovery of swallowing function. Among 13 cases with laryngeal function reserved, only 1 case wearing tube and the extubation rate was 92.3% without communication barriers, no patient died in the short follow-up period. CONCLUSION: For double pedicle blood supply pectoralis major nyocutaneous flap, blood supply are fully guaranteed and does not require complicated equipment to observe and monitor the flap blood supply after operation, it is important to exclude factors that may lead to muscular flap necrosis to ensure the survival of pectoralis major myocutaneous flap.

ABSTRACT

The organopores play an important role in determining total volume of hydrocarbons in shale gas reservoir. The Lower Silurian Longmaxi Shale in southeast Chongqing was selected as a case to confirm the contribution of organopores (microscale and nanoscale pores within organic matters in shale) formed by hydrocarbon generation to total volume of hydrocarbons in shale gas reservoir. Using the material balance principle combined with chemical kinetics methods, an evaluation model of organoporosity for shale gas reservoirs was established. The results indicate that there are four important model parameters to consider when evaluating organoporosity in shale: the original organic carbon (w(TOC0)), the original hydrogen index (I H0), the transformation ratio of generated hydrocarbon (F(R o)), and the organopore correction coefficient (C). The organoporosity of the Lower Silurian Longmaxi Shale in the Py1 well is from 0.20 to 2.76%, and the average value is 1.25%. The organoporosity variation trends and the residual organic carbon of Longmaxi Shale are consistent in section. The residual organic carbon is indicative of the relative levels of organoporosity, while the samples are in the same shale reservoirs with similar buried depths.
