ABSTRACT

An acetal-linked dimeric phthalocyanine has been synthesised and immobilised on the surface of gold nanobipyramids. The resulting nanocomposite serves as a highly sensitive probe for intracellular pH through its acid-responsive fluorescence and surface-enhanced Raman scattering signals. The phthalocyanine units released in the acidic intracellular environment can also effectively eliminate the cancer cells upon light irradiation, rendering this simple fabricated nanosystem a bimodal and bifunctional theranostic agent.

ABSTRACT

Historical documents provide evidence for regional droughts preceding the political turmoil and fall of Beijing in 1644 CE, when more than 20 million people died in northern China during the late Ming famine period. However, the role climate and environmental changes may have played in this pivotal event in Chinese history remains unclear. Here, we provide tree-ring evidence of persistent megadroughts from 1576 to 1593 CE and from 1624 to 1643 CE in northern China, which coincided with exceptionally cold summers just before the fall of Beijing. Our analysis reveals that these regional hydroclimatic extremes are part of a series of megadroughts along the Pacific Rim, which not only impacted the ecology and society of monsoonal northern China, but likely also exacerbated external geopolitical and economic pressures. This finding is corroborated by last millennium reanalysis data and numerical climate model simulations revealing internally driven Pacific sea surface temperature variations and the predominance of decadal scale La Niña-like conditions to be responsible for precipitation decreases over northern China, as well as extensive monsoon regions in the Americas. These teleconnection patterns provide a mechanistic explanation for reoccurring drought spells during the late Ming Dynasty and the environmental framework fostering the fall of Beijing in 1644 CE, and the subsequent demise of the Ming Dynasty.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to assess the clinical efficacy of a 5 mg dosage of olanzapine in preventing chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting (CINV) associated with moderately emetogenic chemotherapy (MEC) among female patients diagnosed with gastrointestinal tract tumors. METHODS: Patients undergoing the oxaliplatin/irinotecan chemotherapy regimen were enrolled in this prospective controlled study. The olanzapine group received a 5 mg dosage of olanzapine along with palonosetron and dexamethasone, while the control group received a standard two-combination regimen consisting of dexamethasone and palonosetron. The primary endpoints included the total protection (TP) rates for the entire age group and the subgroup aged 60 years and above. Secondary endpoints encompassed the total protection rates during the acute and delayed phases within the two age brackets, as well as the total control (TC) rates and complete remission (CR) rates across all three phases (total, acute, and delayed). Additionally, the study involved the assessment of quality of life and the collection of adverse events associated with the interventions. RESULTS: 1) Regarding the primary endpoint, the total phase TP rates within both the entire age group and the age group exceeding 60 years demonstrated superiority in the olanzapine group when compared to the control group (66.7% vs 37.25%, P = 0.003; 68.8% vs 44.4%, P = 0.044). 2) In terms of secondary endpoints, the olanzapine group exhibited superior acute phase TP rates in both age brackets when compared to the control group (P < 0.05). The olanzapine group also demonstrated higher delayed-phase TP rates, TC rates across all three phases, and CR rates within the two age brackets, although the differences were not statistically significant (P > 0.05). Furthermore, the quality of life in the olanzapine group surpassed that of the control group for both age brackets (P < 0.05), characterized by enhanced appetite and a higher incidence of drowsiness in the patients treated with olanzapine when compared to those in the control group (P < 0.05). CONCLUSION: Olanzapine can enhance CINV induced by MEC regimen in female patients across all age groups, including the elderly, and therefore improve the quality of life for these patients. ABSTRACT

The absence of high-affinity antibodies has hindered the development of satisfactory immunoassays for dichlorvos (DDVP) and trichlorfon (TCP), two highly toxic organophosphorus pesticides. Herein, the de novo synthesis of a novel anti-DDVP hapten was introduced. Subsequently, a specific anti-DDVP monoclonal antibody (Mab) was produced with satisfying affinity to DDVP (IC50: 12.4 ng mL-1). This Mab was highly specific to DDVP, and TCP could readily convert into DDVP under mild alkaline conditions. Leveraging this insight, an indirect competitive ELISA was successfully developed for simultaneous detection of DDVP and TCP. The limit of detection in rice, cabbage and apple for DDVP /TCP was found to be 12.1/14.6 µg kg-1, 7.3/8.8 µg kg-1 and 6.9/8.3 µg kg-1, respectively. This study not only provides an effective strategy for producing a high-quality anti-DDVP Mab but also affords a reliable and cost-effective tool suitable for high-throughput detection of DDVP and TCP in food samples.

ABSTRACT

The dynamic behavior of a viscous droplet impacting a flexible mesh surface with a fixed end is studied by high-speed photography in this work. Our experimental results reveal that surface vibration occurs when the viscous droplet impacts the flexible mesh surface. Simultaneously, the droplet spreads on the upper surface and penetrates into the mesh surface, resulting in a decrease in the spreading diameter on the upper surface. On the lower surface, the droplet elongates and forms multiple ligaments. Notably, different dynamic behaviors are observed when the droplet impacts surfaces with varying Weber (We) numbers due to viscous dissipation and surface vibration. However, as the impact position deviates from the fixed end, the surface vibrational amplitude increases, leading to a decreased diffusion range of the droplet on the lower surface. In addition, the vibration amplitude significantly enhances with increase of the We number. The vibration induces stretching and eventual rupture of the cardinal ligament under specific conditions. The first breaking time of the cardinal ligament delays with the decrease of the We number. As the impact position moves away from the fixed end, this situation is enhanced. Especially, when the stretching direction of the ligament is inconsistent with the vibration direction of the surface, the vibration has a great influence on the stretching behavior of the cardinal ligament.

ABSTRACT

Objective: Studies have demonstrated that tonsillectomy may alter the risk of oropharyngeal cancer (OPC). We systematically reviewed the evidence and pooled data to examine such an association. Methods: PubMed, Embase, and Scopus were searched up to 25th April 2023. Studies reporting an association between tonsillectomy and oropharyngeal cancer risk at any site were included. Results: Five studies were eligible. All examined the risk of tonsillar and base of the tongue (BOT) cancer with prior history of tonsillectomy. On meta-analysis of the data, prior history of tonsillectomy was associated with a significantly decreased risk of tonsillar cancer. The second meta-analysis showed that history of tonsillectomy did not significantly alter the risk of BOT cancer. However, after exclusion of one study, the results showed an increased risk of BOT cancer with a history of tonsillectomy. Conclusions: The scarce data available in the literature suggests that tonsillectomy may reduce the risk of tonsillar cancer but does not alter the risk of BOT cancer. Further studies are needed to explore the association between tonsillectomy and the risk of OPC.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Drug-eluting bead transarterial chemoembolization (DEB-TACE) has shown efficacy for treating hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) with portal vein tumor thrombus (PVTT). However, whether DEB-TACE is superior to conventional TACE (cTACE) remains unclear. OBJECTIVE: This randomized controlled trial aimed to compare the efficacy and safety of DEB-TACE versus cTACE in treating HCC with PVTT. METHODS: The study was conducted in a tertiary care center in Southeast China. HCC patients with PVTT were randomized at a 1:1 ratio to the DEB-TACE or cTACE groups. The primary endpoint was progression-free survival (PFS), and the secondary endpoints were overall survival (OS) and incidence of adverse events (AEs). An independent review committee assessed the radiologic response according to the modified Response Evaluation Criteria in Solid Tumors (mRECIST). AEs were assessed by the Common Terminology Criteria for Adverse Events (CTCAE) version 4.0. Systemic therapies were not limited. RESULTS: Between September 2018, and July 2020, 163 patients were randomized to undergo DEB-TACE (n=82) or cTACE (n=81). Nine patients were excluded, and 154 patients were included in the final analysis; the median age was 55 years (range, 24-78 y), and 140 (90.9%) were male. The median PFS in the DEB-TACE group was 6.0 months (95% CI, 5.0 to 10.0) versus 4.0 months (95% CI, 3.0 to 5.0) in the cTACE group (hazard ratio, 0.63; 95% CI, 0.42 to 0.95; P=0.027). The DEB-TACE group showed a higher response rate (51[66.2%] vs. 36 [46.8%]; P=0.0015) and a longer median OS (12.0 months [95% CI, 9.0 to 16.0] vs. 8.0 months [95% CI, 7.0 to 11.0], P=0.039) than the cTACE group. Multivariate analysis showed that the treatment group, ALBI score, distant metastasis and additional TKIs were the four independent prognostic factors correlated with PFS. In addition, the treatment group, PVTT group and combined with surgery were independently correlated with OS. AEs were similar in the two groups, and postembolization syndrome was the most frequent AEs. CONCLUSION: DEB-TACE is superior to cTACE in treating HCC patients with PVTT due to the improved PFS and OS with an acceptable safety profile and may become a promising treatment strategy for HCC patients with PVTT. ABSTRACT

Liquid metal (LM) is widely used in flexible electronic devices due to its excellent metallic conductivity and ductility. However, the fabrication of LM flexible strain sensors with high sensitivity and linearity is still a huge challenge, since the resistance of LM does not change much with strain. Here, a highly sensitive and linear fully flexible strain sensor with a resistive sensing function is proposed. The sensor comprises an Fe-doped liquid metal (Fe-LM) electrode for enhanced performance. The design and manufacturing of flexible strain sensors are based on the technology of controlling surface wettability by femtosecond laser micro/nano-processing. A supermetalphobic microstructure is constructed on a polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) substrate to achieve the selection adhesion of Fe-LM on the PDMS substrate. The Fe-LM-based flexible strain sensor has high sensitivity and linearity, a gauge factor (GF) up to 1.18 in the strain range of 0-100%, excellent linearity with an R2 of 0.9978, a fast response time of 358 ms, and an excellent durability of more than 2400 load cycles. Additionally, the successful monitoring of human body signals demonstrates the potential of our developed flexible strain sensor in wearable monitoring applications.

ABSTRACT

Wood delignification and densification enable the production of high strength and/or transparent wood materials with exceptional properties. However, processing needs to be more sustainable and besides the chemical delignification treatments, energy intense hot-pressing calls for alternative approaches. Here, this study shows that additional softening of delignified wood via a mild swelling process using an ionic liquid-water mixture enables the densification of tube-line wood cells into layer-by-layer sheet structures without hot-pressing. The natural capillary force induces self-densification in a simple drying process resulting in a transparent wood film. The as-prepared films with ≈150 µm thickness possess an optical transmittance ≈70%, while maintaining optical haze >95%. Due to the densely packed sheet structure with a large interfacial area, the reassembled wood film is fivefold stronger and stiffer than the delignified wood in fiber direction. Owing to a low density, the specific tensile strength and elastic modulus are as high as 282 MPa cm3 g-1 and 31 GPa cm3 g-1. A facile and highly energy efficient wood nanotechnology approach are demonstrated toward more sustainable materials and processes by directly converting delignified wood into transparent wood omitting polymeric matrix infiltration or mechanical pressing.

ABSTRACT

Non-clear cell renal cell carcinomas (non-ccRCCs) encompass diverse malignant and benign tumors. Refinement of differential diagnosis biomarkers, markers for early prognosis of aggressive disease, and therapeutic targets to complement immunotherapy are current clinical needs. Multi-omics analyses of 48 non-ccRCCs compared with 103 ccRCCs reveal proteogenomic, phosphorylation, glycosylation, and metabolic aberrations in RCC subtypes. RCCs with high genome instability display overexpression of IGF2BP3 and PYCR1. Integration of single-cell and bulk transcriptome data predicts diverse cell-of-origin and clarifies RCC subtype-specific proteogenomic signatures. Expression of biomarkers MAPRE3, ADGRF5, and GPNMB differentiates renal oncocytoma from chromophobe RCC, and PIGR and SOSTDC1 distinguish papillary RCC from MTSCC. This study expands our knowledge of proteogenomic signatures, biomarkers, and potential therapeutic targets in non-ccRCC.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Fibrinogen, essential in primary hemostasis, platelet aggregation, and leukocyte-endothelial interactions, is also associated with a heightened risk of acute ischemic stroke (AIS). However, its influence on AIS patient outcomes is unclear. This study examines the correlation between fibrinogen levels and the risk of unfavorable outcomes three months post-AIS. METHODS: This is a secondary analysis of a prospective cohort study conducted in Korea. The sample consisted of 1851 AIS patients who received treatment at a Korean hospital between January 2010 and December 2016. Statistical models were established to understand the relationship between fibrinogen levels(mg/dL) and unfavorable outcomes(mRs ≥ 3), including logistic regression models, Generalized Additive Models (GAM), and smooth curve fitting (penalized splines). The log-likelihood ratio test has been utilized to evaluate the best fit. To ensure the robustness of the results, sensitivity analyses were conducted by reanalyzing the relationship after excluding participants with TG > 200 mg/dl and BMI > 25 kg/m2. Subgroup analyses were also performed to assess whether influencing factors modify the association between fibrinogen levels and unfavorable outcomes. RESULTS: After adjusting for multiple covariates including age, BMI, sex, LDL-c, TG, HGB, HDL-c, BUN, FPG, ALB, PLT, AF, hypertension, smoking, DM, mRs score at admission, the binary logistic regression model demonstrated revealed a significant positive association between fibrinogen levels and the risk of unfavorable outcomes in AIS patients (OR = 1.215, 95% CI: 1.032-1.429, p = 0.019). Sensitivity analyses supported these findings, with similar ORs observed in subsets of patients with TG < 200 mg/dL (OR = 1.221, 95% CI: 1.036-1.440) and BMI < 25 kg/m2 (OR = 1.259, 95% CI: 1.051-1.509). Additionally, the relationship between fibrinogen levels and outcomes was nonlinear, with a critical threshold of 2.74 g/L. Below the inflection point, the OR for unfavorable outcomes was 0.666 ((95% CI: 0.360, 1.233, p = 0.196), whereas above it, the OR increased to 1.374 (95% CI: 1.138, 1.659). CONCLUSIONS: This study has provided evidence of a positive and nonlinear correlation between fibrinogen levels and 3-month poor functional outcomes in patients with AIS. When fibrinogen levels exceeded 2.74 g/L, a significant and positive association was observed with the risk of poor outcomes. This study provides a further reference for optimizing rehabilitation exercises and facilitating clinical counseling in patients with acute ischemic stroke.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: During the bloom season, the colonial cyanobacterium Microcystis forms complex aggregates which include a diverse microbiome within an exopolymer matrix. Early research postulated a simple mutualism existing with bacteria benefitting from the rich source of fixed carbon and Microcystis receiving recycled nutrients. Researchers have since hypothesized that Microcystis aggregates represent a community of synergistic and interacting species, an interactome, each with unique metabolic capabilities that are critical to the growth, maintenance, and demise of Microcystis blooms. Research has also shown that aggregate-associated bacteria are taxonomically different from free-living bacteria in the surrounding water. Moreover, research has identified little overlap in functional potential between Microcystis and members of its microbiome, further supporting the interactome concept. However, we still lack verification of general interaction and know little about the taxa and metabolic pathways supporting nutrient and metabolite cycling within Microcystis aggregates. RESULTS: During a 7-month study of bacterial communities comparing free-living and aggregate-associated bacteria in Lake Taihu, China, we found that aerobic anoxygenic phototrophic (AAP) bacteria were significantly more abundant within Microcystis aggregates than in free-living samples, suggesting a possible functional role for AAP bacteria in overall aggregate community function. We then analyzed gene composition in 102 high-quality metagenome-assembled genomes (MAGs) of bloom-microbiome bacteria from 10 lakes spanning four continents, compared with 12 complete Microcystis genomes which revealed that microbiome bacteria and Microcystis possessed complementary biochemical pathways that could serve in C, N, S, and P cycling. Mapping published transcripts from Microcystis blooms onto a comprehensive AAP and non-AAP bacteria MAG database (226 MAGs) indicated that observed high levels of expression of genes involved in nutrient cycling pathways were in AAP bacteria. CONCLUSIONS: Our results provide strong corroboration of the hypothesized Microcystis interactome and the first evidence that AAP bacteria may play an important role in nutrient cycling within Microcystis aggregate microbiomes. ABSTRACT

Background Accurate characterization of suspicious small renal masses is crucial for optimized management. Deep learning (DL) algorithms may assist with this effort. Purpose To develop and validate a DL algorithm for identifying benign small renal masses at contrast-enhanced multiphase CT. Materials and Methods Surgically resected renal masses measuring 3 cm or less in diameter at contrast-enhanced CT were included. The DL algorithm was developed by using retrospective data from one hospital between 2009 and 2021, with patients randomly allocated in a training and internal test set ratio of 8:2. Between 2013 and 2021, external testing was performed on data from five independent hospitals. A prospective test set was obtained between 2021 and 2022 from one hospital. Algorithm performance was evaluated by using the area under the receiver operating characteristic curve (AUC) and compared with the results of seven clinicians using the DeLong test. Results A total of 1703 patients (mean age, 56 years ± 12 [SD]; 619 female) with a single renal mass per patient were evaluated. The retrospective data set included 1063 lesions (874 in training set, 189 internal test set); the multicenter external test set included 537 lesions (12.3%, 66 benign) with 89 subcentimeter (≤1 cm) lesions (16.6%); and the prospective test set included 103 lesions (13.6%, 14 benign) with 20 (19.4%) subcentimeter lesions. The DL algorithm performance was comparable with that of urological radiologists: for the external test set, AUC was 0.80 (95% CI: 0.75, 0.85) versus 0.84 (95% CI: 0.78, 0.88) (P = .61); for the prospective test set, AUC was 0.87 (95% CI: 0.79, 0.93) versus 0.92 (95% CI: 0.86, 0.96) (P = .70). For subcentimeter lesions in the external test set, the algorithm and urological radiologists had similar AUC of 0.74 (95% CI: 0.63, 0.83) and 0.81 (95% CI: 0.68, 0.92) (P = .78), respectively. Conclusion The multiphase CT-based DL algorithm showed comparable performance with that of radiologists for identifying benign small renal masses, including lesions of 1 cm or less. ABSTRACT

Circular RNAs (circRNAs) have been discovered to serve as vital regulators in atherosclerosis (AS). However, the role and mechanism of circ_0002331 in AS process are still unclear. Human umbilical vein endothelial cells (HUVECs) were treated with ox-LDL to establish an in vitro model for AS. The expression levels of circ_0002331, Cyclin D2 (CCND2) and ELAVL1 were analyzed by quantitative real-time PCR. Cell proliferation, apoptosis, migration, invasion and angiogenesis were assessed by EdU assay, flow cytometry, transwell assay and tube formation assay. The protein levels of CCND2, ELAVL1, and autophagy-related markers were detected using western blot analysis. IL-8 level was analyzed by ELISA. The relationship between ELAVL1 and circ_0002331 or CCND2 was analyzed by RIP assay and RNA pull-down assay. Moreover, FISH assay was used to analyze the co-localization of ELAVL1 and CCND2 in HUVECs. Our data showed that circ_0002331 was obviously downregulated in AS patients and ox-LDL-induced HUVECs. Overexpression of circ_0002331 could promote proliferation, migration, invasion and angiogenesis, while inhibit apoptosis, autophagy and inflammation in ox-LDL-induced HUVECs. Furthermore, CCND2 was positively regulated by circ_0002331, and circ_0002331 could bind with ELAVL1 to promote CCND2 mRNA stability. Besides, CCND2 overexpression suppressed ox-LDL-induced HUVECs dysfunction, and its knockdown also reversed the regulation of circ_0002331 on ox-LDL-induced HUVECs dysfunction. In conclusion, circ_0002331 might be a potential target for AS treatment, which could improve ox-LDL-induced dysfunction of HUVECs via regulating CCND2 by binding with ELAVL1.

ABSTRACT

KEY MESSAGE: The soybean gene GmSABP2-1 encodes methyl salicylate esterase and its overexpression led to significant reduction in development of pathogenic soybean cyst nematode. Soybean cyst nematode (SCN, Heterodera glycines) is one of the most devastating pests of soybean (Glycine max L. Merr.). In searching for SCN-defense genes, a soybean gene of the methylesterase (MES) family was found to be upregulated in an SCN-resistant soybean line and downregulated in an SCN-susceptible line upon SCN infection. This gene was designated as GmSABP2-1. Here, we report on biochemical and overexpression studies of GmSABP2-1 to examine its possible function in SCN resistance. The protein encoded by GmSABP2-1 is closely related to known methyl salicylate esterases. To determine the biochemical function of GmSABP2-1, a full-length cDNA of GmSABP2-1 was cloned into a protein expression vector and expressed in Escherichia coli. The resulting recombinant GmSABP2-1 was demonstrated to catalyze the demethylation of methyl salicylate. The biochemical properties of GmSABP2-1 were determined. Its apparent Km value was 46.2 ± 2.2 µM for methyl salicylate, comparable to those of the known methyl salicylate esterases. To explore the biological significance of GmSABP2-1 in soybean defense against SCN, we first overexpressed GmSABP2-1 in transgenic hairy roots of an SCN-susceptible soybean line. When infected with SCN, GmSABP2-1-overexpressing hairy roots showed 84.5% reduction in the development of SCN beyond J2 stage. To provide further genetic evidence for the role of GmSABP2-1 in SCN resistance, stable transgenic soybean plants overexpressing GmSABP2-1 were produced. Analysis of the GmSABP2-1-overexpressing lines showed a significant reduction in SCN development compared to non-transgenic plants. In conclusion, we demonstrated that GmSABP2-1 encodes methyl salicylate esterase and functions as a resistance-related gene against SCN.

ABSTRACT

A critical goal of vision is to detect changes in light intensity, even when these changes are blurred by the spatial resolution of the eye and the motion of the animal. Here we describe a recurrent neural circuit in Drosophila that compensates for blur and thereby selectively enhances the perceived contrast of moving edges. Using in vivo, two-photon voltage imaging, we measured the temporal response properties of L1 and L2, two cell types that receive direct synaptic input from photoreceptors. These neurons have biphasic responses to brief flashes of light, a hallmark of cells that encode changes in stimulus intensity. However, the second phase was often much larger than the first, creating an unusual temporal filter. Genetic dissection revealed that recurrent neural circuitry strongly shapes the second phase of the response, informing the structure of a dynamical model. By applying this model to moving natural images, we demonstrate that rather than veridically representing stimulus changes, this temporal processing strategy systematically enhances them, amplifying and sharpening responses. Comparing the measured responses of L2 to model predictions across both artificial and natural stimuli revealed that L2 tunes its properties as the model predicts in order to deblur images. Since this strategy is tunable to behavioral context, generalizable to any time-varying sensory input, and implementable with a common circuit motif, we propose that it could be broadly used to selectively enhance sharp and salient changes.

Primary central nervous system lymphoma (PCNSL) is a rare and aggressive lymphoma of the brain with poor prognosis. The scarcity of cell lines established using PCNSL makes it difficult to conduct preclinical studies on new drugs. We aimed to explore the effect of selinexor combined with zanubrutinib in PCNSL using established PCNSL cells and an orthotopic PCNSL model. Primary PCNSL cells were successfully cultured. Selinexor inhibited proliferation, induced G1 phase arrest, and promoted apoptosis, however, induced drug resistance in PCNSL. Selinexor combined with zanubrutinib had a synergistic effect on PCNSL and prevented the onset of selinexor resistance in PCNSL by inhibiting AKT signaling. Moreover, selinexor combined with zanubrutinib notably slowed tumor growth and prolonged survival compared to that of the control. Overall, the addition of zanubrutinib to selinexor monotreatment had a synergistic effect in vitro and prolonged survival in vivo.

Tea products, such as instant tea, have been shown to improve the aroma of meat products. However, the mechanisms by which tea products enhance meat aroma have not been adequately explained. In this study, we analyzed the impact of instant tea on the aroma of duck meat. Our results showed that treatment with instant tea led to increases in floral, baked, and grassy notes while reducing fishy and fatty notes. Several alcohols, aldehydes, ketones, indole and dihydroactinidiolide exhibited significantly increased OAVs. Conversely, certain saturated aldehydes, unsaturated aldehydes and alcohols displayed significantly decreased OAVs. The enhanced floral, baked and grassy notes were attributed to volatile compounds present in instant tea. The reduction in fishy and fatty notes was linked to polyphenols in instant tea interacting with nonanal, undecanal, (E)-2-octenal, (E)-2-nonenal, (E)-2-decenal, and 2,4-decadienal through hydrophobic interactions and electronic effects. This study enhances our understanding of how tea products improve meat aromas.

In this Letter, the CH3NH3PbBr3 nanocrystals (NCs) are embedded into the interstices of the fluorine (polyvinyl fluoride/polyvinylidene fluoride, PVF/PVDF) matrix on polyethylene terephthalate (PET) substrate to introduce new advantages, such as being flexible and waterproof, while maintaining the high optical performance of perovskites. The sample's photoluminescence (PL) spectra under 325 nm laser is a green emission peaked at 537 nm with full width at half maximum (FWHM) of about 21.2 nm and a fast PL decay time. As a color converter, it shows high optical absorption and can transform light from solar-blind ultraviolet to a blue region into a green region in air, water, and bending conditions. While excited by a 270 nm ultraviolet light-emitting diode (LED), the system's observed -3 dB bandwidth with the color converter is near 4.4 MHz in air and water conditions with well-eye diagrams at a data rate of 30 Mbps. Finally, we demonstrate an audio transmission application with an ultraviolet light source, a color conversion layer, and a low-cost silicon-based photodetector.

ABSTRACT

The unclear pathogenic mechanisms of neurodegenerative disorders stemming from NOTCH2NLC GGC repeat expansions drive focused research. Thus, a bibliometric and meta-analysis was conducted to uncover research trends and positivity rates in NOTCH2NLC. We conducted systematic searches in the Web of Science, PubMed, Embase, and Scopus databases for studies related to NOTCH2NLC up until August 2, 2023. Information regarding countries, institutions, authors, journals, and keywords of studies included in the Web of Science was analyzed and visualized. The positivity rates of NOTCH2NLC GGC repeat expansions across all screened patients and patients' families were pooled under the random-effects model. Publication bias and its impact were examined using funnel plots, Egger's linear regression, and trim-and-fill method. The bibliometric analysis, revealing pronounced publication growth, comprised 119 studies, which came from China and Japan particularly. "Neuronal intranuclear inclusion disease" emerged as a frequently used keyword. The meta-analysis comprised 36 studies, indicating global positivity rates of 1.79% (95% CI, 0.75-3.17) for all patients and 2.00% (95% CI, 0.26-4.78) for patients' families. Subgroup analyses based on region and phenotype suggested the highest NOTCH2NLC positivity rates in Taiwan population (5.42%, 95% CI 0.08-16.89) and in leukoencephalopathy-dominant patients (8.25%, 95% CI, 3.01-15.60). Sensitivity analysis affirmed the robustness of results. In conclusion, NOTCH2NLC GGC repeat expansions exhibit rare globally, primarily in East Asia, and leukoencephalopathy-dominant patients, emphasizing regional and phenotypic distinctions. Emerging focal points in NOTCH2NLC researches underscore the need for collaborative exploration.
