ABSTRACT

Pregnancy epulis is a tumor-like lesion with high prevalence in China. The local lesion, the general condition of the pregnant patient, and the complications during treatment should be taken into consideration when making a treatment plan for pregnancy epulis. In this study, three representative pregnancy epulis cases were presented, and related studies at home and aboard were reviewed to summarize the etiology, differential diagnosis, treatment, and prevention of pregnancy epulis and share the clinical experience in the treatment of pregnancy epulis.

ABSTRACT

Small ubiquitin-like modifier 4 (SUMO4) is the latest member of the sumoylation family, which enhances the stability of protein, regulates the distribution and localization of the protein, and affects the transcription activity of the protein. However, the role of SUMO4 in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) has not yet been reported. The present study first demonstrated that SUMO4 was upregulated in a number of tissues from patients with NSCLC. Immunohistochemistry was performed to demonstrate the expression level of SUMO4 in lung cancer tumor tissues. Following the transfection, The EMT status and signaling pathway activation regulated by SUMO4-siRNA was assessed by western blotting. The Transwell and wound healing assays were performed to investigate the regulatory effect of SUMO4-siRNA on cell migration and invasion. Cell Counting Kit-8 assay was performed to investigate whether SUMO4-siRNA affected the chemosensitivity of the NSCLC cells to cisplatin. Statistical analysis of immunohistochemical results from the tissues showed that the overexpression of SUMO4 was significantly associated with sex, tumor type, history of smoking, T stage and poor prognosis. It was also identified that SUMO4 small interfering RNA attenuated invasion and migration in NSCLC cell lines, as well chemosensitivity to cisplatin via the inhibition of the JAK2/STAT3 pathway. In conclusion, SUMO4 may play an important role in the poor prognosis of patients with NSCLC. The present study indicates that SUMO4 may be a potential therapeutic target for NSCLC.

ABSTRACT

The upregulation of discoidin domain receptor tyrosine kinase 2 (DDR2) has been reported to be associated with poor prognosis and metastasis in numerous tumor types by inducing epithelial-mesenchymal transition (EMT); however, the expression profile of DDR2 in papillary thyroid carcinoma (PTC) with local metastasis and the effect of DDR2 on PTC cells remain unknown. The aim of the present study was to investigate the expression levels of DDR2 in tumor tissues of patients with PTC with local metastasis and cell lines and to determine the effect of DDR2 on EMT in PTC cells. In the present study, it was demonstrated that DDR2 was significantly increased in tumor tissues of patients with PTC with local metastasis and human PTC cell lines. The overexpression of DDR2 by lentiviral transfection decreased E-cadherin protein, increased Vimentin protein, and promoted cell migration and invasion. The inhibition of DDR2 reversed transforming growth factor-ß- and collagen I-induced EMT. EMT induced by DDR2 overexpression was suggested to be dependent on increased Snail1 protein level following extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK)2 activation. The inhibition of Snail1 or ERK2 was sufficient to abrogate DDR2-induced PTC cell EMT. In conclusion, these results indicate that DDR2 is upregulated in PTC tissues with local metastasis. Overexpression of DDR2 induced EMT in PTC cells by activating ERK2 and stabilizing Snail1, making it a promising therapeutic target for reducing PTC local or distant metastasis.

ABSTRACT

A rarely seen phenolato and azido-bridged polymeric cadmium(II) complex derived from the Schiff base ligand 2-bromo-6-[(2-isopropylaminoethylimino)methyl]phenol (HL) has been prepared and characterized by elemental analysis, IR spectroscopy, and single crystal X-ray diffraction. The Schiff base ligand coordinates to the Cd atom through the NNO donor set. The Cd atom is hexa-coordinated in an octahedral geometry. Adjacent two Cd atoms are bridged by two phenolato groups generating a dimer with Cd···Cd distance of 3.475(1) Å. The dimers are further linked via azido bridges forming 2D sheets parallel to the bc plane.
