ABSTRACT

The epizootiological and epidemiological stratification of the territory of Azerbaijan on hydatid disease was made. Four zones were identified as low, moderately, highly and extremely endemic. These zones are differentiated from their climatic and social conditions for echinococcosis distribution, human incidence and prevalence, canine and ovine number and prevalence, and the time of survival of echinococcus eggs in the soil. The most intensive disease control measures are recommended in mountainous regions of the Small Caucasus.

ABSTRACT

Using social and economic criteria, the efficacy of health improving measures against enterobiasis in the organized groups of pre-school children has been assessed. The introduction of mass treatment of children with vermox into a complex of antienterobiasis measures has a considerable health improving effect, without rendering the procedure more expensive. A considerable difference between the economic damage inflicted by enterobiasis and the economic efficacy of antienterobiasis complex, including mass children treatment, forms the basis for the wide use of anthelmintics in the control of this type of helminthiasis.

ABSTRACT

Winter pasturing in [correction of Ontogonic] animal farming typical of mountain regions highly endemic for echinococcosis effects the epidemiological situation in the low lands that are not highly endemic. This is particularly marked in settlements located near the routes of cattle driving and winter pastures, which leads to higher echinococcosis morbidity of the local population as assessed by the results of serological tests.

ABSTRACT

As result of sanitary-helminthological studies it has been found out, that under the conditions of urban agglomeration a great number of dogs, their uncontrolled maintenance and access to various objects induce intensive environmental pollution with zoohelminthologic causative agents and provides a high risk of infection of the population with causative agents of such diseases as toxocariasis++ and echinococcosis. Adherence to sanitary-veterinary rules of dogs maintenance prevents to a significant degree dispersion of the invasion matter in the environment.

ABSTRACT

RIHA serological and epidemiological survey for toxocariasis in 4765 inhabitants of various districts of the Baku agglomeration has been performed. Positivity rate in the town settlements was 12.5% versus 2.8 +/- 0.5% in the central Baku. The risk groups were identified according to the population's behavior that determines the contact with environmental objects. The highest seropositive rates (10.1 and 9.7%) were found in children aged 4-7 and 8-11 years, respectively and that (6.5%) in females aged 31 to 60 years.

ABSTRACT

The distribution of the AB0 blood groups was investigated in 624 patients with echinococcosis operated on and in 579 persons whose sera were subjected to IHAT with echinococcosis diagnosticum. Higher disease incidence was recorded in patients with the A (II) blood, especially in males, as compared to the controls. Simultaneous involvement of the liver, lungs and other organs was more common in them. Rh-positive patients predominated both in the A (II) and control groups. Blood group distribution with regard to IHAT findings failed to reveal any regular features.
