ABSTRACT

Soft actuators based on liquid crystalline elastomers (LCEs) are captivating significant interest because of their unique properties combining the programmable liquid crystalline molecular order and elasticity of polymeric materials. For practical applications, the ability to perform multimodal shape changes in a single LCE actuator at a subsecond level is a bottleneck. Here, we fabricate a monodomain LCE powered by electrostatic force, which enables fast multidirectional bending, oscillation, rotation, and complex actuation with a high degree of freedom. By tuning the dielectric constant and resistivity in LCE gels, a complete cycle of oscillation and rotation only takes 0.1 s. In addition, monodomain actuators exhibit anisotropic actuation behaviors that promise a more complex deployment in a potential electromechanical system. The presented study will pave the way for electrostatically controllable isothermal manipulation for a fast and multimode soft actuator.

ABSTRACT

The increased prevalence of the Internet of Things (IoT) and the integration of digital technology into our daily lives have given rise to heightened security risks and the need for more robust security measures. In response to these challenges, physical unclonable functions (PUFs) have emerged as promising solution, offering a highly secure method to generate unpredictable and unique random digital values by leveraging inherent physical characteristics. However, traditional PUFs implementations often require complex hardware and circuitry, which can add to the cost and complexity of the system. We present a novel approach using a random wrinkles PUF (rw-PUF) based on an optically anisotropic, facile, simple, and cost-effective material. These wrinkles contain randomly oriented liquid crystal molecules, resulting in a two-dimensional retardation map corresponding to a complex birefringence pattern. Additionally, our proposed technique allows for customization based on specific requirements using a spatial light modulator, enabling fast fabrication. The random wrinkles PUF has the capability to store multiple data sets within a single PUF without the need for physical alterations. Furthermore, we introduce a concept called 'polyhedron authentication,' which utilizes three-dimensional information storage in a voxelated random wrinkles PUF. This approach demonstrates the feasibility of implementing high-level security technology by leveraging the unique properties of the rw-PUF.

ABSTRACT

The motions of the shoulder are mainly carried out through the glenohumeral joint, but are also assisted by the scapulothoracic joint. Therefore, changes in the biomechanics of the thoracic spine and scapula affect the function of the shoulder. However, there is limited information on the biomechanical and functional characteristics of the shoulder complex and thoracic spine in patients with subacromial impingement syndrome (SIS). In this study, the biomechanical and functional characteristics of the shoulder complex and thoracic spine were analyzed in patients with SIS compared to healthy individuals. A total of 108 participants were included in this study. Participants were classified into 2 groups, the SIS (n = 55) and healthy (n = 53) groups. The shoulder and thoracic range of motion (ROM), scapular position, and isokinetic shoulder strength were measured in all participants. The shoulder ROM was significantly decreased in the SIS group compared to the healthy group (P < .001). The thoracic spine ROM showed significantly limited extension in the SIS group (P < .001). The scapular position showed significantly increased anterior tilting (P = .005), internal rotation (P = .032), protraction (P < .001), and decreased upward rotation (P = .002) in the SIS group. The isokinetic shoulder external rotation (P < .001) and abduction (P < .001) strength were significantly lower in the SIS group. Patients with SIS showed reduced shoulder ROM and end-range extension of the thoracic spine compared to healthy individuals, and the scapula was in a more anterior-tilted, protracted, and downward rotated position. In addition, it showed lower external rotation and abduction strength. These results suggest the need for interventions to improve the limited thoracic extension and altered scapular position, which may affect shoulder ROM and muscle strength in the rehabilitation of patients with SIS.

ABSTRACT

Lateral ankle sprain (LAS) is a common sports injury that frequently occurs in active individuals. LAS is characterized by a high recurrence rate, with a large proportion of patients progressing to chronic ankle instability (CAI). Pilates exercises have provided positive results in health care and in rehabilitation. This study compared Pilates training (PT) with traditional balance training (BT) in patients with CAI. Fifty-one college football players with CAI, divided into PT (n = 26) and BT (n = 25) groups, were included in the study. The groups performed PT or BT training as assigned, three times per week for 6 weeks. Isokinetic ankle strength, one-leg hop tests, Y-balance test (YBT), and foot and ankle outcome score (FAOS) were evaluated before and after training. There were considerable improvements in both the PT and BT groups after training. Group and time comparisons revealed that the PT group achieved better triple hop test results than the BT group, whereas the BT group exhibited a greater improvement in YBT posteromedial and posterolateral reach distances. In athletes with CAI, both PT and BT effectively improved symptoms and function. These findings suggest that ankle strength, balance, and core stability should be comprehensively evaluated and targeted in CAI rehabilitation programs.

ABSTRACT

The representative clinical features of adhesive capsulitis of the hip (ACH) are restricted range of motion (ROM) and pain. However, reports on kinetics such as strength and dynamic balance that explain physical functions are rare. This study compared subjective hip scores using Copenhagen Hip and Groin Outcome Score (HAGOS) and ROM using a manual goniometer as well as strength using isokinetic equipment, and dynamic balance through the Y-balance test, between patients with ACH and healthy individuals. Data of 193 middle-aged participants (men: 99 and women: 94) were analyzed. The ACH group scored significantly lower in all six HAGOS sub-sections. Hip joint flexion, abduction, internal and external rotation ROM were significantly lower in ACH compared to healthy group. These results were the same for men and women. In the strength of men and women, flexion, adduction, and abduction, and dynamic balance in all three directions were significantly decreased in ACH. Meanwhile, there were no significant between-group differences in the functional decrease in extension and adduction of ROM, and extension strength. In conclusion, subjective evaluation and dynamic balance of patients with ACH were decreased in the all parts. In ROM, flexion, abduction, internal rotation, and external rotation were restricted except for extension and adduction. Men and women with ACH maintained extensor strength, but had weakened strength in flexion, adduction and abduction. This information will be useful for therapists to understand the biomechanical properties of ACH and to design effective rehabilitation programs.

ABSTRACT

Femoroacetabular impingement (FAI) is caused by hip joint anomalies. Although asymptomatic and symptomatic FAI have been reported in young adults, information on biomechanical and functional characteristics of FAI is rare. We compared the subjective hip score, range of motion (ROM), dynamic balance, and hip strength between symptomatic FAI (FAIsym) and asymptomatic FAI (FAIasym) groups and healthy controls. Participants (n = 307; men: 155, women: 152) were classified according to morphological abnormalities and hip joint symptoms, comprising symptomatic FAI, asymptomatic FAI, and healthy controls. The Copenhagen Hip and Groin Outcome Score (HAGOS), hip ROM, Y-balance test (YBT), and isokinetic hip strength were measured. The types of FAI were not significantly differenent in both men and women. FAIsym exhibited significantly reduced HAGOS, whereas FAIasym showed no significant difference compared to the healthy group (men: healthy 91.7 vs. FAIasym 87.2 vs. FAIsym 49.9, women: healthy 91.7 vs. FAIasym 86.2 vs. FAIsym 53.9). Hip flexion, adduction, and internal and external rotation ROMs were only significantly reduced in symptomatic FAI. Asymptomatic and symptomatic FAI groups displayed significantly lower YBT scores than healthy controls (men healthy: 84.9 vs. FAIasym: 69.0 vs. FAIsym 58.7, women healthy 79.2 vs. FAIasym 64.0 vs. FAIsym 55.5). Isokinetic hip flexion, adduction, and abduction strengths were significantly lower in FAIsym. In conclusion, FAIasym showed no decrease in muscle strength but displayed reduced dynamic balance. Subjective satisfaction, ROM, muscle strength, and dynamic balance were lower in FAIsym compared to FAIasym and healthy groups.

Meniscal allograft transplantation (MAT) is a treatment modality for restoring knee function in patients with irreversible meniscal injury. Strengthening programs to promote functional recovery are treated with caution during the intermediate rehabilitation phase following MAT. This study analyzed the effects of aquatic training (AQT) and bicycling training (BCT) during the intermediate stage of rehabilitation in amateur athletes that underwent MAT. Participants (n = 60) were divided into AQT (n = 30) and BCT (n = 30) groups. Both groups performed training three times per week from 6 to 24 weeks following surgery. International Knee Documentation Committee Subjective Knee Evaluation Form (IKDC) score, knee joint range of motion (ROM), isokinetic knee strength, and Y-balance test (YBT) performance were evaluated. All measured variables for the AQT and BCT groups improved significantly after training compared with pre-training values. The IKDC score and YBT were significantly higher for AQT than for BCT. The knee flexion ROM and isokinetic muscle strength were significantly improved in the BCT group compared to those in the AQT group. The AQT group exhibited greater improvement in dynamic balance, whereas BCT provided greater improvement in isokinetic muscle strength. AQT and BCT were effective in reducing discomfort and improving knee symptoms and functions during intermediate-stage rehabilitation following MAT in amateur athletes.

ABSTRACT

Patellofemoral pain syndrome (PFPS) is one of the most common overuse injuries experienced by athletes. It is characterized by pain and functional deficits that lead to decreased performance, thereby limiting sports activity. Therefore, optimal training interventions are required to improve physical fitness and function while minimizing pain due to PFPS. This study aimed to compare and analyze the effects of high-intensity aquatic training (AT) and bicycling training (BT) in male athletes with PFPS. Fifty-four athletes with PFPS were divided into AT and BT intervention groups. Intervention training was conducted three times per week for 8 weeks. Cardiorespiratory fitness was evaluated using the graded exercise test (GXT) based on peak oxygen uptake (VO2 peak), and anaerobic threshold. For the knee strength test, extension and flexion were performed and measured using isokinetic equipment. One-leg hop tests and the Y-balance test (YBT) were performed to evaluate dynamic balance, and the International Knee Documentation Committee (IKDC) scoring system was used for subjective knee evaluation. The GXT, YBT, and IKDC scores were reported according to the group and duration of the intervention. After training, VO2 peak, YBT, knee extension strength, and IKDC score improved significantly in both the AT and BT groups compared with the pre-training values. Furthermore, the AT group exhibited significant improvement compared with the BT group. We demonstrated that AT and BT effectively improved the symptoms and muscle strength of athletes with PFPS who were only able to engage in limited high-intensity field training. AT produced a modestly better effect than BT.

ABSTRACT

Cardiorespiratory fitness, anaerobic power, and lower extremity strength are essential for soccer players at all levels. An effective program should be developed to improve physical strength for adolescent soccer players who need to combine academic and technical training. This study analyzed the impact of short-term high intensity interval training (HIIT) training and traditional moderate intensity continuous training (MICT) on adolescent soccer players. Participants included 56 adolescent soccer players who were divided into HIIT and MICT groups. The training program was conducted 3 times a week for 4 weeks using cycle ergometer. Each session included the same resistance training program, and the characteristics of HIIT and MICT were applied to improve cardiorespiratory fitness and anaerobic power. Body composition analysis, graded exercise test for peak oxygen uptake (VO2 peak), Wingate anaerobic power test, and isokinetic knee strength test were performed. VO2 peak was improved in HIIT and MICT, but anaerobic threshold and heart rate recovery significantly improved in the HIIT group. Wingate anaerobic peak power had increased significantly in sets 1, 2, and 3 in the HIIT group, but showed significant improvement only in set 1 in the MICT group. The isokinetic strength improved significantly in the HIIT group at 60°/s and in the MICT group at 240°/s. There was no significant change in body composition in either group. In conclusion, short-term HIIT administered to adolescent soccer players effectively improved cardiorespiratory fitness in HIIT and MICT groups. While HIIT increased anaerobic threshold and power, MICT effectively improved muscle endurance. Short-term intensive training can be considered a time-efficient training strategy.

Metabolic syndrome (MetS) in children and adolescents is increasing globally and the age of onset is gradually decreasing. MetS is associated with serious health problems and presents an early risk for adult morbidity and mortality. From 2014-2019, we investigated the relationship between MetS and health behaviors such as smoking, alcohol consumption, and nutrition education in Korean adolescents (boys: 1235, girls: 1087, age: 13-18 years) based on household income; the relationship with hand grip strength was also evaluated. The prevalence of MetS was 8.8% in boys and 5.1% in girls; in the lowest income households, the risk increased ~1.5-fold for boys and ~4-fold for girls, whereas risks of smoking and alcohol use increased 1.81 vs. 2.34 times, and 2.34 vs. 2.37 times for boys and girls, respectively. In adolescents with the weakest grip strength, the risk of MetS increased 9.62 and 7.79 times in boys and girls, respectively. Girls lacking nutrition education exhibited a 1.67-fold increased risk of MetS, but this was not significant in boys. Low household income increased the risk of unhealthy behaviors such as smoking and alcohol consumption in both sexes, and together with low hand grip strength, was an important predictor for developing MetS.

Soft actuators have recently been widely studied due to their significant advantages including light weight, continuous deformability, high environment adaptability, and safe human-robot interactions. In this study, we designed electrically responsive poly(sodium 4-vinylbenzenesulfonate/2-hydroxyethylmethacrylate/acrylamide) (P(VBS/HEMA/AAm)) and poly(sodium 4-vinylbenzenesulfonate/2-hydroxyethyl methacrylate/acrylic acid) (P(VBS/HEMA/AAc)) hydrogels. A series of P(VBS/HEMA/AAm) and P(VBS/HEMA/AAc) hydrogels were prepared by adjusting the monomer composition and cross-linking density to systemically analyze various factors affecting the actuation of hydrogels under an electric field. All hydrogels exhibited more than 65% gel fraction and a high equilibrium water content (EWC) of more than 90%. The EWC of hydrogels gradually increased with decreasing cross-linker content and was also influenced by the monomer composition. The mechanical properties of hydrogels were proportional to the cross-linking density. Particularly, hydrogels showed bending deformation even at low voltages below 10 V, and the electrically responsive bending actuation of hydrogels can be modulated by cross-linking density, monomer composition, applied voltage, ion strength of the electrolyte solution, and geometrical parameters of the hydrogel. By controlling these factors, hydrogels showed a fast response with a bending of more than 100° within a minute. In addition, hydrogels did not show significant cytotoxicity in a biocompatibility test and exhibited more than 84% cell viability. These results indicate that P(VBS/HEMA/AAm) and P(VBS/HEMA/AAc) hydrogels with fast response properties even under a low electric field have the potential to be used in a wide range of soft actuator applications.

ABSTRACT

In various fields such as the 5G antenna system and satellite communication system, there is a growing demand to develop a smart antenna with a frequency selective or beamforming function within a limited space. While antennas utilizing mechanical, electronic, and material characteristics are being studied, a method of having tunable frequency characteristics by applying a liquid crystal material with dielectric anisotropy to a planar patch antenna is proposed. In resonance mode, the design method for using only the minimum amount of expensive liquid crystals is systematically arranged while maximizing the amount of change in the operating frequency of the antenna by considering the electric field distribution on the surface of the patch antenna. Furthermore, to increase the dielectric anisotropy of the liquid crystal, the liquid crystal must be aligned. Simultaneously, in cases where the cell gap of the liquid crystal exceeds 100 µm, the alignment force is weakened. While compensating for this shortcoming, securing the radiation characteristics of the antenna is proposed, and simulations are performed.

ABSTRACT

Background: The association of metabolic syndrome and its components with the risk of thyroid cancer is unclear. Thus, we conducted a large-scale, nationwide, population-based, cohort study to investigate this relationship. Methods: We studied 9,890,917 adults without thyroid cancer from the Korean National Health Insurance health checkup database from January 1 to December 31, 2009. Individuals with at least three of the following five components were diagnosed with metabolic syndrome: abdominal obesity, hypertriglyceridemia, low high-density lipoprotein-cholesterol levels, elevated blood pressure, and hyperglycemia. Multivariate Cox proportional hazards models were used to estimate thyroid cancer risk. Results: During the average 7.2 years of follow-up, 77,133 thyroid cancer cases were newly identified. The thyroid cancer risk was higher in the metabolic syndrome group than in the nonmetabolic syndrome group (hazard ratio [HR] 1.15 [95% confidence interval, CI 1.13-1.17]). The association between metabolic syndrome and thyroid cancer risk was significant in the obese group (HR 1.10 [CI 1.07-1.13]) and not in the nonobese group (HR 1.002 [CI 0.98-1.03]). The effect of metabolic syndrome on the risk of thyroid cancer differs according to obesity (p for interaction = 0.017). People with all five components of metabolic syndrome had a 39% higher risk than those without any components (HR 1.39 [CI 1.33-1.44]). The higher risk of thyroid cancer in people with all five components was significant in the obese group (HR 1.29 [CI 1.21-1.38]), but not in the nonobese group (HR 1.06 [CI 0.98-1.14]). There was a significant interaction between the number of metabolic syndrome components and obesity (p for interaction <0.0001). For the combined effect of obesity and metabolic syndrome on the risk of thyroid cancer, obese men with metabolic syndrome had the highest risk of thyroid cancer compared with those without (HR 1.58 [CI 1.52-1.64]), but obese women with metabolic syndrome did not. Conclusions: Metabolic syndrome was associated with an increased risk of thyroid cancer in the Korean general population. Metabolic syndrome had a more significant risk of thyroid cancer in the obese group. Metabolic syndrome and obesity were associated with a higher risk of thyroid cancer in men but not in women.

ABSTRACT

Electroactive hydrogels that exhibit large deformation in response to an electric field have received significant attention as a potential actuating material for soft actuators and artificial muscle. However, their mechanical actuation has been limited in simple bending or folding due to uniform electric field modulation. To implement complex movements, a pre-program, such as a hinge and a multilayer pattern, is usually required for the actuator in advance. Here, we propose a reprogrammable actuating method and sophisticated manipulation by using multipolar three-dimensional electric field modulation without pre-program. Through the multipolar spatial electric field modulator, which controls the polarity/intensity of the electric field in three-dimensions, complex three-dimensional (3D) actuation of single hydrogels are achieved. Also, air bubbles generated during operation in the conventional horizontal configuration are not an issue in the proposed new vertical configuration. We demonstrate soft robotic actuators, including basic bending mechanics in terms of controllability and reliability, and several 3D shapes having positive and negative curvature can easily be achieved in a single sheet, paving the way for continuously reconfigurable materials.

BACKGROUND: The lack of adequate and detailed epidemiological data of Parkinson's disease (PD), especially in Asia, is a barrier to future disease burdens and the prospect of effective public health plans. This study aimed to investigate temporal trends in the incidence and prevalence of PD in South Korea from 2010 to 2015, based on uniform diagnostic criteria. METHODS: This study examined all PD patients registered in a South Korean national registry database of more than 50 million individuals. We analyzed the incidence and prevalence of PD according to age, gender, and region. RESULTS: The annual incidence of PD was between 22.4-27.8 cases per 100,000 individuals. During the 6-year study period, there were 73,726 new PD patients, 42.3% of whom were men. The standardized incidence of PD increased over time in men but remained constant in women until 2013 but began to increase in 2014. The female-to-male ratio in the incidence of PD was 1.4:1 while the female-to-male ratio in the prevalence of PD was 1.6:1. The age- and gender-standardized prevalence of PD increased from 115.9 cases per 100,000 individuals in 2010 to 139.8 cases per 100,000 individuals in 2015. From 2014, the incidence and prevalence of PD peaked in individuals aged between 80 and 89 years in both men and women. Regional analysis also showed an increased prevalence of PD in all regions of Korea. CONCLUSIONS: The incidence and prevalence of PD in Korea were higher in women and increased gradually from 2010 to 2015. The findings may contribute to epidemiological studies of PD in Asia, and may provide clues on risk factors for PD.

The aim of this study was to investigate the prescribing cascade phenomenon of dopaminergic drugs such as levodopa in the management of gastroprokinetic drugs induced parkinsonism. Based on the Korea National Health Insurance Service (NHIS)-Senior Cohort Database, we analyzed patients aged ≥65 years, between 2009 and 2013, who obtained new prescriptions for levodopa through the NHIS during this period. Those who were prescribed levodopa from 2002 to 2008 were excluded, only patients who were prescribed metoclopramide and levosulpiride within 90 days of receiving the levodopa prescription were included. Those who did not receive levodopa were used as a control group for 1:3 age and sex matching. We assessed 1824 and 1197 levodopa cases for metoclopramide and levosulpiride use, respectively. The matched controls for each levodopa case were 5472 and 3591, respectively. We used conditional logistic regression to determine the odds ratio (OR) for initiation of levodopa therapy in patients using metoclopramide and levosulpiride, relative to nonusers, after adjusting for age, sex, and exposure to antipsychotic medication. Both metoclopramide (OR = 3.04; 95% confidence interval, CI, 2.46-3.77) and levosulpiride (OR = 3.32; 95% CI, 2.56-4.3) users were three times more likely to begin using medication containing levodopa, compared to nonusers. Metoclopramide and levosulpiride were frequently prescribed within 90 days of receiving a prescription for levodopa. Before prescribing levodopa, it should be considered whether the adverse event is actually a side effect caused by metoclopramide and levosulpiride.

BACKGROUND: Depression, one of the most costly and common mental disorders, is reported to be associated with lower quality of life (QoL) in several studies. Improved understanding of the associated factors with QoL is necessary to optimize long-term outcomes and reduce disability in patients with depression. Therefore, the aim of this study was to identify factors that are associated with lower QoL among patients with depression. METHODS: The study was based on the Korea National Health and Nutrition Examination Survey, a cross-sectional health examination, years 2008 to 2014. The final analyzed sample consisted of a total of 1,502 study subjects who had been diagnosed by clinicians as having depression. A multivariate logistic regression model was performed to exam the association between the clinical characteristics (age, sex, demographic and health-related characteristics) and QoL. Analysis of covariance was also used to analyze EQ-5D according to mental health. RESULTS: Older age, lower level of education, lower income, worse subjective perception of health, unemployment, obesity and mental health struggles were found to be significantly associated with low QoL in depressive individuals after adjustment for multiple covariates. CONCLUSIONS: This study has outlined grounding data in identifying patients who are at risk of QoL impairment. Policy makers should direct their interests to these individuals and provide appropriate management.

ABSTRACT

INTRODUCTION: The association between Parkinson's disease (PD) and cancer development is controversial, especially in Asia. Therefore, we conducted a nationwide population-based cohort study to assess the overall cancer risk and risk for specific cancers in patients with PD in Korea. METHODS: Using data from the Korean National Health Insurance Database, we analysed 52,009 patients diagnosed with PD between 2010 and 2015 and 260,045 individuals without PD. Patients previously diagnosed with cancer were excluded. The age- and sex-matched cohorts were followed up until 2016 for cancer development. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to evaluate the relationship between PD and cancer. RESULTS: Patients with PD had a lower overall cancer risk (hazard ratio [HR], 0.78; 95% confidence interval [CI], 0.74-0.82) after adjustment for multiple covariates during 2,022,852.6 person-years of follow-up. Patients with PD showed significantly lower risk of laryngeal cancer (HR, 0.45; 95% CI, 0.21-0.84), gastric cancer (HR, 0.72; 95% CI, 0.63-0.82), colorectal cancer (HR, 0.675; 95% CI, 0.60-0.76), liver cancer (HR, 0.80; 95% CI, 0.67-0.95), pancreatic cancer (HR, 0.75; 95% CI, 0.62-0.91), lung cancer (HR, 0.73; 95% CI, 0.63-0.84), leukaemia (HR, 0.49; 95% CI, 0.24-0.89), uterine cervical cancer (HR, 0.64; 95% CI, 0.40-0.99) and prostate cancer (HR, 0.78; 95% CI, 0.66-0.91). CONCLUSION: This nationwide population-based cohort study revealed that patients with PD had lower overall cancer risk and lower risk of specific cancers. Contrary to the results of the recent Asian study, this large cohort study revealed that patients with PD were less likely to develop cancer than those without PD in Korea. Our results were consistent with those of previous Western studies, despite differences in ethnicity and environment.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Several studies suggest that statin may increase the risk of new-onset diabetes mellitus (NODM). This study aimed to evaluate the association between the duration and recent use of statin, and the risk of NODM, based on population-based data sets. METHODS: We used the South Korean National Health Insurance Service National Sample Cohort database for this nationwide case-control study. Of the 1 million participants, 6417 participants with NODM in 2012-2013 and 32,085 controls without diabetes (1:5 propensity score matched with age, sex, index year, and year of diabetes diagnosis) were included. In these patients, we examined the statin prescription record for 3 years preceding the outcome. We used conditional logistic regression to calculate the odds ratios (ORs) and 95% confidence intervals (CIs). RESULTS: After adjustment of covariates, there were no significant differences in the risk of NODM when analyzed according to cumulative use days. The risk of NODM was increased only in the short-term and recent user group (OR 1.48, 95% CI 1.21 to 1.82) whose cumulative prescription days are less than 6 months and whose last prescription is within 6 months of diagnosis. CONCLUSIONS: The risk of NODM was not associated with an increase in the cumulative duration of statin use or with non-recent use. Only recent short-term use of statin was associated with an increased risk of NODM. Diabetes screening are warranted during initial statin therapy.
