ABSTRACT
The literature data are presented on the nature and characteristics of acid-production on gastric ulcer disease. Functional status and gastric acid-production indicators related to duration of ulcer disease, especially its clinical course, the nature of complications. The advantage as aspiration probe method, and stomach pH-metry were shown. Indicators of stomach acid-production should be taken into account when determining the surgical tactics and choice of intervention method for ulcer disease.

Diagnosed in a clinical setting were 28 cases of histologically verified columnar cell metaplasia of the esophageal epithelium in patients with grave forms of reflux disease of the esophagus. For the specialized type metaplasia characteristic for the Barrette's esophagus, which was detected in 22 (78.6%) patients, signs of availability of its neoplasic potential included dysplasia of the epithelium, inversion of the mucus-producing process, and eosinophilia of the inflammatory infiltrate.

There were performed examination and surgical treatment of 93 patients with chronic gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD) and motor disorders of gastroesophageal junction, esophageal and gastric bodies. In 49 (52.7%) of patients the total fundoplication was done, in 44 (47.3%)--incomplete one. After the operation all the patients had survived. In 5 years and more there were examined 71 (76.3%) of patients, in all of them good and fair results were obtained.

Selective spectral peripheric electrogastroenterography (SSPEGEG), the noninvasive method of the gut functional state estimation, is based on registration of biopotentials from the body surface, generated by stomach and intestine, using apparatus-program unit on the PC IBM base. The possibilities and advantages of this method in comparison with others (roentgenological, radiological, radionuclide, balloonographic and tensiographic) were considered. The principles of the SSPEGEG application for clinical monitoring conduction are adduced.

A study is presented of the frequency of newly diagnosed destructive pulmonary tuberculosis in a large industrial city in 1986. The authors analyze causes of belated detection of the disease, described the clinical features of the tuberculous process, treatment results. A comparison is made with data in retrospect for 1980 with the purpose of evaluating the epidemiologic situation in the city.
