ABSTRACT

Light-matter interaction between quantum emitters and optical cavities plays a vital role in fundamental quantum photonics and the development of optoelectronics. Resonant metasurfaces are proven to be an efficient platform for tailoring the spontaneous emission (SE) of the emitters. In this work, we study the interplay between quasi-2D perovskites and dielectric TiO2 metasurfaces. The metasurface, functioning as an open cavity, enhances electric fields near its plane, thereby influencing the emissions of the perovskite. This is verified through angle-resolved photoluminescence (PL) studies. We also conducted reflectivity measurements and numerical simulations to validate the coupling between the quasi-2D perovskites and photonic modes. Notably, our work introduces a spatial mapping approach to study Purcell enhancement. Using fluorescence lifetime imaging microscopy (FLIM), we directly link the PL and lifetimes of the quasi-2D perovskites in spatial distribution when positioned on the metasurface. This correlation provides unprecedented insights into emitter distribution and emitter-resonator interactions. The methodology opens a new (to the best of our knowledge) approach for studies in quantum optics, optoelectronics, and medical imaging by enabling spatial mapping of both PL intensity and lifetime, differentiating between uncoupled quantum emitters and those coupled with different types of resonators.

ABSTRACT

Skeletal muscle has the remarkable ability to modulate its mass in response to changes in nutritional input, functional utilization, systemic disease, and age. This is achieved by the coordination of transcriptional and post-transcriptional networks and the signaling cascades balancing anabolic and catabolic processes with energy and nutrient availability. The extent to which alternative splicing regulates these signaling networks is uncertain. Here we investigate the role of the RNA-binding protein hnRNP-U on the expression and splicing of genes and the signaling processes regulating skeletal muscle hypertrophic growth. Muscle-specific Hnrnpu knockout (mKO) mice develop an adult-onset myopathy characterized by the selective atrophy of glycolytic muscle, the constitutive activation of Akt, increases in cellular and metabolic stress gene expression, and changes in the expression and splicing of metabolic and signal transduction genes. These findings link Hnrnpu with the balance between anabolic signaling, cellular and metabolic stress, and physiological growth.

ABSTRACT

A direct, controlled comparison of the photodegradation of imazethapyr has been made between imazethapyr in aqueous solutions, imazethapyr on the surface of epicuticular waxes of corn and soybean plants, and imazethapyr on the surface of intact corn and soybean plant leaves. In some experiments, the imazethapyr solutions were allowed to evaporate partially or fully after application to better model environmental conditions. The photodegradation of imazethapyr was fastest in aqueous solutions (k = 0.16 ± 0.02 h-1) and slowest on the surface of corn and soybean plants (kcorn = 0.00048 ± 0.001 h-1 and ksoy = 0.00054 ± 0.003 h-1). Experiments allowing evaporation during irradiation have intermediate rate constants (e.g., kcorn = 0.082 ± 0.005 h-1). Finally, identification of photoproducts was also examined on epicuticular waxes of corn and soybean plants for the first time.
