A case is presented of a solitary endocardial cysticercus of cellulose discovered at a biopsy in the left auricula of the heart, got by a 36-year old patient at the operation who had a mitral and aortal defect caused by a reumatic endocarditis. The cisticercus is implanted on the surface of an intact endothelium and the fibroelastic structure of the superficial part of the endocardium is preserved. Inflammation of the endocardium and the myocardium is presented by a perivascular infiltrates eosinophile granulocytes, plasms cells and lymphocytes, suggesting an allergic nature of inflammation. In histological preparates stained by selective methods of fungus according to Gridley and Crocott on the wall of the membrane of the cyst polymorphal Yeast-like elements are discovered at a size of 2-12 mil. mic. which ultrastructurally show degenerative forms of membranous structures suspected as immature primitive proglotids. In this paper, the objective difficulties are pointed out at the microscopic diagnosis of the cisticercus in the pathological material.

The surgical treatment of carcinoma of the lower segment of the esophagus presents a problem in the sense of operability and five--years survival. The authors presented 56 patients operated by GARLOCK-SWEET method for carcinoma of the lower segment of the esophagus. The investigated clinical material was divided into 2 groups. In the group--I (A) 17 operated patients were classified without metastatic deposits in the regional lymph nodes. In group--II (B) were 39 operated cases with regional lymphatic nodes metastatic deposits, where as a splenectomy was made. In a 11 operated patients pyloroplasty was made. Leakage of the anastomosis occurred in 7 patients. Only 6 patients survived more than 5 years after the operation. A control group (C) of 13 patients with inoperabile carcinoma of the lower segment of the esophagus had been inserted the Celestin tube. In 5 patients there was operabile mortality.

The present study included the results of 154 cases aortoiliac arteriosclerotic obstruction surgically treated at the Clinic for Surgical Diseases--Skopje Yugoslavia. The investigated operative clinical material was divided in to 3 groups. The I group consisted of endarterectomy in 89 patients. The II group had undergone resection of arterosclerotic obstruction in 26 cases. While in the III group a aortofemoral by-pass operation was carried out in 39 cases. In addition, a control group of 16 patients with aortoiliacal arteriosclerotic obstruction were medically treated. Preoperatively all patients were treated by Bergmann, s infusions. In our comparative study we found that the best satisfactory results were obtained by applying each of these methods on selected cases. There were 2 operative deaths.

This paper presented 6 cases of thymomas, surgically treated at the Newcastle Regional Cardiothoracic Surgical Service-England during the period 1970-1971. Excision of the tumour alone was carried-out in two patients. In the remaining four, a thymectomy and removal of the tumour was performed. In one case histological appearance suggested malignancy. The author insists upon an early excision, because the because the benign thymomas are potentially malignant tumours and the possibility of recurrence can be more effectively prevented by thymectomy at the same time. The coincidence of thyretoxicosis and thymoma, respectively aplastic anaemia and thymoma, were presented in 2 patients. To date, all patients have been well.
