ABSTRACT

Glycoprotein 2 (GP2) is an autoantigen in Crohn's (CD) and coeliac disease (CeD). We assessed GP2-isoform (GP21-4)-expression in intestinal biopsies of paediatric patients with CD, CeD, ulcerative colitis (UC), and healthy children (HC). Transcription of GP21-4 was elevated in proximal small intestine in CeD and CD patients (only GP22/4) compared to jejunum (CeD/CD) and large bowel (CD). CeD patients demonstrated higher duodenal GP22/4-mRNA levels compared to HC/UC patients whereas CD patients showed higher GP24-mRNA levels compared to UC patients. Duodenal synthesis of only small GP2 isoforms (GP23/4) was demonstrated in epithelial cells in patients/HC and in Brunner glands (also large isoforms) with a more frequent apical location in CD/CeD patients. All four GP2 isoforms interacted with gliadin and phosphopeptidomannan. Gliadin digestion improved binding to GP2 isoforms. GP21-4 binding to CeD/CD-related antigens, elevated duodenal GP21-4-mRNA transcription, and GP2-protein secretion in Brunner glands of CeD/CD patients suggest an autoimmune CeD/CD link.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVES: Inborn errors of immunity manifest with susceptibility to infection but may also present with immune dysregulation only. According to the European Society for Immunodeficiencies Registry about 50% of inborn errors of immunity are classified as common variable immunodeficiencies (CVID). In only few CVID patients are monogenic causes identified. IFN regulatory factor-2 binding protein 2 (IRF2BP2) is one of 20 known genes associated with CVID phenotypes and has only been reported in two families so far. We report another IRF2BP2-deficient patient with a novel pathogenic variant and phenotype and characterize impaired B cell function and immune dysregulation. METHODS: We performed trio whole-exome sequencing, determined B cell subpopulations and intracellular calcium mobilization upon B cell receptor crosslinking in B cells. T cell subpopulations, T cell proliferation and a type I IFN signature were measured. Colonoscopy and gastroduodenoscopy including histopathology were performed. RESULTS: The 33-year-old male presented with recurrent respiratory infections since childhood, colitis and RA beginning at age 25 years. We identified a novel de novo nonsense IRF2BP2 variant c.1618C>T; p.(Q540*). IgG deficiency was detected as consequence of a severe B cell differentiation defect. This was confirmed by impaired plasmablast formation upon stimulation with CpG. No serum autoantibodies were detected. Intracellular cytokine production in CD4+ T cells and CTLA4 expression on FOXP3+ Tregs were impaired. Type I IFN signature was elevated. CONCLUSION: The identified loss-of-function variant in IRF2BP2 severely impairs B cell development and T cell homeostasis, and may be associated with colitis and RA. Our results provide further evidence for association of IRF2BP2 with CVID and contribute to the understanding of the underlying pathomechanisms.

ABSTRACT

A highly sensitive detection of anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies to serine proteinase-3 (PR3-ANCAs) aids in the serological diagnosis of autoimmune liver disorders and the prediction of severity in primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC). Here, we evaluate a novel third-generation ELISA for the detection of PR3-ANCAs. In total, 309 patients with PSC, 51 with primary biliary cholangitis (PBC), and 120 healthy blood donors (BD) were analyzed. For the survival analysis in PSC, the outcome was defined as liver-transplantation-free survival during the follow-up. Positive PR3-ANCA levels were found in 74/309 (24.0%) of patients with PSC. No BDs and one patient with PBC demonstrated PR3-ANCA positivity. PR3-ANCAs were revealed as independent predictors for a poor PSC outcome (study endpoint: liver transplantation/death, log-rank test, p = 0.02). PR3-ANCA positivity, lower albumin levels, and higher bilirubin concentrations were independent risks of a poor survival (Cox proportional-hazards regression analysis, p < 0.05). The Mayo risk score for PSC was associated with PR3-ANCA positivity (p = 0.01) and the disease severity assessed with a model of end-stage liver disease (MELD) and extended MELD-Na (p < 0.05). PR3-ANCAs detected by a third-generation ELISA are diagnostic and prognostic markers for PSC. Their wider use could help to identify patients who are at-risk of a more severe disease.

OBJECTIVES: Anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody (ANCA) directed against proteinase 3 (PR3) is a marker for granulomatosis with polyangiitis, but is also found in patients with inflammatory bowel disease (IBD), mainly ulcerative colitis (UC). The aim of our study was to investigate ANCA and PR3-ANCA in paediatric IBD. METHODS: We tested 326 paediatric IBD patients and 164 controls for anti-Saccharomyces cerevisiae antibodies (ASCA), ANCA (indirect immunofluorescence, IIF) and PR3-ANCA (chemiluminescence immunoassay). We applied the Paris classification for paediatric IBD and documented liver manifestations such as primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC) and autoimmune hepatitis (AIH). RESULTS: We found PR3-ANCA in 49/121 (40%) of UC, 20/187 (11%) of Crohn disease (CD) and 2/18 (11%) of IBD-unclassified (IBD-U) patients but in none of the controls. 54% UC and 12% CD patients were positive for ANCA (IIF). PR3-ANCA positive UC patients were characterised by more extensive disease (P = .070). Fourteen of 21 (67%) of UC patients with backwash ileitis were anti-PR3 ANCA-positive (P = .011). We diagnosed PSC or PSC/AIH in 19 UC and 3 IBD-U patients. Fifteen of 22 (68%) patients with PSC or PSC/AIH were anti-PR3-ANCA positive in contrast to 36 of 117 (32%) patients without PSC (P = .001). PR3-ANCA positive patients showed higher levels of gamma-glutamyl transferase, alanine transaminase and aspartate transferase (P < 0.001, 0.001, 0.006, respectively). Forty-seven percent of CD and 6% of UC patients were ASCA-IgA positive. PR3-ANCA-positive and -negative patients showed no significant differences concerning age at diagnosis, disease activity, need for drugs, and number of hospitalisations. CONCLUSIONS: Our study provides data for PR3-ANCA as a potential serological marker for paediatric UC and PSC.

ABSTRACT

The relation between infections and autoimmune diseases has been extensively investigated. Multiple studies suggest a causal relation between these two entities with molecular mimicry, hyperstimulation and dysregulation of the immune system as plausible mechanisms. The recent pandemic with a new virus, i.e., SARS-CoV-2, has resulted in numerous studies addressing the potential of this virus to induce autoimmunity and, eventually, autoimmune disease. In addition, it has also revealed that pre-existing auto-immunity (auto-Abs neutralizing type I IFNs) could cause life-threatening disease. Therefore, the topic of the 15th Dresden Symposium on Autoantibodies was focused on autoimmunity in the SARS-CoV-2 era. This report is a collection and distillation of the topics presented at this meeting.

ABSTRACT

Introduction: The morphological patterns in indirect immunofluorescence assay on HEp-2 cells (HEp-2 IFA) reflect the autoantibodies in the sample. The International Consensus on ANA Patterns (ICAP) classifies 30 relevant patterns (AC-0 to AC-29). AC-4 (fine speckled nuclear pattern) is associated to anti-SS-A/Ro, anti-SS-B/La, and several autoantibodies. Anti-SS-A/Ro samples may contain antibodies to Ro60 and Ro52. A variation of AC-4 (herein designated AC-4a), characterized by myriad discrete nuclear speckles, was reported to be associated with anti-SS-A/Ro. The plain fine speckled pattern (herein designated AC-4b) seldom was associated with anti-SS-A/Ro. This study reports the experience of four expert laboratories on AC-4a and AC-4b. Methods: Anti-Ro60 monoclonal antibody A7 was used to investigate the HEp-2 IFA pattern. Records containing concomitant HEp-2 IFA and SS-A/Ro tests from Durand Laboratory, Argentina (n = 383) and Fleury Laboratory, Brazil (n = 144,471) were analyzed for associations between HEp-2 IFA patterns and disease-associated autoantibodies (DAA): double-stranded DNA, Scl-70, nucleosome, SS-B/La, Sm, and U1-RNP. A total of 381 samples from Dresden Technical University (TU-Dresden), Germany, were assayed for HEp-2 IFA and DAA. Results: Monoclonal A7 recognized Ro60 in Western blot and immunoprecipitation, and yielded the AC-4a pattern on HEp-2 IFA. Analyses from Durand Laboratory and Fleury Laboratory yielded compatible results: AC-4a was less frequent (8.9% and 2.7%, respectively) than AC-4b (26.1% and 24.2%) in HEp-2 IFA-positive samples. Reactivity to SS-A/Ro occurred in 67.6% and 96.3% of AC-4a-pattern samples against 23% and 6.8% of AC-4b pattern samples. Reciprocally, AC-4a occurred in 24% and 47.1% of anti-SS-A/Ro-positive samples, and in 3.8% and 0.1% of anti-SS-A/Ro-negative samples. Data from TU-Dresden show that the AC-4a pattern occurred in 69% of 169 anti-SS-A/Ro-monospecific samples (62% of all anti-SS-A/Ro-positive samples) and in 4% of anti-SS-A/Ro-negative samples, whereas anti-SS-A/Ro occurred in 98.3% of AC-4a samples and in 47.9% of AC-4b samples. In all laboratories, coexistence of anti-SS-B/La, but not other DAA, in anti-SS-A/Ro-positive samples did not disturb the AC-4a pattern. AC-4a was predominantly associated with anti-Ro60 antibodies. Conclusions: This study confirms the association of AC-4a pattern and anti-SS-A/Ro in opposition to the AC-4b pattern. The results of four international expert laboratories support the worldwide applicability of these AC-4 pattern variants and their incorporation into ICAP classification under codes AC-4a and AC-4b, respectively. The AC-4 pattern should be maintained as an umbrella pattern for cases in which one cannot discriminate AC-4a and AC-4b patterns. The acknowledgment of the AC-4a pattern should add value to HEp-2 IFA interpretation.

ABSTRACT

Results of the anti-nuclear antibodies-indirect immunofluorescence assay (anti-cell antibodies test) on HEp-2 cell substrates should be communicated to clinicians in a standardized way, adding value to laboratory findings and helping with critical clinical decisions. This paper proposes a test report based on the practices informed by 118 laboratories in 68 countries, with recommendations from the International Consensus on ANA Patterns (ICAP) group. Major focus is placed on the report format containing endpoint titers, immunofluorescence patterns together with anti-cell (AC) nomenclature, remarks on follow-up or reflex testing, and possible other autoantibody associations. ISO 15,189 directives were integrated into the test report. Special situations addressed include serum screening dilutions and endpoint titers, relevance of immunofluorescence patterns with special attention to cytoplasmic patterns, mixed and compound patterns, and how to report different titers corresponding to multiple patterns or autoantibodies in the same sample. This paper suggests a subtitle for the HEp-2-IIFA, namely anti-cell antibodies test, which could gradually substitute the original outdated ANA nomenclature. This ICAP pro forma report represents a further step in harmonizing the way relevant clinical information could be provided by laboratories.

ABSTRACT

Background: Inborn errors of immunity (IEI) present with a large phenotypic spectrum of disease, which can pose diagnostic and therapeutic challenges. Suppressor of cytokine signaling 1 (SOCS1) is a key negative regulator of cytokine signaling, and has recently been associated with a novel IEI. Of patients described to date, it is apparent that SOCS1 haploinsufficiency has a pleiotropic effect in humans. Objective: We sought to investigate whether dysregulation of immune pathways, in addition to STAT1, play a role in the broad clinical manifestations of SOCS1 haploinsufficiency. Methods: We assessed impacts of reduced SOCS1 expression across multiple immune cell pathways utilizing patient cells and CRISPR/Cas9 edited primary human T cells. Results: SOCS1 haploinsufficiency phenotypes straddled across the International Union of Immunological Societies classifications of IEI. We found that reduced SOCS1 expression led to dysregulation of multiple intracellular pathways in immune cells. STAT1 phosphorylation is enhanced, comparably with STAT1 gain-of-function mutations, and STAT3 phosphorylation is similarly reduced with concurrent reduction of Th17 cells. Furthermore, reduced SOCS1 E3 ligase function was associated with increased FAK1 in immune cells, and increased AKT and p70 ribosomal protein S6 kinase phosphorylation. We also found Toll-like receptor responses are increased in SOCS1 haploinsufficiency patients. Conclusions: SOCS1 haploinsufficiency is a pleiotropic monogenic IEI. Dysregulation of multiple immune cell pathways may explain the variable clinical phenotype associated with this new condition. Knowledge of these additional dysregulated immune pathways is important when considering the optimum management for SOCS1 haploinsufficient patients.

ABSTRACT

AIM: TSH-receptor (TSHR)-autoantibody (TRAb) is the serological hallmark of Graves' disease (GD). Recently, 3rd-generation radioimmunoassays (RIA) employing monoclonal TRAb such as M22 or T7 instead of TSH for the inhibition of human TRAb binding with solid-phase TSHR (coated tubes) have been introduced into laboratory routine. METHODS: As current assays typically employ a consecutive incubation of patient serum and labelled monoclonal TRAb, automation of TRAb RIA is a challenge. Thus, the assay procedure using human TSHR-coated tubes and the mouse monoclonal TRAb T7 was modified by combining both steps. The novel one-step method was compared with its corresponding consecutive 3rd-generation RIA by investigating 304 individuals encompassing 102 patients with active GD (GDa), 43 patients with GD after successful therapy (GDt), 31 with Hashimoto's disease (HD), 28 with non-autoimmune thyroid diseases (NAITD) and 100 healthy subjects (HS). RESULTS: With the new method, the incubation time was shortened by approximately one hour. Both 3rd-generation RIAs did not reveal a significantly different assay performance by comparing areas under the curve (AUC) with receiver operating characteristics curve analysis (AUC one-step: 0.94, AUC two-step: 0.96, p > 0.05, respectively). The two-step TRAb RIA demonstrated sensitivity and specificity values of 87.5 % and 96.2 %, respectively, whereas the one-step revealed 84.6 % and 96.2 %, respectively. CONCLUSION: One-step 3rd-generation RIA may be used for the reliable detection of TRAb. The shorter and easier assay design may improve its use and enable automation in routine nuclear medicine laboratories.

ABSTRACT

Special conditions associated with laboratory autoimmune testing are not well compatible with recent developments in regulatory frameworks such as EN/ISO 15189 accreditation or in vitro diagnostic medical device regulation (IVD-R). In addition, international recommendations, guidelines and disease criteria are poorly defined with respect to requirements on autoantibody testing. Laboratory specialists from Austria, Belgium, Croatia, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Italy, Norway, Poland, Portugal, South Africa, Spain, Sweden, Switzerland, and The Netherlands collected information, reported national experience, and identified quality issues in relation to autoantibody testing that require consensus on interpretation of the regulatory frameworks and guidelines. This process has been organized by the European Autoimmunity Standardisation Initiative (EASI). By identifying the critical items and looking for a consensus, our objective was to define a framework for, in particular, EN/ISO accreditation purposes. Here, we present a review of current publications and guidelines in this field to unify national guidelines and deliver in this way a European handout on quality control and accreditation for laboratories involved in autoantibody testing. We focus on quality items that can be checked during accreditation visits. Despite various local varieties, we encountered an overwhelming dedication to quality assurance in all contributing countries.

Peripheral immune-mediated polyneuropathies (IMPN) are a diverse group of rare neurological illnesses characterized by nerve damage. Leading morphological features are mostly nerve fibre demyelination or combination of axonal damage and demyelination. There has been remarkable progress in the clinical and electrophysiological categorization of acute (fulminant, life-threatening) and chronic (progressive/remitting-relapsing) immune-mediated neuropathies recently. Besides electrophysiological and morphological makers, autoantibodies against glycolipids or paranodal/nodal molecules have been recommended as candidate markers for IMPN. The progress in testing for autoantibodies (autoAbs) to glycolipids such as gangliosides and sulfatide may have significant implications on the stratification of patients and their treatment response. Thus, this topic was reviewed in a presentation held during the 1st Panhellenic Congress of Autoimmune Diseases, Rheumatology and Clinical Immunology in Portaria, Pelion, Greece. For acute IMPN, often referred to as Guillain-Barré syndrome and its variants, several serological markers including autoAbs to gangliosides and sulphatide have been employed successfully in clinical routine. However, the evolution of serological diagnosis of chronic variants, such as chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy or multifocal motor neuropathy, is less satisfactory. Serological diagnostic markers could, therefore, help in the differential diagnosis due to their assumed pathogenic role. Additionally, stratification of patients to improve their response to treatment may be possible. In general, a majority of patients respond well to causal therapy that includes intravenous immunoglobulins and plasmapheresis. As second line therapy options, biologicals (e.g., rituximab) and immunosuppressant or immunomodulatory drugs may be considered when patients do not respond adequately.

ABSTRACT

The past decade has witnessed a significant paradigm shift in the clinical approach to autoimmune diseases, lead primarily by initiatives in precision medicine, precision health and precision public health initiatives. An understanding and pragmatic implementation of these approaches require an understanding of the drivers, gaps and limitations of precision medicine. Gaining the trust of the public and patients is paramount but understanding that technologies such as artificial intelligences and machine learning still require context that can only be provided by human input or what is called augmented machine learning. The role of genomics, the microbiome and proteomics, such as autoantibody testing, requires continuing refinement through research and pragmatic approaches to their use in applied precision medicine.

ABSTRACT

Unlike in other autoimmune liver diseases such as autoimmune hepatitis and primary biliary cholangitis, the role and nature of autoantigenic targets in primary sclerosing cholangitis (PSC), a progressive, chronic, immune-mediated, life threatening, genetically predisposed, cholestatic liver illness, is poorly elucidated. Although anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibodies (ANCA) have been associated with the occurrence of PSC, their corresponding targets have not yet been identified entirely. Genome-wide association studies revealed a significant number of immune-related and even disease-modifying susceptibility loci for PSC. However, these loci did not allow discerning a clear autoimmune pattern nor do the therapy options and the male gender preponderance in PSC support a pathogenic role of autoimmune responses. Nevertheless, PSC is characterized by the co-occurrence of inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) demonstrating autoimmune responses. The identification of novel autoantigenic targets in IBD such as the major zymogen granule membrane glycoprotein 2 (GP2) or the appearance of proteinase 3 (PR3) autoantibodies (autoAbs) have refocused the interest on a putative association of loss of tolerance with the IBD phenotype and consequently with the PSC phenotype. Not surprisingly, the report of an association between GP2 IgA autoAbs and disease severity in patients with PSC gave a new impetus to autoAb research for autoimmune liver diseases. It might usher in a new era of serological research in this field. The mucosal loss of tolerance against the microbiota-sensing GP2 modulating innate and adaptive intestinal immunity and its putative role in the pathogenesis of PSC will be elaborated in this review. Furthermore, other potential PSC-related autoantigenic targets such as the neutrophil PR3 will be discussed. GP2 IgA may represent a group of new pathogenic antibodies, which share characteristics of both type 2 and 3 of antibody-mediated hypersensitive reactions according to Coombs and Gell.

ABSTRACT

BACKGROUND: Based on advances over several decades, a significant number of autoantibodies are aiding the diagnosis, differential diagnosis and even prognostic estimates of patients with connective tissue diseases (CTD). Based on cost and time constraints, multiplex assays are used more and more in routine practice. Here we describe the evaluation results of a novel spot immunoassay (SeraSpot® ANA) for multiplex analysis of the main CTD specific autoantibodies, which is based on autoantigens immobilized on microtitration plates. METHODS: For evaluation of the ANA spot immunoassay, comprising dsDNA, histone, nucleosome, Scl-70, U1-RNP (mixture of U1-RNP-A, C, and 70k), Sm (SmD), RibP (P0), Ro52/TRIM21, Ro60, La/SS-B, CENP-B, Jo-1, PM/ Scl-100, and Ku as target antigens, sera of 489 patients with systemic autoimmune rheumatic disease (SARD), sera of 54 patients with herpes virus infections, and sera of 202 apparently healthy individuals (AHI) were tested. RESULTS: The concordance between the SeraSpot and EIA results of disease specific autoantibodies (AABs) was high (94 - 97% for CENP-B, Jo-1, Scl-70, Sm, La, Ro52 and Ro60 antibodies) to moderate (86.7% for dsDNA antibodies), and no major differences in the frequency of these AABs in patients with CTD were observed. In SLE patients, the SeraSpot results of dsDNA antibodies correlate better with CLIFT results and HEp-2 cell pattern than the EIA results. The diagnostic specificities of SLE, SSc, SjS, and myositis specific AABs are very high (96.5 - 100%) compared to apparently healthy individuals, but lower with regard to serological differentiation of the SARD entities (86.6 - 99.1%). However, very high positive likelihood ratios (10 up to infinite) could be obtained by disease specific AAB profiles. CONCLUSIONS: The SeraSpot® ANA assay allows the detection of 14 AAB specificities used for the diagnosis and dif-ferentiation of CTD in one approach. Although the concordance between the SeraSpot® assay and EIA is moderate for most of the tested AAB specificities, defined AAB profiles are suitable for the correct diagnosis of the CTD entities. If time matters, the authors suggest the parallel employment of immunofluorescence on HEp-2 cells and the SeraSpot® ANA assay for screening and specific AAB determination of patients with suspected CTD.

ABSTRACT

The indirect immunofluorescence assay (IIFA) on HEp-2 cells is widely used for detection of antinuclear antibodies (ANA). The dichotomous outcome, negative or positive, is integrated in diagnostic and classification criteria for several systemic autoimmune diseases. However, the HEp-2 IIFA test has much more to offer: besides the titre or fluorescence intensity, it also provides fluorescence pattern(s). The latter include the nucleus and the cytoplasm of interphase cells as well as patterns associated with mitotic cells. The International Consensus on ANA Patterns (ICAP) initiative has previously reached consensus on the nomenclature and definitions of HEp-2 IIFA patterns. In the current paper, the ICAP consensus is presented on the clinical relevance of the 29 distinct HEp-2 IIFA patterns. This clinical relevance is primarily defined within the context of the suspected disease and includes recommendations for follow-up testing. The discussion includes how this information may benefit the clinicians in daily practice and how the knowledge can be used to further improve diagnostic and classification criteria.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: There is an increasing incidence of inflammatory bowel disease [IBD]. Autoimmune responses are involved in the pathophysiology of IBD, but their underlying pathways and target antigens have not yet been fully elucidated. METHODS: Autoantigenic targets in IBD were identified after separation of whole cell proteins isolated from neutrophils using two-dimensional electrophoresis and matrix assisted laser desorption ionization - time of flight mass spectrometry-based protein identification of the spots that displayed Western blotting signals with anti-neutrophil cytoplasmic antibody-positive sera. The prevalence of IgG, IgA and secretory IgA [sIgA] to chitinase 3-like protein 1 [CHI3L1] was analysed by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assays using recombinant CHI3L1 in 110 patients with Crohn's disease [CD], 95 with ulcerative colitis [UC], 126 with coeliac disease [CeD] and 86 healthy controls [HCs]. RESULTS: The 18-glycosylhydrolase family member CHI3L1 was identified as a neutrophil autoantigenic target. CD patients displayed significantly higher levels of IgG to CHI3L1 than patients with UC and CeD (p < 0.0001, respectively). IgA and sIgA to CHI3L1 was significantly higher in CD than in UC, CeD and HCs [p < 0.0001, respectively]. IgA and sIgA to CHI3L1 demonstrated the highest prevalence in CD [25.5%, 28/110; and 41.8%%, 46/110] compared to HCs [2.3%, 2/86; and 4.7%%, 4/86; p = 0.0015 and p < 0.0001] and are associated with a more complicated progression of CD. CONCLUSION: CHI3L1 is a novel neutrophil autoantigenic target in CD. IgA and sIgA to CHI3L1 may serve as novel markers for CD and may facilitate the serological diagnosis of IBD.

ABSTRACT

Chronic inflammatory demyelinating polyneuropathy (CIDP) is a rare immune-mediated neuropathy with demyelination of nerve fibers as leading morphological feature. The course of disease can be chronic progressive or remitting relapsing. Whereas for acute immune-mediated neuropathies several serological markers have been identified and used successfully in clinical routine, the serological diagnosis of chronic variants such as CIDP has not yet been evolved satisfactory. The typical CIDP and its various atypical variants are characterized by a certain diversity of clinical phenotype and response to treatment. Thus, diagnostic markers could aid in the differential diagnosis of CIDP variants and stratification of patients for a better treatment response. Most patients respond well to a causal therapy including steroids, intravenous immunoglobulins and plasmapheresis. Apart from electrophysiological and morphological markers, several autoantibodies have been reported as candidate markers for CIDP, including antibodies against glycolipids or paranodal/nodal molecules. The present review provides a summary of the progress in autoantibody testing in CIDP and its possible implication on the stratification of the CIDP variants and treatment response.
