ABSTRACT

With the aging population and improved methods of emergency transport, the number of surviving stroke and brain injury patients continues to increase. Aggressive rehabilitation of appropriate candidates is justified. In the period of spontaneous recovery, efforts are made to prevent fixed contractures using passive mobilization, splinting, nerve blocks, and electrical stimulation. If deformity persists and the patient is no longer recovering, operative management can help alleviate the functional and hygiene problems associated with these limb deformities.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The purpose of this study is to describe the imaging findings of tears and avulsive injuries of the gluteus medius tendon in elderly women and to evaluate the importance of diagnosis and the implications of treatment in the realm of lateral hip pain. CONCLUSION: Elderly women are susceptible to a spectrum of gluteal tendon abnormalities of the hip, notably tears and avulsive injuries of the gluteus medius tendon, that can be a cause of lateral hip pain and may be underdiagnosed or misdiagnosed. The MR imaging findings of this entity are instrumental in establishing the correct diagnosis in the setting of lateral hip pain and initiating appropriate treatment.

ABSTRACT

Reports of ring menisci are rare. This article describes a case of a congenital lateral ring meniscus and includes a literature review. The anatomy of the menisci of various vertebrates is described with an attempt to discuss the possible origin of the anomaly. Although ring menisci are asymptomatic, they are clinically significant in that they need to be differentiated from old bucket-handle tears. It is also easy to fail to visualize the intercondylar bridge between the two "horns" with conventional magnetic resonance imaging.
