ABSTRACT

Interest in creativity has increased considerably in recent decades, this represents a significant change to an area of scientific research that not so long ago was considered marginal or scientifically irrelevant. However, this growth in popularity is not always accompanied by the rigor required by scientific disciplines. The objective of this work is to try to summarize some of these difficulties and the advances in the field of the study of creativity as an area of interest for Psychology

ABSTRACT

The aim of this paper is to study the creative competence of a specific sample of secondary pupils in a multicultural and multilingual school context, taking into consideration their intellectual abilities, response style and academic performance in the different subject areas of the secondary education. The sample consists of 75 pupils at the European School of Alicante– a European Commission funded school– in their 5th year of the secondary school. . The average age is 15 years old with a range between 14 and 17 years old. 56% are male pupils; 44% female pupils. For the evaluation of their creativity, the CREA test (Corbalán, Martínez, Donolo, Alonso, Tejerina y Limiñana, 2003) has been used. This test aims at measuring creative intelligence through an indicator of generation of questions. For the evaluation of the intellectual abilities, the EFAI test (Evaluación Factorial de las Aptitudes Intelectuales; Santamaría, Arribas, Pereña & Seisdedos, 2005) has been used. This test contains different sets of questions referred to the 5 basic abilities (Spatial, Numerical, Reasoning, Verbal and Memory). It also offers measurements related to General Intelligence (Ig) and assesses the response style (Speed, Efficiency) and contains the subtest of Verbal Fluency of the PMA (Primary Mental Abilities; TEA, 2002; Thurstone & Thurstone, 1989) The academic performance was measured through the marks in core subjects and through the average mark for the 1st semester. The results indicate that there are significant relationships among some intellectual abilities, the academic performance and the creativity, which moreover seem to be modulated by the gender variable. The analysis of the variables according to the creative performance of this sample has allowed us to identify the most significant intellectual abilities related to the creative performance and to consider its implications for academic performance in general (AU)

ABSTRACT

The goal of this study is to analyse the presence of this diver-gent thinking in university students and its connection to personality styles. Sample is made up of 86 Speech Therapy and Psychology under-graduate students. The average age is 22, out of which 15.1% are male and 84.9% are female. Assessment of creativity has been achieved by using the CREA Test. (Corbalán, Martínez, Donolo, Alonso, Tejerina y Limiñana, 2003). CREA test is intended at appreciating creative intelligence by means of an indicator of question-raising within a theoretical context of problem seeking and solving. Personality styles were evaluated by using MIPS (Millon, 2001), which offers a method to measure personality styles, organized into three main dimensions: motivational goals, cognitive modes and interpersonal behaviours. Results illustrate differential creative profiles according to their creative production, showing significant relations between some of the personality variables studied and creativity. These, in turn, could provide relevant information about creative behaviours in these university students (AU)

ABSTRACT

The relationship between skin diseases and psychological factors has been well documented in scientific literature. Among the skin diseases with clear psychological component is the psoriasis. The correlation between the worsening of skin lesions and increased levels of psychopathology in response to stressful events has been described previously in this disease. However, studies comparing personality in psoriasis and normal population using objective tests have been limited and not conclusive. Purpose: To determine whether any variable of personality styles involved in the development or maintenance of psoriasis disease. Method: We compared a sample of 36 psoriasis patients with normal (non dermatological disease) population. Results: Psoriasis patients showed differences in motivational goals, cognitive and interpersonal behavior characteristic modes and a lower setting rate than the normal population. Conclusions: This study presents data supporting the existence of a personality profile different from the normal population and that could act as a risk factor for the onset and / or maintenance of psoriasis (AU)

ABSTRACT

Itching is common to many skin disorders. The relationship between skin disease and psychological variables has been widely documented in the literature. The association between the exacerbation of skin lesions and increased levels of psychopathological conditions in response to stressful events has also been described. Lichen Simplex Chronicus (LSC) is a skin disorder characterized by itching, which seems to have a marked psychological component. However, examples of empirical evidence linking this skin disorder to personality variables, as measured by standardized personality questionnaires, are relatively few so far. The objective of this research was to investigate the involvement of certain personality variables in the development of LSC. The personality profiles of 60 patients with LSC were compared to a normative sample of the normal Spanish population, who were free of any kind of skin disease. The personality variables for the LSC group were obtained by administering the Millon Index of Personality Styles (MIPS). Participants with LSC presented personality characteristics that differed from the control group. The most significant variables were as follows: greater tendency to pain-avoidance, greater dependency on other peoples' desires, and more conforming and dutiful compared to the control group. Results are discussed in the light of other dermatological pathologies that might share some characteristics with LSC subjects. Lichen simplex chronicus patients may present differential personality characteristics that could be related to triggering and exacerbating skin lesions. Therefore, it is relevant to evaluate the personality profiles of these people to increase treatment efficiency.

ABSTRACT

The unexpected birth of a son with a chronic malformation such as cleft and lip palate has an enormous impact on family dynamics and the psychological organization of the parents. This study tries to give account of some of these aspects in a sample of 36 parents of children with a diagnosis of cleft lip and palate. Coping strategies in these parents and their personality styles, allow us to describe stable ways of response on individuals that can be excellent indicators of the way in which parents confront this new reality, as well as of its effects on the medium and long terms
