ABSTRACT
BACKGROUND. Applying international guidelines and standardized nursing procedures in Spain might not be suitable or feasible, because of different health system, strategies and financing resources. This called for developing our local nursing procedures and disseminates them in between our nursing staff. We present evidence- and consensus-based nursing procedures developed by Primary Health Care Districts of the Andalusian Health Service for patients subjected to cholecystectomy in ambulatory major surgery. METHODOLOGY. Practice guidelines together with articles related to home needs and life habits of patients subjected to cholecystectomy were reviewed. Thereafter, we developed rapid guidelines for patients based on the common recommendations according to published guidelines and related articles. Recommendations without sufficient evidence were subjected to expert census (RAND/UCLA Appropriateness Method). RESULTS. A rapid guidelines with 21 recommendations for patients subjected to cholecystectomy in ambulatory major surgery was developed. These guidelines were structured by the needs of the patient according to Virginia Henderson Model: Respiration (2), Alimentation (4), excretion (2), hygiene and dressing (3), physical activity and exercise (5), process management and treatment (2), wound care (3).Conclusions: Rapid guidelines which summarize the different recommendations are useful applicable tool for patients subjected to cholecystectomy in ambulatory major surgery. The consensus of experts could complete the recommendations in case of lack of evidence and raise the need for future studies (AU)
