ABSTRACT
We report the demonstration of an optical-frequency comb generator based on a monolithically integrated ring laser fabricated in a multiproject wafer run in an active/passive integration process in a generic foundry using standardized building blocks. The device is based on a passive mode-locked ring laser architecture, which includes a Mach-Zehnder interferometer to flatten the spectral shape of the comb output. This structure allows monolithic integration with other optical components, such as optical filters for wavelength selection, or dual wavelength lasers for their stabilization. The results show a -10 dB span of the optical comb of 8.7 nm (1.08 THz), with comb spacing of 10.16 GHz. We also obtain a flatness of 44 lines within a 1.8 dB power variation.
ABSTRACT
Tonsillar malignancies are frequently diagnosed as peritonsillar cellulitis or abscess until the tumor's growth is evident. The suspicion must arise when there is persistent and asymmetric tonsillar growth without fever. The presence of affected regional lymph nodes is of bad prognosis. A pediatric case is discussed, and recent reports are reviewed.

Systemic toxocariasis generally causes fever, liver enlargement and lymph node swelling. This is an unusual case report which was initially confused with juvenile rheumatoid arthritis due to the presence of fever, arthralgias, arthritis of the smaller joints, important leukocytosis and hypergammaglobulinemia, besides testing positive for rheumatoid factor type IgM. After finding severe eosinophilia in both the patient's blood as well as in the bone marrow, systemic toxocariasis was diagnosed also finding very high levels of antibodies against Toxocara canis using the ELISA technique. Briefly discussed are the clinical and laboratory data, and the management of systemic toxocariasis and the possible origin of the rheumatoid factor in this disease.

Costovertebral dysplasia is characterized by dysmorphic dwarfism at the expense of the trunk, with typical costal and vertebral anomalies that cause displacement of the intrathoracic and intra-abdominal organs and reduced pulmonary function. There is a recessive severe variety manifested in the newborn and a rare dominant form which is more benign.
