ABSTRACT

The nasolabial flap is one of the most ancient techniques used in orofacial surgery. The authors report two cases of patients with skin cancer treated surgically with variations of the classic nasolabial flap by transposition (bilateral and folded) that highlight the broad applicability of this technique.

ABSTRACT

A 50-year-old man presented with a scaly erythema of the face, upper chest, forearms, and dorsum of the hands. He has been treated with cyamemazine for 6 months. Photopatch tests were performed and the patient was diagnosed with photoallergic reaction to cyamemazine. The drug was discontinued and a course of oral steroids was prescribed. The patient was advised to avoid light exposure. There has been no evidence of recurrence during a six-month follow-up period. Photoallergic reactions are much less frequent than phototoxic disorders. It is well known that several drugs including neuroleptics of the phenothiazine family may produce a skin eruption on light-exposed areas by dose-dependent (phototoxic) or photoallergic mechanisms. It is believed that photopatch testing, which is the clinical investigation of choice for suspected photoallergic reactions, is significantly underused in Europe and probably world-wide.

ABSTRACT

Complications may arise after laser therapy of the face. The most common ones are bleeding and infections; facial nerve paresis or paralysis is rarely reported. We describe a case of a transient peripheral facial nerve paralysis after laser therapy of an epidermal verrucous nevus localized at the left preauricular area.

ABSTRACT

Hidradenoma papilliferum is a rare tumor that occurs almost exclusively in females on the anogenital area. Rare cases of ectopic (nongenital) hidradenoma papilliferum have been described. The lesions usually present as an asymptomatic slow-growing, red, firm, mobile, well-delimitated nodule that grows for a long time before resection. We describe a case of an 26-year-old man that presented with an enlarging nodule on his right eyelid. The histological findings revealed a hidradenoma papilliferum. So far, among the very few reports of ectopic hidradenoma papilliferum, only a very small number were localized to the eyelid.

ABSTRACT

The goal of the present paper is to clarify the features of medical records, underscoring their importance in the establishment of a good relationship between physicians and patients, as well as to determine the advantages, difficulties and steps concerning their elaboration. The lack of record files and the problems that this fact may entail are pointed out. Appropriate files are particularly useful in planning and implementing a system of information through which one could take a variety of advantages, such as: assessment of the professional work done, possibility of having the population’s main health indicators, physician's defense and clinical discussions. The importance of the correct fuifilment of the patient record is recognized, especially for the qualitative improvement of information in the health care system. It also allows for a broader access to data when necessary, including the integration of various information centers in the country. Therefore, one concludes that this tool certainly improves the quality of medical assistance, protecting health workers from troublesome sueing.
