ABSTRACT

Cushing's ulcus is an uncommon disease occurring during the regression of acute neurologic diseases. It counts for 30 p.c. of causes of acute digestive hemorrhages in children. Prognosis is very bad and any surgical treatment has to be as preservative as possible, classically achieving a hemostatic ligation associated with a pyloroplasty and a truncal vagotomy. Mortality rate is 20 p.c.

ABSTRACT

Malnutrition is frequent in the north of Ivory Coast, catching 63,7% of the children admitted in the Korhogo hospital, 39% of the children in the out-patients services, 25% of the children living in villages and 6,9% of the admitted adults. We note animal protein and lipid deficiencies mainly. Syndrome of protein deficiency is very well known, but lipid deficiency is less; its responsibility in peripheral neuropathy, as hypothesis, is recalled. Fish and butcher's meat protein consumption remains stable, because of the economic context. Hunting meat consumption remains stable and important. Lipid intake is also under economic and cultural constraints. Development projects, and difficulties are briefly exposed.

ABSTRACT

A double-blind multicentre study was undertaken in French-speaking African countries, using parallel series in 34 SC homozygous or double-heterozygous subjects suffering from vasculo-occlusive sickling crisis. In the patients treated with dihydroergotoxine, there was a reduction in the duration of the episodes by 43 hours, i.e. more than one quarter of the total duration. This decrease was statistically significant (p is less than 0.05).
