TradReg 2013: regulation of herbal and traditional medicinal products--European and global strategies--international symposium.

Plants have always been an important source of treatment. The important contribution of phytotherapy became particularly recognised through European Directive 2004/24/EC (Directive 2004/24/EC, 2004), which set up a new Committee dedicated to herbal medicinal products at the European Medicines Agency (EMA). In addition, it created a new status for traditional herbal medicinal products by making possible their simplified "registration" based on plausible level of efficacy. Nearly 10 years after the creation of this new framework, an impressive number of monographs were established. However, implementation remains a challenge. There is also a critical need to encourage innovation and research and to ensure that new pieces of legislation are applied to herbal medicinal products taking due account of their characteristics. This article reflects the concerns and expectations of the European manufacturers of herbal medicines.

El Proyecto TESEMED: aprender en las farmacias comunitarias utilizando la telemática / The TESEMED Project: learning in community pharmacies using telematics

Lo información poro los profesionales de lo salud en formato electrónico presento múltiples aplicaciones. Los medios electrónicos permiten de un modo sencillo acceder o lo información, compartir conocimientos y divulgar experiencias. Objetivos: TESEMED I y II son proyectos de investigación financiados por lo Comisión Europeo, cuyos objetivos son el desarrollo, pruebo e implantación de aplicaciones telemáticas en los farmacias comunitarias europeas. Métodos y Resultados: Uno de los aplicaciones de TESEMED está destinado o lo formación de los farmacéuticos en el abordaje y tratamiento de los trastornos menores. Está formado por tres elementos complementarios: un hipertexto electrónico, elaborado o partir de un protocolo de actuación; un esquema interactivo con un árbol de decisión; y un simulador de lo interacción entre el farmacéutico y el paciente, uno herramienta de entrenamiento que reposo los distintos aspectos de lo entrevisto clínica. Conclusión: Lo aplicación poro farmacéuticos comunitarios TESEMED es un nuevo sistema virtual de información y formación poro el abordaje de los trastornos menores por porte de los farmacéuticos comunitarios. Los farmacéuticos pueden beneficiarse enormemente del uso de lo telemática poro mejorar su formación, y que les permite superar lo dispersión geográfica, los largos desplazamientos y lo escasez de tiempo (AU)

The information for the health professionals in electronic format presents manifold applications. The electronic media allows a simple way to access the information, to share the knowledge and to disclose experiences. Objectives: TESEMED I and II are research projects funded by European Commission, whose objectives are the development, testing, and implementation of telematics applications in the European community pharmacies. Methods and Results: One of the applications of TESEMED is destined to the continuing education of the pharmacists in the boarding and processing of the minor ailments. It is formed by three complementary modules: An electronic hypertext, created from a procedure guideline; an interactive scheme with a decision tree; and a simulator of the interaction between the pharmacist and the patient, a training tool that reviews the different aspects of the clinical encounter. Conclusion: The TESEMED application for community pharmacists is a new virtual system of information and education for the boarding of the minor aliments by the community pharmacist. The pharmacists can benefit enormously from the use of telematics to improve their education, since it allows them to surpass the geographic dispersion, the long travels and the shortage of time (AU)
