ABSTRACT

The authors supervised the case record of 51 patients admitted between 1994 January and 1996 March suffering from acute pancreatitis. Diagnosis was made upon clinical signs, laboratory findings, abdominal ultrasound and CT examinations. In total 121 CT examinations were made mostly by using contrast material. Patients were classified with the help of Balthazar's grade. The authors emphasize that CT currently is the most accurate single imaging modality for diagnosis, staging the severity of the inflammatory process, and detecting complications of acute pancreatitis. They suggest that the first CT examination should be done within 3 days from the onset of the illness. In cases falling under group "C", "D" or "E" of Balthazar's grade, the CT examination should at least be repeated within 10 days. With 6 patients in septic state the bacteriological findings gained by fine needle aspiration was of great value for the further treatment.

ABSTRACT

Staging of lung cancer place significant role in the prognosis and treatment of the disease. Beside bronchoscopy, CT one of the important method for the tumor staging. 135 CT examinations with diagnosis of suspected lung cancer were evaluated and radiologic diagnosis was compared with the cyto-histological and surgical results. In 112 cases both CT and histological diagnosis were performed: both method revealed malignant tumors in 108 cases. Five lesions were regarded as tumour by CT but histological result proved aspergilloma, or specific processes. Abnormal lymph nodes were recognised at 98 tumours patients. There was a good correlation-regarding the number, size measurement-between CT and surgery. Histological diagnosis proved that all of the lymph nodes larger, then 2 cm of diameter contained metastic cells. In the 1-2 cm size almost all of the lymph nodes were metastatic. In addition tumour cells were found in some lymph nodes smaller, than 1 cm, too. This gives warning sign: smaller lymph nodes need more attention than we assumed. CT prove to be confident method for the evaluation, measurement and localisation of the tumours and lymph nodes in the chest.

ABSTRACT

Authors present the parts of the shoulder that can be represented by ultrasound. Beside the rotator cuff of accentuated significance (within this, first of all the tendon of the supraspinatus muscle) the subacromial bursa, the tendon of the long head of the biceps, the muscle-tendon junction of the infraspinatus muscle are analysed. It is stated that the ultrasonography is suitable for a reliable representation of the soft tissues, surrounding the shoulder joint, further in possession of literary data they see possibility for a very exact judgement of the pathological alterations, too.

ABSTRACT

54 knee joints clinically suspicious of presenting a lesion were examined. The ultrasound examination proved to be of great value in disclosing both anatomical details and lesions. Our results closely correlate with the abnormalities found at operation. We agree with literature that ultrasound method is adequate for diagnosing abnormalities in the knee. This method has been recommended as first choice for in many cases it fields a final diagnosis.

ABSTRACT

Authors show the structures of the knee joint that can be demonstrated by ultrasound. It is stated that in normal circumstances the tendons, the collateral ligaments, the bursae and Hoffa's fat tissue can be easily brought in the visual field. The demonstration of the single parts of the menisci and the cruciate ligaments is more difficult in certain cases (bulky knee, contracture, progressed gonarthrosis). Corresponding to the literary data and on the basis of their results they conclude that the ultrasound is suitable to the correct demonstration of the complicated anatomy of the knee. The examination is noninvasive, it can be repeated any time and with adequate experience it gives possibility to recognise the changes in the knee joint.
