Central Retinal Vein Occlusion Presumably Associated with Lupus Anticoagulant Induced by SARSCoV-2.

PURPOSE: To report a case of unilateral central retinal vein occlusion (CRVO) and macular edema presumably associated with lupus anticoagulant (LA) induced by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS CoV-2). METHOD: Case report. RESULTS: A 32-year-old male patient presented to the emergency department with a 5-day history of blurry vision. He was diagnosed with a CRVO and macular edema. The only pathological finding was positive LA which could have been induced by his recent confirmed SARS CoV-2 infection. The patient's evolution was satisfactory after two injections of Intravitreal dexamethasone (Ozurdex®), with improvement in macular edema and visual acuity. CONCLUSION: COVID-19 may be associated to retinal vascular occlusive disorders. Transient virus-induced LA might play a role in the pathogenesis of the thrombotic event.

Epiretinal Membrane Peeling as the Treatment for Macular Edema Associated with Isolated Retinal Astrocytic Hamartoma.

PURPOSE: To report a case of macular edema and an epiretinal membrane in an isolated astrocytic hamartoma treated surgically. METHODS: Case report. RESULTS: We describe the case of a 37-year-old woman whose first symptoms were blurred vision and metamorphopsia. Optical coherence tomography revealed macular edema together with an epiretinal membrane secondary to an isolated retinal astrocytic hamartoma. We performed a pars plana vitrectomy (PPV) with membrane peeling. Both visual and structural outcomes were satisfactory. Complete resolution of symptoms was obtained, and visual acuity was preserved after a 7-month follow-up. CONCLUSION: Although rare, epiretinal membrane may be present in isolated retinal astrocytic hamartomas, PPV and epiretinal membrane peeling may be a good treatment option in glial tumors with macular edema associated with an epiretinal membrane.
