ABSTRACT

More than 410 kinds of prescriptions of medicines were presented, some of which were collected in Shennong Bencao Jing(, Shennong's Classic of Materia Medica) and other herbal works, are included in Lu Zhiyi's Bencao Chengya Banji(). He introduced the indications of these medicines by focusing on the name of the herbs, or the species of them, and the features and growth morphology of the herbs. He abstracted the efficacy of drugs on the human body. Therefore, he noted the indications of all the medicines list in the book.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this paper is to study the correlation between the cardiac output index value and the prognosis of patients with heart disease with the help of Pulse-induced Contour Cardiac Output (PICCO) and computed tomography (CT). Three hundred eighteen patients with pathologically confirmed heart disease were selected as study subjects. The Sime ns Av anto 1.6T type superconducting magnetic resonance meter and GE Light Speed Pro 48 slice spiral CT were used for the phased array coil scanning and enhanced scanning, respectively and to analyze the relationship between the cardiac output index value and prognosis in patients with heart disease with the help of PICCO and CT. The accuracy rates of PICCO and CT in determining the cardiac output index of heart disease were 93.2% and 76.1%, respectively, which were significantly different (P less than 0.05). The coincidence rate between the results of the cardiac output index and pathological results of heart disease from PICCO and CT were 57.6%and 54.7%, respectively. According to the χ2 test results, the diagnostic results of PICCO were consistent with the pathological results of the heart disease group (Kappa = 0.039, 0.496, P less than 0.05). The coincidence rate for the five-year survival rate of PICCO/CT with the total survival rate and the results of the patients were 56.7% and 43.8%, respectively. The coincidence rate of PICCO and CT diagnosis results with the cardiac output index values, as well as prognosis results, was high. In judging the value of the cardiac output index and the prognosis of patients with heart disease, PICCO was superior to CT. The diagnostic results of PICCO have a strong correlation with the pathological results, therefore, PICCO can be used to accurately determine the cardiac output index and the prognoses of patients with heart disease.

ABSTRACT

The insertion/deletion polymorphism (rs3783553 TTCA/-) in the 3' untranslated region of interleukin-1A (IL1A) has been studied intensively and has been shown to affect tumor risk. We studied the frequency of the IL1A gene polymorphism rs3783553 and evaluated its relationship with breast cancer (BC). A hospital-based case-control study comprising 228 patients with histologically confirmed BC and 241 healthy subjects was conducted. Polymerase chain reaction was used to detect the IL1A rs3783553 polymorphism. The ins/ins (ttca/ttca) genotype was significantly associated with a decreased risk of BC compared with the del/del (-/-) genotype (OR = 0.48, 95% CI = 0.27-0.85). Moreover, the ins (ttca) allele distribution between cases and controls was significantly different from the del (-) allele distribution (OR = 0.74, 95% CI = 0.57-0.96). Thus, the rs3783553 polymorphism is associated with a decreased incidence of breast cancer.

ABSTRACT

Breast cancer (BC) is a common malignancy affecting women, with increasing incidences of this disease in China every year. Recent studies have extensively investigated a single nucleotide polymorphism in the let-7 miRNA binding site of the 3'-untranslated region of KRAS mRNA. The aim of this study was to determine the genotype frequency of the KRAS rs712 polymorphism, and evaluate its effect on BC risk. This hospital-based case-control study comprised 228 patients with histologically confirmed BC and 251 healthy controls. The let-7a KRAS rs712 polymorphism was analyzed by polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism. We observed no statistically significant association between BC risk and the let-7a KRAS rs712 polymorphism (GT vs GG, OR = 0.98, 95%CI = 0.66-1.46; TT vs GG, OR = 0.78, 95%CI = 0.28-2.21). However, the rs712 polymorphism was significantly associated with the N status of BC patients (GG vs GT/TT, OR = 0.52, 95%CI = 0.30- 0.92; G allele vs T allele, OR = 0.60, 95%CI = 0.37-0.97). We found no association between the let-7 rs712 polymorphism and BC risk. However, the let-7 rs712 G/T polymorphism was discovered to play a potential role in BC tumor metastasis; therefore, it may be employed as a new biomarker or therapy targeted towards resistant tumor metastasis.

ABSTRACT

The recent ban on the use of antibiotics as a feed additive has led to the search for alternative sources of antibiotics in the feed industry. Presently, probiotics are considered as a potential substitute for antibiotic as a live biotherapeutic agent to improve animal health and performance. Accordingly, study was focused on evaluating the effect of Saccharomyces boulardii (Sb) and Bacillus subtilis B10 (Bs) on ultrastructure modulation and mucosal immunity development in broiler chickens. A total of three hundred 1-d-old Sanhuang broilers (a Chinese cross breed) were randomized into 3 groups, each group with 5 replications (n = 20). The control group (Ctr) was fed a basal diet containing an antibiotic (virginiamycin, 20 mg/kg). Meanwhile, broilers in experimental groups received Sb and Bs (1 × 10(8) cfu/kg of feed) in addition to the basal diet for 72 d. The results of the experimental groups revealed a significant improvement in live BW and relative weight of bursa of Fabricius and thymus. Also, intestinal villus height, width, and number of goblet cells increased in the Sb and Bs groups. Meanwhile, modulation in the intestinal ultrastructure and increased mRNA expression levels of occluding, cloudin2, and cloudin3 (P < 0.05) were observed in the Sb and Bs groups. Moreover, IgA-positive cells significantly increased in the jejunum of Sb- and Bs-supplemented groups (P < 0.05). Intestinal cytokines interleukin-6, tumor necrosis factor-α, interleukin-10, transforming growth factor-ß, and secretory IgA concentrations were (P < 0.05) improved in the probiotic groups; however, Sb induced inflammatory and antiinflammatory cytokines (P < 0.05) in comparison with the Ctr group. The present findings conclusively revealed that Sb and Bs increased IgA-positive cells in the lumen of the intestinal villus and revealed that Sb and Bs could modulate intestinal ultrastructure through increasing occluding, cloudin2, and cloudin3 mRNA expression levels in broiler intestine.
