ABSTRACT

Cryptosporidium infection is a common occurrence in rodents worldwide. In this study, 435 wild brown rats were captured from an animal feedlot in Xinjiang, China, with a fecal sample obtained directly from the rectal contents of each rat. The DNA extracted from these fecal samples was analyzed for Cryptosporidium spp. using PCR targeting the SSU rRNA gene. The prevalence of Cryptosporidium infection in brown rats was found to be 5.5% (24 out of 435). Interestingly, the infection rates varied among different animal enclosures, with rates of 0% in the chicken coop (0/51), cowshed (0/3), and varying rates in other areas including the sheepfold (6.1%, 6/98), the pigsty (7.6%, 10/132), the dovecote (7.0%, 5/71), and outdoor environments (3.8%, 3/80). The study identified three species and one genotype of Cryptosporidium, namely C. occultus (n = 10), C. parvum (n = 4), C. ditrichi (n = 1), and Cryptosporidium rat genotype IV (n = 9). Additionally, two of the C. parvum isolates were successfully subtyped as IIdA19G1 (n = 2) at the gp60 gene. These results offer valuable insights into the prevalence and genetic diversity of Cryptosporidium in brown rats within the region.

ABSTRACT

Background: Osteomyelitis (OM) is an inflammatory condition of bone characterized by cortical bone devascularization and necrosis. Dysregulation of bone remodelling is triggered by OM. Bone remodelling is precisely coordinated by bone resorption and formation via a reversal phase. However, the cellular and molecular mechanisms underlying bone remodelling failure after osteomyelitis remain elusive. Methods: To elucidate the cellular and molecular mechanism underlying bone healing after osteomyelitis, we employed single-cell RNA sequencing (scRNA-seq) to depict the atlas of human cortical bone in normal, infected and reconstructed states. Dimensionality reduction by t-stochastic neighbourhood embedding (t-SNE) and graph-based clustering were applied to analyse the detailed clusters of osteoclast lineages. After trajectory analysis of osteoclast lineages over pseudotime, real-time PCR and immunofluorescence (IF) staining were applied to identify marker gene expression of various osteoclast lineages in the osteoclast induction model and human bone sections, respectively. The potential function and communication of osteoclasts were analysed via gene set enrichment analysis (GSEA) and CellChat. The chemotactic ability of mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) and osteoclast lineage cells in various differentiation states was determined by transwell assays and coculture assays. The effects of various osteoclast lineages on the osteogenic differentiation potential of MSCs were also determined by using this coculture system. A normal mouse tibia fracture model and an osteomyelitis-related tibia fracture model were generated via injection of luciferase-labelled Staphylococcus aureus to verify the relationships between a novel osteoclast lineage and MSCs. Then, the infection was detected by a bioluminescence imaging system. Finally, immunofluorescence staining was used to detect the expression of markers of MSCs and novel osteoclast lineages in different remodelling phases in normal and infected bone remodelling models. Results: In this study, we constructed a cell atlas encompassing normal, infected, and reconstructed cortical bone. Then, we identified a novel subset at the earlier stage of the osteoclast lineage that exhibited increased expression of IDO1, CCL3, and CCL4. These IDO1highCCL3highCCL4high cells, termed osteostaticytes (OSCs), were further regarded as the reservoir of osteoclasts in the reversal phase. Notably, OSCs exhibited the highest chemotactic activity, surpassing other lineage subsets. We also discovered that cells at the earlier stage of the osteoclast lineage play a significant role in recruiting mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs). Finally, the data revealed that OSCs might be positively related to the occurrence of bone MSCs and the contribution of bone remodelling. Conclusion: Collectively, our findings revealed a novel stage (OSC) within the osteoclast lineage, potentially representing elusive bone reversal cells due to its increased chemotactic ability towards MSCs and potential contribution to bone remodelling. This study provides valuable insights into the intricate mechanisms of the reversal phase during bone remodelling and unveils potential therapeutic strategies for diseases associated with bone uncoupling. Translational potential of this article: This study identified a new subset, referred to as IDO1(plus symbol) CCL3(plus symbol) CCL4(plus symbol) osteostaticytes which displayed the highest chemotactic activity among all osteoclast lineages and may serve as reversal cells in bone remodelling. These findings offer new insights and insights for understanding bone reversal-related diseases and may serve as novel therapeutic targets for conditions such as osteomyelitis and delayed bone healing.

Although trait and state rumination play a central role in the exacerbation of negative affect, evidence suggests that they are weakly correlated and exert distinct influences on emotional reactivity to stressors. Whether trait and state rumination share a common or exhibit distinct neural substrate remains unclear. In this study, we utilized functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) combined with connectome-based predictive modeling (CPM) to identify neural fingerprints associated with trait and state rumination. CPM identified distinctive functional connectivity (FC) profiles that contribute to the prediction of trait rumination, primarily involving FC within the default mode network (DMN) and the dorsal attention network (DAN) as well as FC between the DMN, control network (CN), DAN, and salience network (SN). Conversely, state rumination was predominantly associated with FC between the DMN and CN. Furthermore, the predictive features of trait rumination can be robustly generalized to predict state rumination, and vice versa. In conclusion, this study illuminates the importance of both DMN and non-DMN systems in the emergence and persistence of rumination. While trait rumination was associated with stronger and broader FC than state rumination, the generalizability of the predictive features underscores the presence of shared neural mechanisms between the two forms of rumination. These identified connectivity fingerprints may hold promise as targets for innovative therapeutic interventions aimed at mitigating rumination-related negative affect.

BACKGROUND: However, the connection between smoking and the prognosis of patients with bladder cancer remains unclear. AIM: To determine whether smoking is linked to the recurrence and progression of bladder cancer. METHODS: As of July 20, 2022, relevant English-language research was identified by searching PubMed, the Web of Science, and the Cochrane Library. We pooled the available data from the included studies using a random effects model. Subgroup analysis and sensitivity analysis were also conducted. RESULTS: A total of 12 studies were included in this meta-analysis. The combined analysis revealed that tobacco exposure was associated with a significantly greater recurrence rate than nonsmoking status [odd ratios (OR) = 1.76, 95%CI: 1.84-2.93], and the progression of bladder cancer was significantly greater in smokers than in nonsmokers (OR = 1.21, 95%CI: 1.02-1.44). Stratified analysis further revealed that current smokers were more likely to experience relapse than never-smokers were (OR = 1.85, 95%CI: 1.11-3.07). Former smokers also had a greater risk of relapse than did never-smokers (OR = 1.73, 95%CI: 1.09-2.73). Subgroup analysis indicated that non-Caucasians may be more susceptible to bladder cancer recurrence than Caucasians are (OR = 2.13, 95%CI: 1.74-2.61). CONCLUSION: This meta-analysis revealed that tobacco exposure may be a significant risk factor for both the recurrence and progression of bladder cancer.

Toxoplasma gondii is an important protozoan pathogen, which can cause severe diseases in the newborns and immunocompromised individuals. Developing an effective vaccine against Toxoplasma infection is a critically important global health priority. Immunofluorescence staining analysis revealed that TgSAG2 and TgSRS2 are membrane associated and displayed on the surface of the parasite. Immunizations with pBud-SAG2, pBud-SRS2 and pBud-SAG2-SRS2 DNA vaccines significantly increased the production of specific IgG antibodies. Immunization with pBud-SAG2-SRS2 elicited cellular immune response with higher concentrations of IFN-γ and IL-4 compared to the control group. Antigen-specific lymphocyte proliferations in the pBud-SRS2 and pBud-SAG2-SRS2 groups were significantly higher compared to that in the control group. Furthermore, 30 % of mice immunized with pBud-SAG2-SRS2 survived after the challenge infection with virulent T. gondii RH tachyzoites. This study revealed that immunization with pBud-SAG2-SRS2 induced potent immune responses, and has the potential as a promising vaccine candidate for the control of T. gondii infection.

ABSTRACT

Background: Previous studies on the association between diet quality and ovarian cancer (OC) survival are limited and inconsistent. We evaluated the relationship between pre- and post-diagnosis diet quality based on the Healthy Eating Index-2020 (HEI-2020), as well as their changes and OC survival. Methods: This prospective cohort study involved 1082 patients with OC aged 18-79 years, enrolled between 2015 and 2022. Detailed dietary intake before and after diagnosis was recorded using a validated food frequency questionnaire. Deaths were ascertained until February 16th, 2023 via medical records and active follow-up. Cox proportional hazards regression models were used to estimate hazard ratios (HRs) and 95% confidence intervals (CI). Results: We included 549 OC cases with a median follow-up of 44.9 months, representing 206 total deaths. Higher HEI scores were associated with better OS (pre-diagnosis: HRT3 vs. T1 0.66, 95%CI: 0.46-0.93, HR1-SD 0.84, 95%CI: 0.73-0.96; post-diagnosis: HRT3 vs. T1 0.68, 95%CI: 0.49-0.96, HR1-SD 0.80, 95%CI: 0.69-0.92). Compared to the stable group, the group with decreased HEI scores (>3%) from pre- to post-diagnosis had worse OS (HR 1.93, 95%CI: 1.26-2.97). Conclusion: High pre- and post-diagnosis diet quality was associated with improved OC survival, whereas deterioration in diet quality after diagnosis was associated with decreased OC survival.

ABSTRACT

Landauer's principle shows that the minimum energy cost to reset a classical bit in a bath with temperature T is k_{B}Tln2 in the infinite time. However, the task to reset the bit in finite time has posted a new challenge, especially for quantum bit (qubit) where both the operation time and controllability are limited. We design a shortcut-to-isothermal scheme to reset a qubit in finite time τ with limited controllability. The energy cost is minimized with the optimal control scheme with and without bound. This optimal control scheme can provide a reference to realize qubit reset with minimum energy cost for the limited time.

BACKGROUND: Integrating conventional ultrasound features with 2D shear wave elastography (2D-SWE) can potentially enhance preoperative hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) predictions. AIM: To develop a 2D-SWE-based predictive model for preoperative identification of HCC. METHODS: A retrospective analysis of 884 patients who underwent liver resection and pathology evaluation from February 2021 to August 2023 was conducted at the Oriental Hepatobiliary Surgery Hospital. The patients were divided into the modeling group (n = 720) and the control group (n = 164). The study included conventional ultrasound, 2D-SWE, and preoperative laboratory tests. Multiple logistic regression was used to identify independent predictive factors for malignant liver lesions, which were then depicted as nomograms. RESULTS: In the modeling group analysis, maximal elasticity (Emax) of tumors and their peripheries, platelet count, cirrhosis, and blood flow were independent risk indicators for malignancies. These factors yielded an area under the curve of 0.77 (95% confidence interval: 0.73-0.81) with 84% sensitivity and 61% specificity. The model demonstrated good calibration in both the construction and validation cohorts, as shown by the calibration graph and Hosmer-Lemeshow test (P = 0.683 and P = 0.658, respectively). Additionally, the mean elasticity (Emean) of the tumor periphery was identified as a risk factor for microvascular invasion (MVI) in malignant liver tumors (P = 0.003). Patients receiving antiviral treatment differed significantly in platelet count (P = 0.002), Emax of tumors (P = 0.033), Emean of tumors (P = 0.042), Emax at tumor periphery (P < 0.001), and Emean at tumor periphery (P = 0.003). CONCLUSION: 2D-SWE's hardness value serves as a valuable marker for enhancing the preoperative diagnosis of malignant liver lesions, correlating significantly with MVI and antiviral treatment efficacy.

ABSTRACT

Toxoplasma gondii (T. gondii) is an intracellular protozoan that can cause toxoplasmosis in all warm-blooded hosts. This study focused on the prevalence and genetic characterize of T. gondii in ducks from Fujian province, China. Genomic DNA was extracted from duck tissue samples (heart, liver, lung, and muscle). To assess the genetic diversity of the T. gondii isolates, it was determined by using multilocus polymerase chain reaction-restriction fragment length polymorphism (PCR-RFLP) technology. A total of 586 ducks from 5 cities in Fujian province were tested, and 35 (6.0%) of which were found to be positive for the T. gondii B1 gene. Further genotyping of these positive samples at 10 genetic markers (SAG1, SAG2, SAG3, BTUB, GRA6, c22-8, c29-2, L358, PK1, and Apico) using PCR-RFLP revealed that one tissue samples (heart samples from Fuzhou ducks) were identified as Type I (ToxoDB#10). This study is the first report on the prevalence and genetic characterization of T. gondii in ducks in Fujian province, and Type I (ToxoDB#10) is found in ducks in China for the first time. The findings document the genetic characterization of T. gondii in free-range ducks from Fujian Province, thereby enriching the understanding of T. gondii genetic diversity in China. Moreover, these results provide essential data support for further prospective studies and underscores the "One Health" concept, emphasizing the integral link among human, animal, and environmental health.

ABSTRACT

Hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) is one of the most prevalent and deadly tumors; however, its pathogenic mechanism remains largely elusive. In-depth researches are needed to reveal the expression regulatory mechanisms and functions of the RNA-binding protein RALY in HCC. Here, we identify RALY as a highly expressed oncogenic factor that affects HCC cells proliferation both in vitro and in vivo. O-GlcNAcylation of RALY at Ser176 enhances its stability by protecting RALY from TRIM27-mediated ubiquitination, thus maintaining hyper-expression of the RALY protein. Mechanistically, RALY interacts with USP22 messenger RNA, as revealed by RNA immunoprecipitation, to increase their cytoplasmic localization and protein expression, thereby promoting the proliferation of HCC cells. Furthermore, we develop a novel RALY protein degrader based on peptide proteolysis-targeting chimeras, named RALY-PROTAC, which we chemically synthesize by linking a RALY-targeting peptide with the E3 ubiquitin ligase recruitment ligand pomalidomide. In conclusion, our findings demonstrate a novel mechanism by which O-GlcNAcylation/RALY/USP22 mRNA axis aggravates HCC cells proliferation. RALY-PROTACs as degraders of the RALY protein exhibit potential as therapeutic drugs for RALY-overexpressing HCC.

ABSTRACT

Hsp90α, a pivotal canonical chaperone, is renowned for its broad interaction with numerous protein clients to maintain protein homeostasis, chromatin remodeling, and cell growth. Recent studies indicate its role in modifying various components of membraneless organelles (MLOs) such as stress granules and processing bodies, suggesting its participation in the regulation of protein condensates. In this study, we found that Hsp90α possesses an inherent ability to form dynamic condensates in vitro. Utilizing LC-MS/MS, we further pinpointed proteins in cell lysates that preferentially integrate into Hsp90α condensates. Significantly, we observed a prevalence of RG motif repeats in client proteins of Hsp90α condensates, many of which are linked to various MLOs. Moreover, each of the three domains of Hsp90α was found to undergo phase separation, with numerous solvent-exposed negatively charged residues on these domains being crucial for driving Hsp90α condensation through multivalent weak electrostatic interactions. Additionally, various clients like TDP-43 and hnRNPA1, along with poly-GR and PR dipeptide repeats, exhibit varied impacts on the dynamic behavior of Hsp90α condensates. Our study spotlights various client proteins associated with Hsp90α condensates, illustrating its intricate adaptive nature in interacting with diverse clients and its functional adaptability across multiple MLOs.

ABSTRACT

Background: Immunotherapy has demonstrated its potential to improve the prognosis of patients with hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC); however, patients' responses to immunotherapy vary a lot. A comparative analysis of the tumor microenvironment (TME) in responders and non-responders is expected to unveil the mechanisms responsible for the immunotherapy resistance and provide potential treatment targets. Methods: We performed sequencing analyses using 10x Genomics technology on six HCC patients who responded to anti-PD-1 therapy and one HCC patient who did not respond. Additionally, we obtained single cell data from untreated, responsive, and nonresponsive HCC patients from public databases, and used part of the datasets as a validation cohort. These data were integrated using algorithms such as Harmony. An independent validation cohort was established. Furthermore, we performed spatial transcriptomic sequencing on the tumor adjacent tissues of three HCC responsive patients using 10x Genomics spatial transcriptomic technology. Additionally, we analyzed data about three HCC patients obtained from public databases. Finally, we validated our conclusions using immunofluorescence, flow cytometry, and in vivo experiments. Results: Our findings confirmed the presence of "immune barrier" partially accounting for the limited efficacy of immunotherapy. Our analysis revealed a significant increase in TREM2+ Macrophages among non-responsive patients expressing multiple immunosuppressive signals. anti-Csf1r monoclonal antibodies effectively eliminated these macrophages and augmented the therapeutic effects of anti-PD-1 therapy. TCR+ Macrophages possessed direct tumor-killing capabilities. IL1B+ cDC2 was the primary functional subtype of cDC2 cells. Absence of THEMIShi CD8+ T subtypes might diminish immunotherapeutic effects. Furthermore, CD8+ T cells entered a state of stress after anti-PD-1 treatment, which might be associated with CD8+ T cell exhaustion and senescence. Conclusions: The profiles of immune TMEs showed differences in HCC patients responsive, non-responsive and untreated. These differences might explain the discounted efficacy of immunotherapy in some HCC patients. The cells and molecules, which we found to carry unique capabilities, may be targeted to enhance immunotherapeutic outcomes in patients with HCC.

BACKGROUND AND AIMS: To investigate the clinical features, ALDH5A1 gene variations, treatment, and prognosis of patients with succinic semialdehyde dehydrogenase (SSADH) deficiency. MATERIALS AND METHODS: This retrospective study evaluated the findings in 13 Chinese patients with SSADH deficiency admitted to the Pediatric Department of Peking University First Hospital from September 2013 to September 2023. RESULTS: Thirteen patients (seven male and six female patients; two sibling sisters) had the symptoms aged from 1 month to 1 year. Their urine 4-hydroxybutyrate acid levels were elevated and were accompanied by mildly increased serum lactate levels. Brain magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) showed symmetric abnormal signals in both sides of the globus pallidus and other areas. All 13 patients had psychomotor retardation, with seven showing epileptic seizures. Among the 18 variants of the ALDH5A1 gene identified in these 13 patients, six were previously reported, while 12 were novel variants. Among the 12 novel variants, three (c.85_116del, c.206_222dup, c.762C > G) were pathogenic variants; five (c.427delA, c.515G > A, c.637C > T, c.755G > T, c.1274T > C) were likely pathogenic; and the remaining four (c.454G > C, c.479C > T, c.1480G > A, c.1501G > C) were variants of uncertain significance. The patients received drugs such as L-carnitine, vigabatrin, and taurine, along with symptomatic treatment. Their urine 4-hydroxybutyric acid levels showed variable degrees of reduction. CONCLUSIONS: A cohort of 13 cases with early-onset SSADH deficiency was analyzed. Onset of symptoms occurred from 1 month to 1 year of age. Twelve novel variants of the ALDH5A1 gene were identified.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To summarize the application experience of the pneumatic arm in transnasal sphenoidal pituitary adenoma resection under neuroendoscope. METHODS: A retrospective analysis was conducted on the clinical data of 52 patients with pituitary adenoma who underwent endoscopic transsphenoidal surgery with pneumatic arm fixation in the Neurosurgery Department of the First Affiliated Hospital of Anhui Medical University from July 2021 to March 2024. Among them, there were 5 cases of pituitary microadenoma, 35 cases of macroadenoma, and 12 cases of giant adenoma. Head CT and a full set of hormones were re-examined within 24 hours after surgery to evaluate the surgical effect. Follow-up was conducted by the outpatient department after surgery to assess the clinical symptoms, hormone level, and imaging of all patients. RESULTS: Among 52 patients, gross total resection was achieved in 48 cases (92.3%), subtotal resection in 3 cases (5.8%), and partial resection in 1 case (1.9%). Preoperatively, 43 patients had diminished vision, with 40 showing improvement postoperatively, 1 worsening, and 2 having no significant improvement. Thirty-eight patients had headaches preoperatively, and all showed varying degrees of improvement postoperatively. Routine hormone examination within 24 hours after surgery showed that all 20 prolactinoma patients had restored normal hormone levels, 10 of 12 growth hormone-secreting adenoma patients normalized, and 4 of 6 cases of adrenocorticotropic hormone-secreting adenoma immediately relieved after surgery. Postoperative complications included intracranial hematoma in 1 case, cerebrospinal fluid leakage in 2 cases, transient diabetes insipidus in 6 cases, intracranial infection in 1 case, and no death cases. The median follow-up time of 52 patients was 18.6 months (range: 1-32 mo). During the follow-up period, the initial clinical symptoms of all patients improved to varying degrees, and they were able to work and live normally. At the last follow-up, 1 patient had recurrent tumor and 1 patient had progression. CONCLUSION: Transnasal sphenoidal resection of pituitary adenoma using a pneumatic arm-fixed neuroendoscope allows the operator to perform the surgery with both hands, resulting in satisfactory overall tumor resection and fewer surgical complications. This technique has good clinical value for promotion.

ABSTRACT

Skin metastasis from ovarian cancer is rare, and its prognosis is poor. Effective therapeutic strategies are currently lacking, but the combination of various treatment methods shrink the tumor and relieve symptoms. The present study reports a rare case of advanced ovarian cancer with skin metastases and intestinal wall thickening, along with a BRCA1 DNA repair associated (BRCA1) mutation. After standard first-line treatment and non-standard second-line treatment, the patient developed skin metastases. The patient's skin itching, pain and lesions were completely relieved after administering bevacizumab in combination with paclitaxel and carboplatin. After 4 months, skin metastases recurred along with anal distension during maintenance treatment with oral poly(ADP ribose) polymerase (PARP) inhibitors. The patient was treated again with bevacizumab combined with docetaxel, and the anal distension was significantly relieved. Angiogenesis therapy combined with chemotherapy is effective, but that the disease-free survival time is short, and PARP inhibitor maintenance effect is limited even in cases with a BRCA1 gene mutation.

Grain size is one of the most important traits determining crop yield. However, the mechanism controlling grain size remains unclear. Here, we confirmed the E3 ligase activity of DECREASED GRAIN SIZE 1 (DGS1) in positive regulation of grain size in rice (Oryza sativa) suggested in a previous study. Rice G-protein subunit gamma 2 (RGG2), which negatively regulates grain size, was identified as an interacting protein of DGS1. Biochemical analysis suggested that DGS1 specifically interacts with canonical Gγ subunits (rice G-protein subunit gamma 1 [RGG1] and rice G-protein subunit gamma 2 [RGG2]) rather than non-canonical Gγ subunits (DENSE AND ERECT PANICLE 1 [DEP1], rice G-protein gamma subunit type C 2 [GCC2], GRAIN SIZE 3 [GS3]). We also identified the necessary domains for interaction between DGS1 and RGG2. As an E3 ligase, DGS1 ubiquitinated and degraded RGG2 via a proteasome pathway in several experiments. DGS1 also ubiquitinated RGG2 by its K140, K145 and S147 residues. Thus, this work identified a substrate of the E3 ligase DGS1 and elucidated the post transcriptional regulatory mechanism of the G-protein signalling pathway in the control of grain size.

Lipids are an important energy source and are utilized as substrates for various physiological processes in insects. Comparative gene identification 58 (CGI-58), also known as α/ß hydrolase domain-containing 5 (ABHD5), is a highly conserved and multifunctional gene involved in regulating lipid metabolism and cellular energy balance in many organisms. However, the biological functions of ABHD5 in insects are poorly understood. In the current study, we describe the identification and characterization of the ABHD5 gene in the lepidopteran model insect, Bombyx mori. The tissue expression profile investigated using quantitative reverse transcription polymerase chain reaction (RT-qPCR) reveals that BmABHD5 is widely expressed in all tissues, with particularly high levels found in the midgut and testis. A binary transgenic CRISPR/Cas9 system was employed to conduct a functional analysis of BmABHD5, with the mutation of BmABHD5 leading to the dysregulation of lipid metabolism and excessive lipid accumulation in the larval midgut. Histological and physiological analysis further reveals a significant accumulation of lipid droplets in the midgut of mutant larvae. RNA-seq and RT-qPCR analysis showed that genes related to metabolic pathways were significantly affected by the absence of BmABHD5. Altogether, our data prove that BmABHD5 plays an important role in regulating tissue-specific lipid metabolism in the silkworm midgut.

ABSTRACT

Background: To compare the visual outcomes and optical quality of patients who underwent bilateral implantation of EDOF (AcrySof® IQ Vivity IOL, DFT015) for mini-monovision, trifocal (AcrySof® IQ PanOptix, TNFT00), or monofocal (AcrySof® IQ IOL, SN60WF) IOL. Methods: The monocular-corrected and uncorrected distance visual acuities (CDVA and UDVA, respectively) were evaluated postoperatively at 1 and 3 months. The binocular visual acuity by distance, the binocular defocus curve, contrast sensitivity, and patient satisfaction were examined 3 months postoperatively. All patients were asked to complete questionnaires regarding their satisfaction, visual symptoms, and spectacle dependency. Results: This study included 178 eyes from 89 patients. The postoperative binocular UDVA did not differ significantly among the three groups. In the defocus curve, the Vivity group showed better visual acuity over a range of far and intermediate (60 cm) than the other two IOLs groups. In near-vision, the PanOptix group showed the best near-vision, and the Vivity group showed significantly better vision than the IQ group. The Vivity group showed contrast sensitivity and optical quality comparable to the IQ group. Conclusions: The bilateral implantation of AcrySof® IQ Vivity IOL with the mini-monovision approach provided excellent distance and intermediate visual acuity with good near-vision, resulting in high satisfaction.
