ABSTRACT

In silico molecular modeling studies were carried out on some newly synthesized flavanoid analogues. Search for potential targets for these compounds was performed using pharmacophore-mapping algorithm employing inverse screening of some representative compounds to a large set of pharmacophore models constructed from human target proteins. Further, molecular docking studies were carried out to assess binding affinity of these compounds to proteins mediating tumor growth. In vitro anticancer studies were carried out on colon cancer cell lines (HCT116) to assess validity of this approach for target identification of the new compounds. Further important structural features of compounds for anticolon cancer activity were assessed using Monte Carlo-based SMILES and hydrogen graph-Based QSAR studies. In conclusion this study have depicted successful and stepwise application of pharmacophore mapping, molecular docking, and QSAR studies in target identification and lead optimization of flavonoids.

ABSTRACT

In order to illustrate a particular circumstance of diagnosis of celiac disease, we report the case of 54-year-old women with a history of thyroid enlargement with normal thyroid function and positive anti-peroxidase antibodies. Immediately after total thyroidectomy with preservation of the parathyroid glands, she developed tetany with total serum calcium level at 50mg/l. Intravenous calcium infusion increased the calcium level and led to resolution of hypocalcemia-induced signs but there was no result when calcium and vitamin D were taken orally. The diagnosis of malabsorption was very probable in light of the family history of celiac disease, the anemia and the hypoalbuminemia. The diagnosis was confirmed by antibodies assay and endoscopy. The PTH level was less than 1 pg/l and radiography showed signs of hyperparathyroidism. Gluten-free diet, calcium and vitamin D led to an improvement of serum calcium.

ABSTRACT

To provide patients with easy-access telemedicine services in Palestine, a simple and low-cost telemedicine system has been established. The system is based on a star topology network between local hospitals and a main telemedicine centre. In a pilot trial, a computerized tomography image was transmitted from a local hospital connected to the telemedicine service centre by ISDN (128 kbit/s). A videoconferencing discussion between the two ends was held. The performance of the system was satisfactory. The transmission time for a 1 MByte image was about 60 s. A conference was conducted to discuss this real clinical case by use of interactive sharing of the medical record. The session lasted 20 min. Encouraging results were obtained. The pilot study suggests that telemedicine can overcome existing isolation problems of cities and villages and the difficulties of transferring patients from one location to another.

ABSTRACT

The day hospital is a relatively new way of hospitalization in Tunisia, the first experience beginning in 1985 to the National Institute of Nutrition. This hospitalization avoid the drawbacks of classic hospitalization (dependency, discomfort, separation) and boredom and present a lot of advantages of social command, humanitarian, psychological, medical and economical the cost of hospitalization is clearly reduced). This day hospitalization is beneficial in several pathologies notably the illness nutrition and metabolic diseases (diabetes, obesity, dyslipoproteinemia, hyperuricemia), where the patients continue to have a good physical activity and where the education médico sanitary and dietary hygiéno occupies a position of choice.

ABSTRACT

Two identical host contaminant-free lipoprotein antigens were isolated from the metacestodes of T. hydatigena and T. multiceps, of which antigen 1 was more reactive than antigen 2. These antigens appear to be identical with antigens B and A, respectively, and antigen 2 with arc 5 of Echinococcus granulosus described by other workers. Attempts to use these antigens in serodiagnosis showed that only in the indirect haemagglutination (IHA) technique was there any increased sensitivity and specificity compared with the unpurified cyst fluid antigens. No correlation was found between the size of the infecting dose, the number of cysts found at necropsy, the IHA titres, or number of precipitation lines seen in immunodiffusion tests.
