ABSTRACT

The field of analytical chemistry has been significantly advanced by the availability of state-of-the-art instrumentation, allowing for the development of novel applications in this field. However, in many cases, the direct interpretation of the recorded data is often not straightforward, hence some level of pre-processing is required (e.g., baseline correction, derivatives, normalization, smoothing). These techniques have become a critical first step for the successful analysis of the data recorded, and it is recommended to use them before the application of chemometrics (e.g., classification, calibration development). The aim of this paper is to provide with an overview of the most used pre-processing methods applied to instrumental analytical methods (e.g., spectroscopy, chromatography). Examples of their application in near infrared and UV-VIS spectroscopy as well as in gas chromatography will be also discussed. Overall, this paper provides with a comprehensive understanding of pre-processing techniques in analytical chemistry, highlighting their importance during the analysis and interpretation of data, as well as during the development of accurate and reliable chemometric models.

ABSTRACT

PURPOSE: The present study aimed at assessing the effectiveness of group-cognitive-behavioral therapy for anxiety, depression, and self-esteem among children of parents with alcohol use disorder. DESIGN AND METHODS: A randomized, controlled trial study was conducted with 70 children of parents with alcohol use disorder. The children were initially screened for the presence of behavioral problems and living with parents with alcohol use disorder, then assigned randomly to experimental and control groups. The experimental group received eight biweekly group CBT sessions. RESULTS: Over 3-month study period, the results showed a statistically significant reduction in depression and anxiety scores and a significant improvement in self-esteem scores among CBT group children compared with the control group children. CONCLUSION: Our study demonstrates the effectiveness of CBT group treatment for children of parents with an alcohol use disorder and that school mental health nurses/psychiatric nurses can effectively deliver psychotherapy for behavioral and emotional problems of high-risk children.

ABSTRACT

Biomaterial research has improved the delivery and efficacy of drugs over a wide range of pharmaceutical applications. The objective of this study was to synthesize benzodioxane coupled piperazine decorated chitosan silver nanoparticle (Bcp*C@AgNPs) against methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA) and to assess the nanoparticle as an effective candidate for antibacterial and anti-biofilm care. Antibacterial activity of the compound was examined and minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) was observed at (10.21 ± 0.03 ZOI) a concentration of 200 µg/mL. The Bcp*C@AgNPs interferes with surface adherence of MRSA, suggesting an anti-biofilm distinctive property that is verified for the first time by confocal laser microscopic studies. By ADMET studies the absorption, distribution, metabolism, excretion and toxicity of the compound was examined. The interaction solidity and the stability of the compound when surrounded by water molecules were analyzed by docking and dynamic simulation analysis. The myoblast cell line (L6) was considered for toxicity study and was observed that the compound exhibited less toxic effect. This current research highlights the biocidal efficiency of Bcp*C@AgNPs with their bactericidal and anti-biofilm properties over potential interesting clinical trial targets in future.

ABSTRACT

Oncologists all over the globe, relentlessly research on methodologies for detection of cancer and precise localization of cancer therapeutics with minimal adverse effects on healthy tissues. Since the previous decade, the fast growing research in nanotechnology has shown promising possibilities for achieving this dream of every oncologist.Nanorobots (or nanobots) are typical devices ranging in size from 0.1 to 10 µm and constructed of nanoscale or molecular components. Robots will augment the surgeon's motor performance, diagnostic capability and sensations with haptics and augmented reality. The article here aims in briefly describing the architecture of the nanorobots and their role in oncotherapy. Although, research into nanorobots is still in its preliminary stages, the promise of such technology is endless.

ABSTRACT

A single step synthesis route is described for the preparation of rhodium nanoparticles using a cobalt aminophthalocyanine macrocyclic complex as a stabilizer. The results of nanoparticles characterization using electronic absorption, Raman and X-ray spectroscopes as well as transmission electron microscopy are reported. Rhodium nanoparticle modified electrode behavior as examined by cyclic and differential pulse voltammetry is also provided. The nanoparticles were found to be well dispersed and stabilized throughout the macromolecular matrix. TEM studies showed that they have an average diameter of 3 to 5 nm with spherical shape. The colloidal rhodium was then used for electrochemical sensing of cytochrome c using glassy carbon electrode. The results showed that the colloidal rhodium nanoparticles enhanced the electron transfer process between cytochrome c and the electrode. Differential pulse voltammetric measurements of cytochrome c at the colloidal rhodium nanoparticles modified glassy carbon electrode showed a linear relationship with the oxidation peak currents in the concentration range of 100 nM to 3 microM of cytochrome c.

ABSTRACT

A simple and sensitized spectrophotometric method for the determination of trace amounts of beryllium has been described. The method is based on the formation of a ternary complex by the reaction of beryllium with haematoxylin in the presence of micellar medium (cationic surfactant, cetyltrimethylammonium bromide). The ternary complex of beryllium has a maximum absorbance at 592 nm and showed an excellent sensitivity (molar absorption coefficient of 7.07 x 10(4)L mol(-1)cm(-1) and the Sandell's sensitivity being 1.27 x 10(-4) microg cm(-2)) and reproducibility (within-day precision: R.S.D.
