ABSTRACT
RESUMEN Fundamento: las jóvenes generaciones necesitan conocer las raíces africanas que contribuyeron a la formación de la cultura e identidad cubanas. Objetivo: caracterizar la influencia africana en la formación de la cultura e identidad cubanas. Métodos: se realizó una investigación de tipo documental, durante el segundo semestre del curso 2014-2015 en la Universidad de Ciencias Médicas de Villa Clara. Se utilizaron métodos del nivel teórico: histórico-lógico, análisis-síntesis e inducción-deducción y del nivel empírico: el análisis documental de artículos científicos, libros, fotografías y otras fuentes históricas de varios autores, estudiosos reconocidos en el domino del tema. Resultados: la entrada a Cuba de los esclavos africanos y sus costumbres, hábitos de vida, religiosidad, cantos, bailes, identificación con la naturaleza y uso de la Fitoterapia han dejado su huella en la identidad y la cultura cubanas conformadas sobre la base de un amplio proceso de mestizaje. Conclusiones: la cultura y la identidad cubanas son producto de la transculturación como resultado de la mezcla de raíces indias, hispanas, africanas, y de otros pueblos; este proceso es fragua de conocimientos sobre la historia de la nacionalidad y constituye un legado que deben defender las nuevas generaciones.
ABSTRACT Background: the younger generations need to know the African roots that contributed to the formation of the Cuban identity and culture. Objective: to characterize the African influence in the formation of the Cuban identity and culture. Methods: it was carried out a documental research work, during the second semester of the academic year 2014-2015 in Villa Clara University of Medical Sciences. Methods of the theoretical level were used: historical-logical, analysis-synthesis and induction-deduction and empiric level methods: the documental analysis of scientific articles, books, pictures and other historical sources of several authors, who are recognized specialists with high command on the topic. Results: the entry to Cuba of the African slaves and their customs, habits of life, religiosity, chants, dances, identification with nature and the use of herbal medicine has left its influence in the identity and the Cuban culture conformed on the base of a wide miscegenation process. Conclusions: the Cuban identity and culture are the results of the intercultural process due to the mixture of native roots, Hispanic, African, and of other people; this process is the melting pot of knowledge on the history of the nationality and it constitutes a legacy that the new generations should defend.

RESUMEN Frida Kahlo, personalidad de las artes plásticas mexicanas, efectuó contribuciones significativas a la cultura universal sobreponiéndose a enfermedades y penurias que marcaron su existencia. Es propósito de las autoras destacar las facetas fundamentales de su individualidad particularizando en los aspectos que demuestran su lugar en la historia de México, a través de su creación artística y el vínculo que como paciente establece con el ejercicio de la Medicina. La revisión bibliográfica realizada permitió aseverar su trascendencia a partir de la defensa que hace del folclore de su país frente a los modelos europeos tradicionales.
ABSTRACT Frida Kahlo, personality of the Mexican plastic arts, made significant contributions to the universal culture overcoming to illnesses and penuries that marked her existence. It is the authors' purpose to highlight the fundamental facets of her individuality particularizing in the aspects that demonstrate her place in the history of Mexico, through her artistic creation and the links that she establishes with the exercise of Medicine as a patient. This bibliographical review allowed asserting her transcendence through the defense she makes of the folklore of her country in front of the traditional European models.
