ABSTRACT

In the field of cervical spondylosis, cervicobrachialgia caused by uncovertebral joint arthritis has been well defined and classified, as it is seen quite commonly in clinical practice. Non-operative treatment relieves the symptoms in most cases. Operative treatment is used when the neurovascular structures are involved and the patient does not respond to conservative treatment. The authors present the surgical technique they employed on 38 patients with neck and arm pain due to uncovertebral joint arthritis, and they report the long-term results.

ABSTRACT

The authors present a case of isolated paralysis of the serratus anterior due to compression of the long thoracic nerve by a cervical rib. The clinical and diagnostic features are described. Removal of the vertical rib resulted in complete functional recovery of the muscle involved.

ABSTRACT

The authors show a case of osteomyelitis due to salmonella, they had the opportunity to observe in a patient suffering from thalassemia and sickle-cells disease in heterozygote from. They describe all the clinical and instrumental ascertainments performed and the surgical treatment effected at level of the osteomyelitic focus with subsequent recovery.

ABSTRACT

In the present work a case of alcaptonuric arthropathy is described. The rareness of such type of pathology has suggested us a re-examination of the ptrtaining literature; after a necessary introduction concerning the etiopathogenetic and anatomo-pathological part, we detailedly explain the clinico-diagnostical aspect. We subsequently document the case we had the opportunity to observe. Due to the seriousness of the articular involvement, we subjected it to radical surgical treatment, from which it enjoyed a real advantage.

ABSTRACT

The authors report the clinico-functional results observed in 109 patients subjected to removal of a total hip replacement. After remarking the progressive increase in the aseptic mobilizations recorded during the last years, and after shortly stating the criteria whereby the prosthesized patients are controlled along with the time, they detailedly set forth the results. In conclusion, the results recorded are generally satisfactory, although the operation for removal of the replacement is an expedient badly fitting subjects in young or, anyhow, working age.

ABSTRACT

In the present work some concepts of physiopathology and pathogenesis of cervico-brachial neuralgiae due to uncoarthrosis are punctualized; after a short specification about diagnostics, the possibility of a surgical treatment is schematically represented.

ABSTRACT

The Authors' purpose is to propose an operation, based on Viladot's, which will be technically simple and not involve any mutilation: it is performed in order to provide good support to children with valgus flat foot suffering from cerebral paralysis of spastic type or secondary to other neurological forms; it may however also be indicated in primitive valgus flat foot.

ABSTRACT

It is first stressed that medial fractures of the femur neck pose therapeutic and prognostic problems linked above all to biological factors. After reference to the criteria of classification adopted by Linton and Pauwels, the need to adopt fixed parameters in establishing the surgical indication is then asserted. These parameters are the patient's age, understood not only as number of years but also as general and psychic state, and the obliquity of the fracture line or its degree of decomposition. The Authors conclude by establishing four theorectical groups of patients and indicating the treatment they adopted for each group.

ABSTRACT

The Authors report on treatment of patients with total prosthesis of the hip, in whom mobilisation of the prosthesis or one or both its components has occurred. In particular, stress is put on the results of the operation of removal of the prosthesis, which finds its major indications in cases of acute or remote, deep sepsis, and in case of aseptic mobilisation when the theoretical presuppositions allowing its substitution do not exist.

ABSTRACT

Severe fractures of the distal end of the femur, which have become increasingly numerous as a result of the multiplication of road accidents, frequently require surgical treatment. The Authors, updating to 1979 the cases of the "G. Pini" Orthopedic Institute in the field of Judet's screw-plate, document the validity of this means of synthesis as confirmed by the quality of the results.

ABSTRACT

We felt that it was both necessary and useful to complete what had been said and written on other occasions regarding our cases. This updating paper therefore contains the impressions arising out of expansion of our experience, some details of technique and above all a better designed therapeutic strategy that we feel will be more effective in solving the long-standing polymorphous problem of treatment of septic pseudoarthrosis.

ABSTRACT

Modern tendencies in the treatment of infected pseudarthrosis are discussed and compared with the methods of the recent past. Seventy four cases are analysed in detail. Fifty three were in the tibia, twenty six of which were treated by a standard modern technique consisting of osteomuscular decortication, excision of infected tissues and necrotic bone, external fixation and if necessary the addition of autoplastic cancellous grafts. The main purpose of this study was to analyse these results and assess the validity of this method.
