ABSTRACT

A complex clinico-functional examination (clinical, ++roentgenological, electromyographical, functional tests) performed in patients after correcting osteotomy within the terms up to 1 year allowed to objectively assess the efficiency of the prolongation of ambulatory treatment of the patients under conditions of intensive restorative treatment and recognize more than 50% of the patients to be capable of working.

ABSTRACT

A total of 65 patients at the productive age and with a history of ischemic stroke were examined. Comprehensive clinical and electromyographic studies revealed mild and moderate motor disturbances and determined criteria of the prognosis of motor function recovery. Follow-up findings confirmed the validity of these prognostic criteria.

ABSTRACT

Fifteen patients with lateral amyotrophic sclerosis (LAS) and 37 patients with the LAS syndrome of vertebrogenic etiology were examined by global electromyography and recording of the H-reflex. The findings confirmed the diagnostic significance of electromyography in specifying the localization and severity of the pathological process. The method of monsynaptic testing was found to be especially valuable for diagnosing the disease at the early stage of development which helps to differentiate between LAS and the LAS syndrome of vertebrogenic etiology.

ABSTRACT

Clinical and electromyographic data obtained from 50 patients who were in the late period of discogenic lumbosacral radiculoischemias were compared. A group of patients was differentiated in whom the clinical findings did not correlate with the electromyographic ones. These patients showed subclinical electromyographic symptoms pointing to an involvement of the segmental apparatus of the spinal cord. The differentiation of the above group of the patients is especially important for the practice of estimating the working capacity, since in cases of a physical overstrain or action of additional adverse factors the process may be decompensated.

ABSTRACT

Trophic disorders in the tissues of diseased extremities were studied in 530 patients with thrombophlebitis. Four clinical degrees of such disorders were found. The authors have shown that in the first and second degrees of trophic disorders changes in the tissues were of the compensated, subcompensated and practically reversible character, while in the third and fourth degrees they resulted in decompensation of the extremity functions and were found to be irreversible. The conclusion is made that results of the surgical treatment are directly dependent on the degree of the regional trophic disorders.

ABSTRACT

In order to study possible social-working rehabilitation of people with fractures of the backbone and their sequellae complex, mainly dynamic, clinico-laboratory investigations were carried out in 224 people with non-complicated fractures of the thoracic and lumbar sections of the vertebral column within 1--15 and more years after trauma. More than 30% of the patients were considered to be stable invalids at the primary examination. The social-working rehabilitation of people with sequellae of the backbone fractures is based on the state of compensation of the disturbed functions of the vertebral column and the character of the occupation.

ABSTRACT

In patients with syringomyelia and tuberculous spondilitis accompanied by spinal disturbances (which are in accordance with clinical data considered as models with prevalent signs of disintegration and irritation in the spinal cord) the authors studied separate parameters of the H-reflex and 2 functionally different muscles: m. gastrocnemium and m. soleus. It was possible to show certain differences in the parameters of the H-reflex between the two groups of patients and between the indices of the 2 studied motoneuron pools within each group. The report contains some ideas in relation to the possible causes of these phenomena.
