ABSTRACT

This report documents three recent cases in Hungary in which personal identification was achieved by comparison of antemortem and postmortem radiographs. These cases demonstrate three examples of radiological identification. In Hungary, comparison methods play an important role in personal identification because of the lack of adequate dental records for most of the population. The authors emphasize that in cases where antemortem radiographs and photographs are available, radiographic comparison is deemed preferable to photographic superimposition, because it is more technically exacting and permits the matching of a potentially larger number of anatomical, pathological or traumatic features.

ABSTRACT

The authors observed ischaemic damages in jejunal loops used for esophageal reconstruction with full or partial regeneration. In addition to the case reports, they discuss the cause, the mechanism, the possible prevention and correction of this rare complication.

ABSTRACT

Tenography has been performed on eight detached fingers and two intact hands of cadavers. Bulging and overlapping of synovial pockets between the ligamentous structures during flexion, their flattening during extension and the continuous change in expansion of the proximal cul de sac suggests a possible mixing mechanism for the synovial fluid. During flexion and extension a physiological joint-type bowstringing of the flexor tendons was observed at the PIP and DIP joints. This finding supports the theory that the flexor tendon moment arm is increased at these joints.

ABSTRACT

Staging of malignant lymphomas, monitoring of response to therapy and regular follow-up of treated patients can properly be performed by new diagnostic imaging modalities. Diagnosis of subdiaphragmatic nodal involvement by ultrasonography and computed tomography is based on enlargement of lymph nodes. Lymphography is the only method which can depict pathologic internal architecture in normal sized lymph nodes. Of 82 patients there were 72 on admission without known subdiaphragmatic nodal disease. Of these 22 (30.5%) were found to have nodal involvement in this region. Suggested diagnostic algorhythm is shown on flow diagram.

ABSTRACT

Six out of 204 patients with Hodgkin's disease developed second malignant tumours 25, 30, 61, 65, 68 and 130 months following their treatment. The length of follow-up ranged between 24-233 months with a mean value of 95.8 months. Half of the tumours appeared within the volume irradiated. Five patients received radio- and polychemotherapy, only but one radiotherapy alone. The location of tumours found was as follows: 1 melanoma of the skin, 1 adenocarcinoma of the nasopharynx, 1 cancer of the rectum, 1 renal cell cancer as well as two cancers of the lung. Four patients are living following treatment of their secondary tumour. Until now no case of acute leukaemia could be observed.
