ABSTRACT

The aim of the present study is to evaluate role of plasma antioxidants (albumin, bilirubin and uric acid) in patients suffering from type I Bipolar Disorder (BD-I) during different phases of illness: acute mania, euthymia and bipolar depression. Medical records of consecutive 110 BD-I patients (38 patients with acute mania, 35 in euthymic state, full remission, and 37 in depressive phase) were reviewed to evaluate plasma antioxidant levels. Laboratory data of 40 healthy controls were also obtained. The scores of Young Mania Rating Scale (YMRS), Bech-Rafaelsen Manic Rating Scale (BRMRS) and Hamilton Rating Scale for Depression (HAM-D) were evaluated. Serum uric acid levels were higher in acute mania than other patient subgroups and healthy controls. Serum uric acid levels directly correlated with BRMRS and YMRS scores. No differences were found between clinical groups during different phases and healthy controls concerning albumin and bilirubin. In conclusion, the results of the present study support the notion that serum uric acid levels may be higher in patients with BP-I (especially during manic phases) which may suggest a dysregulation of the purinergic system. However, limitations should be considered and further studies are needed.

ABSTRACT

Recently, a possible relationship between C-Reactive Protein (CRP), a marker of underlying low-grade inflammation, and mood disorders has been proposed by some researchers. The aim of this review is to elucidate the current facts and views about CRP in mood disorders such as Depressive and Bipolar Disorders. Several studies have examined the relationship between affective disorders and CRP, but the majority of the studies in literature have been limited by retrospective, case-controlled study design, and very few studies have examined the relationship between depression and CRP in large study samples. In conclusion, the role of CRP in mood disorders is, to date, intriguing but somewhat unclear. Further prospective studies are needed to introduce the CRP in clinical settings as a marker of affective states and suicidability.

ABSTRACT

Mobbing constitutes a phenomenon not yet clearly defined. The activity, located in the II Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, is specifically dedicated to such phenomenon, which is the outcome of cooperation. The examined population is composed by a light prevalence of men (51.3%) respect to women (48.6%), aged around 42 years and employees (71.6%), workers (28.4%). All patients have been submitted to working anamnesis before being subjected to a psychiatric examination and psycodiagnostic tests. The emerged data underline a trouble of adaptation 55.4% of the cases, 40.5% is affected by psychiatric pathologies, 4.1% of the patients do not show mental disorders. A certification of compatibility with mobbing has been possible to be verified in 49% of the cases. Nevertheless, it is necessary a connection between a physician and business medical service. We hope a necessary enactment of a specific regulation.

ABSTRACT

Mobbing constitutes a phenomenon not yet clearly defined. The activity, located in the H Faculty of Medicine and Surgery, is specifically dedicated to such phenomenon, which is the outcome of cooperation. The examined population is composed by a light prevalence of women (54%) respect to men (46%), aged around 44 years and employees (73%), workers (27%). All patients have been submitted to working anamnesis before being subjected to a psychiatric examination and psycodiagnostic tests. The emerged data underline a trouble of adaptation 63% of the cases (to which we have released a certification of compatibility with mobbing), 28% is affected by psychiatric pathologies, 9% of the patients do not show mental disorders. Nevertheless, it is necessary a connection between a physician and business medical service.

ABSTRACT

And' is studied the noise exposure (with the calculation of the Lep,d) and the auditory function (with the method MPB 2002) in employed to the coffee's workmanship. The purpose was double. To deepen aspects a little studied thin to today and to compare the results with the "values limit of exposure" and the "values of exposure that make to go off the action" foreseen by the European directive 2003 of February 6th 2003. The data have underlined levels of noise below the inferior values of exposure that make to go off the action (80 dBAs) and absence of auditory effects from noise. The results suggest therefore the opportunity to extend the observations in other similar technological cycles, also to appraise other risks reported in literature as the cutaneous and respiratory allergies.
