ABSTRACT

The results of clinical double-blind trials using minoxidil 2% demonstrate the real efficacy of the drug in producing satisfactory esthetical results in some 30% of treated patients. One aspect of the results of this research which is not yet clear is the significant increase in the number of hairs, also found in voluntary subjects treated with placebo. In the present study is hypothesised that this increase may be partially explained by the failure to take into account the physiological seasonal variations in hair density, and by the confusion caused by the use of the "non-vello" category which is used to describe terminal (thick) and indeterminate (thin) hairs. In our study placebo failed to produce a significant increase in the number of terminal hairs, thus explaining why, even in the presence of an increased number of "non-vello" hairs, on average there was no real cosmetic benefit in these subjects.

ABSTRACT

Thirteen patients suffering from psoriasis vulgaris of middle-high severity, were treated with tranylcypromine (5 mg once a day) or with placebo during a four months period, following a double-blind randomized trial. Results were evaluated with a statistical analysis of the data obtained with a PASI method. Tranylcypromine, an MAOI drug, appears to be effective in reducing the extension and severity of lesions.

ABSTRACT

The aim of this study was to approach on a psychical point of view 27 patients suffering from chronic idiopathic urticaria (14), pruritus sine materia (6), alopecia areata (3), pathomimia (4), in order to examine the possibility that psychic disorders could act as triggering or aggravating the dermatological affection. Psychical assessment was evaluated by colloquy and by the administration of some psychodiagnostic tests: EPI, MMPI, Zung. The role of psychogenic factors in skin diseases is emphasized and the results obtained from the use of antidepressant and minor tranquilizer drugs are discussed.

ABSTRACT

Ciclopiroxolamine's action has been evaluated in 20 cases of dermatophytosis. The minimum inhibitory concentrations (MIC) for the strains was determined in vitro before treatment (To), after the 4th day (T4), and after the 7th day (T7) of treatment, in relation with the drug's fungicide effect. No significant variation was observed among the MIC values. By comparing the MIC of T4 versus the MIC of To a 0.93 coefficient of linear correlation was obtained while in comparing T7 versus T4 the coefficient was equivalent to 1.0. After 7 days of treatment 5 patients clinically recovered, 11 improved and 4 showed no improvement. Drug tolerance was excellent except for one case.
