ABSTRACT

Based on their retrospective epidemiological analysis and examination of 56 outpatient case histories, the authors have studied the clinical and epidemiological regularities of hymenolepiasis in the Ivano-Frankovsk region, which is characterized by: 1) its epidemic and familial pattern, mainly afflicting rural populations, young schoolchildren in particular; 2) high contagiousness and incidence of multiinvasions in the tense foci; 3) a number of the most typical syndromes identified in the clinical picture of helminthic infections, which may serve as criteria for selecting patients for laboratory studies.

ABSTRACT

A study of viral hepatitis A in adolescent girls revealed the effect of menstrual cycle phases on the character of the course of the disease. It was established that the critical point of unfavourable course of the disease is coincidence of the days of height of the disease with the follicular peak of estrogen secretion (8-10 day of the cycle). During this period the patients showed a significant quantitative and functional insufficiency of the T-lymphocytic system of immunity and the functional liver tests were highly pathologic. These patients should be considered as high risk patients as to unfavourable course of the disease and development of acute liver failure.

ABSTRACT

Inclusion of thyroidin in the complex therapy of patients with viral hepatitis A and concomitant thyroid pathology accompanied by hypofunction of the thyroid gland produced a positive clinical effect, effected favourably the functional activity of the liver, the immunological and hormonal status. Thyroidin is recommended for wider use in this category of patients.

ABSTRACT

The data obtained point to the aggravation of virus hepatitis A time-course in case of a mixed pathology. This may be due to the state of a certain immune deficiency characteristic of parasitic diseases, including helminthiasis. It is also possible that immune deficiency is an inevitable condition for helminths' existance in the host. This suggestion is supported by the fact of helminthic invasion of virus hepatitis patients.

ABSTRACT

The combination of viral hepatitis (VH) with thyroid pathology in adolescents leads to an unfavorable course of VH and thyroid disease. The frequency of severe and lingering types of VH with more profound and prolonged shifts of indices of the T- and B-systems of immunity, function of the liver and protein metabolism is increased. Function of the thyroid is sharply suppressed, its euthyroid hyperplasia is often transformed into clinically obvious hypothyroidism.

ABSTRACT

Biological properties of 142 Proteus strains isolated from patients were studied. Sensitivity of Proteus to II antibiotics was tested. The isolates were resistant to most of the antibiotics. The highest number of the isolates was sensitive to ampicillin (77.1 minus or plus 7.16) and especially to carbenicillin (82.6 plus or minus 6.16). This provided the use of carbenicillin for the treatment of experimental septicemia in albino mice and wound processes in rabbits with Proteus complications. The high therapeutic effect of the antibiotic was shown in experiments with 210 albino mice and 44 rabbits. The therapeutic effect of carbenicillin increased when it was used in combination with prodigiozan and especially in combination with prodigiozan and lysozyme.
