ABSTRACT

Investigations showed that heat plants pollute atmospheric air in towns of Khabarovsk district. Concentrations of benzo(a)pyrene in air of Khabarovsk, Komsomolsk-on-Amur, and Amursk are 4-14 times higher than its maximum allowable concentration.

ABSTRACT

Properties of black bilayer membranes formed from sarcoma-45 phospholipids differed from those of normal cell phospholipids bilayers. Two types of Ca2+-channels were discovered: those multiple to 35 pA and those multiple to 90 pA. The study of bilayers from phospholipids of nuclei, mitochondria, microsomal fractions showed that Ca2+-channels were localized in the microsomal fraction of transformed cells. The relationship between DB18C6 diacetylderivatives membrane activity and their effect to growth of sarcoma-45 in vivo was discovered: the Ca2+-channel blocker diacetyl-DB18C6 inhibited the transformed cells growth.

ABSTRACT

Ultrasonic tomography was used in 40 patients with locally-advanced fibrosarcoma of soft tissues who had undergone polychemotherapy or radiation in combination with short-term (5-10 minutes) ultrasound or microwave treatment of physical therapy intensity (1-2 W/cm2) given as a modifier. These procedures were used prior to surgery in 24 cases and as the only treatment--in 16. Ultrasonic tomography was performed before start, in the middle and right after termination of therapy, and before surgery. Addition of short-term ultrasound and microwave treatment was followed by formation of dense fibrous capsule around the tumor which assured a longer (3-5 years) recurrence-free survival. Ultrasonic tomography allows to monitor formation of the capsule and is, therefore, useful for assessing treatment outcome, making prognosis and determining time and extent of surgery.

ABSTRACT

The bioelectrical activity of the cerebral cortex, cardiovascular system status, cell-mediated immunity and peripheral blood parameters were studied in 208 cases of head and neck cancer who received local pneumo- and ultra-high frequency hyperthermia in combination with chemoradiation treatment. Local hyperthermia was found to produce no untoward side-effects.

ABSTRACT

Transplacental blastomogenic action of different carcinogenic agents (ethylnitrosourea--ENU), methylnitrosourea--MNU, dimethylbenzanthracene--DMBA, and benz(a)pyrene--BP) was studied in rabbits. As revealed, ENU had the greatest blastomogenic activity and an expressed neurotropic action. Relative tropism to different tissues characteristic of some carcinogenic agents during their action on adult organism was not always expressed in transplacental blastomogenesis, Study of the influence of different modifying factors (organospecific immunization, chronic irritation of the peripheral nerve, injection of the MNU) on the realization of transplacental blastomogenesis showed that their postnatal use stimulated mostly the appearance of the peripheral nerve timours in the offspring rabbits (MNU inhibited the development of tumours).

ABSTRACT

The development of the transplacental blastomogenesis induced by ethylnitrosourea (ENU) was studied in rabbits under the influence of modifying factors (organospecific immunity, chronic irradiation of the peripheral nerve, injection of methylnitrosourea -- MNU). Statistical analysis of the results showed that the postnatal immunization by the antigen prepared from homologous tissue of the peripheral nerve or its chronic irritation always stimulates the frequency of the tumors development. The injection of MNU inhibits the tumorigenesis in the tested animals. According to the data different modifying factors distinctly act upon the transplacental blastomogenesis in rabbits.
