ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study was to investigate clinical effect, the quality of life, and prognosis of patients with hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage treated with aspirin combined with clopidogrel after decompressive craniectomy and removal of intracranial hematoma. PATIENTS AND METHODS: The individual patient data of 120 patients with hypertensive cerebral hemorrhage admitted to Affiliated Hospital of Jining Medical University from January 2015 to July 2016 were retrospectively analyzed. The patients were divided into a research group (62 cases) and a control group (58 cases). The control group was treated with aspirin, while the research group was treated with aspirin combined with clopidogrel. The prevalence of adverse reactions was compared between the two groups. Activity of daily living (ADL) was used to evaluate the quality of life. The amount of hematoma before and after operation was compared between the two groups. The prognosis of the two groups and the risk factors of postoperative rebleeding in patients with cerebral hemorrhage were analyzed. RESULTS: The prevalence of adverse reactions in the research group was significantly higher than that in the control group (p<0.05). The ADL scores of both groups 14 days after the operation were higher than those before the operation (p<0.05), and the ADL scores of the research group were significantly lower than those of the control group 14 d after the operation (p<0.05). The amount of hematoma in the two groups after surgery was lower than that before surgery (p<0.05), and the amount of hematoma in the research group was higher than that in the control group (p<0.05). CONCLUSIONS: The combination of aspirin and clopidogrel will increase the prevalence of adverse reactions and reduce the quality of life of patients after decompressive craniectomy and removal of intracranial hematoma in patients with hypertensive intracerebral hemorrhage. Careful medication is required in clinic.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To help patients with disabilities of the arm and shoulder recover the accuracy and stability of movements, a novel and simple virtual rehabilitation and evaluation system called the Kine-VRES system was developed using Microsoft Kinect. METHODS: First, several movements and virtual tasks were designed to increase the coordination, control and speed of the arm movements. The movements of the patients were then captured using the Kinect sensor, and kinematics-based interaction and real-time feedback were integrated into the system to enhance the motivation and self-confidence of the patient. Finally, a quantitative evaluation method of upper limb movements was provided using the recorded kinematics during hand-to-hand movement. RESULTS: A preliminary study of this rehabilitation system indicates that the shoulder movements of two participants with ataxia became smoother after three weeks of training (one hour per day). CONCLUSION: This case study demonstrated the effectiveness of the designed system, which could be promising for the rehabilitation of patients with upper limb disorders.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Preventing and reducing allograft rejection play a far more important role in limb allotransplantation. We previously found L6H21 could inhibit LPS-induced (lipopolysaccharide LPS) overexpression inflammatory factors in macrophages and specifically targets to MD-2 (myeloid differential protein-2 MD-2) required for TLR4 (Toll-like receptor 4 TLR4) activation and represented an important therapeutic target in inflammatory disorders. Therefore, we evaluated the effect and explored the mechanism of L6H21 in rats' limb allograft model. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The efficacy of L6H21 was evaluated in limb allograft rats and cyclosporine (CY-A) was used as a positive control agent. T-Lymphocyte in blood was analyzed and dendritic cells (DCs) separated from spleens using flow cytometry. ELISA was used to measure serum cytokine levels. Analysis of protein expressions was performed using Western blotting. RESULTS: L6H21 reduced the risk of acute rejection and prolonged survival of limb allograft rats. At 3 d and 5 d post-transplant, the ratio of CD4+/CD8+ was decreased in L6H21 group. L6H21 suppressed the content of IL-1α at 7d, IL-5 and IL-10 at both 3 d and 7 d after transplantation. L6H21 decreased the protein expressions of IRF3, p-IRF3, P38, p-P38 and p-IκBα while increased IκBα expression and decreased the ratio of p-IRF3/ IRF3, p-P38/ P38, p-IκBα/IκBα correspondingly. CONCLUSIONS: L6H21 could reduce the risk of acute rejection and prolong the survival of limb allograft rats through inhibiting the ratio of CD4+/CD8+ in blood and serum cytokine levels and suppressing protein expressions of IRF3, p-IRF3, P38, p-P38 and p-IκBα in DCs. So, it may serve as a potential candidate for the treatment of allograft rejection.

ABSTRACT

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) is one of the major causes of liver inflammation. The aim of this study was to investigate the associations of T-cell immunoglobulin and mucin domain-3 (Tim-3) polymorphisms and the alternate reading frame protein (F protein) with the outcomes of HCV infection. Three single-nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs; rs10053538, rs12186731, and rs13170556) of Tim-3 were genotyped in this study, which included 203 healthy controls, 558 hepatitis C anti-F-positive patients, and 163 hepatitis C anti-F-negative patients. The results revealed that the rs12186731 CT and rs13170556 TC and CC genotypes were significantly less frequent in the anti-F-positive patients [odds ratio (OR) = 0.54, 95 % confidence interval (CI) = 0.35-0.83, p = 0.005; OR = 0.26, 95 % CI = 0.18-0.39, p < 0.001; and OR = 0.19, 95 % CI = 0.10-0.35, p < 0.001, respectively), and the rs13170556 TC genotype was more frequent in the chronic HCV (CHC) patients (OR = 1.70, 95 % CI = 1.20-2.40, p = 0.002). The combined analysis of the rs12186731 CT and rs13170556 TC/CC genotypes revealed a locus-dosage protective effect in the anti-F-positive patients (OR = 0.22, 95 % CI = 0.14-0.33, p trend < 0.001). Stratified analyses revealed that the frequencies of the rs12186731 (CT + TT) genotypes were significantly lower in the older (OR = 0.31, 95 % CI = 0.15-0.65, p = 0.002) and female (OR = 0.30, 95 % CI = 0.17-0.52, p < 0.001) subgroups, and rs13170556 (TC + CC) genotypes exhibited the same effect in all subgroups (all p < 0.001) in the anti-F antibody generations. Moreover, the rs13170556 (TC + CC) genotypes were significantly more frequent in the younger (OR = 1.86, 95 % CI = 1.18-2.94, p = 0.007) and female (OR = 2.38, 95 % CI = 1.48-3.83, p < 0.001) subgroups of CHC patients. These findings suggest that the rs12186731 CT and rs13170556 TC/CC genotypes of Tim-3 provide potential protective effects with the F protein in the outcomes of HCV infection and that these effects are related to sex and age.

ABSTRACT

Hepatitis C virus (HCV) infection is a major cause of chronic liver disease and the varied outcomes of the infection depend on both viral and host factors. We have demonstrated that the HCV alternate reading frame protein (F protein) is related to Th1/Th2 bias which is involved in virus persistence in chronic hepatitis C (CHC) patients. The purpose of this study was to test the hypothesis that genetic variants of TBX21 (T cell specific T-box transcription factor) were associated with the outcomes of HCV infection and F protein generation. Three single nucleotide polymorphisms (SNPs) (rs17250932, rs2074190, rs4794067) in the TBX21 gene were genotyped in a case-control study in a cohort of a high-risk group, including 354 healthy controls and 747 CHC patients (190 anti-F protein antibody seronegative patients and 557 anti-F protein antibody seropositive patients). Results showed that the rs4794067 C allele in the TBX21 promoter was significantly more common in CHC patients (OR = 1.335, 95% CI = 1.058-1.684, P = 0.015), exceptionally in anti-F protein seropositive patients (OR = 1.547, 95% CI = 1.140-2.101, P = 0.005), compared with healthy controls. And the risk effect was also significantly high in patients with HCV 1b genotype and mild fibrosis (P = 0.021, P = 0.010, respectively). Compared with the most frequent haplotype TAT, haplotype analysis showed that the distribution of TAC was significantly different between the chronic HCV carrier group and the healthy group, and so was the anti-F antibody seronegativity group and the anti-F antibody seronegativity group (all P < 0.001). Our results suggested that TBX21 variants may be involved in the etiology of this disease.

ABSTRACT

The mass and width of the lowest-lying S-wave spin singlet charmonium state, the η(c), are measured using a data sample of 1.06×10(8) ψ(3686) decays collected with the BESIII detector at the BEPCII storage ring. We use a model that incorporates full interference between the signal reaction, ψ(3686)→γη(c), and a nonresonant radiative background to describe the line shape of the η(c) successfully. We measure the η(c) mass to be 2984.3±0.6±0.6 MeV/c(2) and the total width to be 32.0±1.2±1.0 MeV, where the first errors are statistical and the second are systematic.

ABSTRACT

The decays J/ψ → γ π+ π- π0 and J/ψ → γ π0 π0 π0 are analyzed using a sample of 225×10(6) J/ψ events collected with the BESIII detector. The decay of η(1405) → f(0)(980)π0 with a large isospin violation is observed for the first time. The width of the f(0)(980) observed in the dipion mass spectra is anomalously narrower than the world average. Decay rates for three-pion decays of the η' are also measured precisely.

ABSTRACT

A partial wave analysis of the pp¯ mass-threshold enhancement in the reaction J/ψ→γpp¯ is used to determine its J(PC) quantum numbers to be 0(-+), its peak mass to be below threshold at M=1832(-5)(+19)(stat)(-17)(+18)(syst)±19(model) MeV/c(2), and its total width to be Γ<76 MeV/c(2) at the 90% C.L. The product of branching ratios is measured to be BR[J/ψ→γX(pp¯)]BR[X(pp¯)→pp¯]=[9.0(-1.1)(+0.4)(stat)(-5.0)(+1.5)(syst)±2.3(model)]×10(-5). A similar analysis performed on ψ(3686)→γpp¯ decays shows, for the first time, the presence of a corresponding enhancement with a production rate relative to that for J/ψ decays of R=[5.08(-0.45)(+0.71)(stat)(-3.58)(+0.67)(syst)±0.12(model)]%.

ABSTRACT

Previous studies have demonstrated that electrical stimulation (ES) enhances axonal regeneration following central and peripheral nerve injury. However, the effect of ES on peripheral remyelination after nerve damage has been investigated less, and the mechanism underlying its action remains unclear. In the present study, neuron/Schwann cell (SC) co-cultures in vitro and crush-injured sciatic nerves in rats were subjected to 1 h of continuous ES (20 Hz, 100 micros, 3 V). Electron microscopy and nerve morphometry were performed to investigate the extent of regenerated nerve myelination. The expression profiles of P0, Par-3 and brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF) in vitro and in vivo were examined by western blotting. We reported that 20 Hz ES increased the number of regenerated and myelinated axons at 4 and 8 weeks after injury. P0 level in the ES-treated groups, as well as myelin sheath thickness, were enhanced compared with the controls. The earlier peak Par-3 in the ES-treated groups indicated earlier initiation of SC myelination. Moreover, the similar results were achieved in the cell co-culture. Additionally, brief ES significantly elevated BDNF expression in co-cultured cells and nerve tissues. In conclusion, ES of the site of nerve injury potentiates axonal regrowth and myelin maturation during peripheral nerve regeneration. Further, the therapeutic actions of ES on myelination that is mediated via enhanced BDNF signals, which driving the promyelination effect on SCs at the onset of myelination.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: To provide a scientific basis for the introduction and harvest of T. farfara in Beijing. METHOD: Random sampling in late growing period. RESULT: T. farfara reached the peak of vegetation growth in early September and concurrently began its reproductive growth. During this period its bud and rhizome began to form and develop and kept growing until the period of freezing weather. CONCLUSION: There are two optimum the times for reaping T. farara bud: one is around the fifteenth day before the period of freezing weather, and the other is around the tenth day after the thawing season in the next year.

ABSTRACT

OBJECTIVE: Exploring the best seed storage method for Trollius chinensis. METHOD: Different temperatures were applied to the seed storage in wet sand and dry sand, and the embryo-endosperm ratio and germination rate were inspected. RESULT: The dormancy of T. chinensis seeds could only be broken in lower temperatures. The newly collected seeds set out to germinate after 75 days of storage at 5-6 degrees C when the embryo-endosperm ratio reached 47%, and the time of seed germination varied with the length of storage time before low-temperature treatment. CONCLUSION: The best storage method for the seed of T. chinensis is keeping it in dry for 6-8 months with an additional 1 month of low-temperature treatment to follow.
